Is Honor a virtue worth having?

After 5 years of playing UO, I just NOW read about the virtue system... and I thought that was pretty cool. But... I started working on Honor yesterday, and got a little discouraged at how slowly it raises. What I'm wondering is if when I "embrace my honor" if it uses up all the honor points for that one time that I use it... and then I have to start building it back up again? Or does it stay active continuously?
I noticed that it would probably be easier to gain honor points after I've embraced my honor than before-hand, since I have very little time to pull up and target the monster before it's already on me and I've hit it once already.
If anyone has been using the Honor virtue though, I would love to know how well it works, and if it continues to work once you get to the first level, even after you've logged out and back in.
