    I hate the black metal growl, but the music is really good though.

    The more I listen to their shit, the more I like it. Their music is sublime, but ffs I just can't get over this black metal lyricism. It's easier to stomach than say, Crade of Filth *shiver*, but when they pull out the enchanting singing along with the melody, it's amazing. Like this one;

    You'll just have to forgive me if I'm not into gremlins on the mic. They all sound like the broad from Arch Enemy, and her excuse is that she's a broad.

    As for vocals, I dig the more traditional death/speed metal styles, and then you get a guy like Phil Anselmo who can growl, scream and hit notes that put Rob Halford on the spot. People say he's overrated, but he's just a dick thats full of himself... and with good reason.

    These are definitely in descending order of awesomeness, but I am impressed nonetheless.

    Man I'm deeply surprised to find people enjoying erudite music here. Agalloch is a fantastic band that simply can't be classified within common genres. If I had to apply genres to it, it would neo folk avant garde progressive melodic black metal. They perfectly combine distorted guitar riffs with clean melodies. I haven't written the following, but it perfectly fits agalloch :

    "It is metal, yet not metal. It is sinister yet benign. Abrasive yet sinuous. Simple yet complex. Ugly and beautiful at the same time. It is as if God and Satan put aside their differences for just a brief celestial moment, sat down in the crisp forests of the American northwest, and made an album together."

    There are so many opposites within one song, yet it all perfectly plays off it each, creating a totally unique sound that is in perfect harmony.

    I know Opeth has been posted before, but make sure you check out the album Damnation... all the beauty, yet no growls! (for those that don't like them).

    One of my favorite albums ever and I listen to metal a lot less than I used to.

    sidenote: if you do like heavier vocals and a little faster pace, check out Dark Tranquility as well (exposures is a good album).

    ...man you guys are bringing back memories, been out of the 'game' for years (5+).
