This was terrible news to hear first thing in the morning (or any time, for that matter).  What a precious invaluable gift to those he loved, and what a sad loss for the world that a person with such heart and character be taken. Peace, light, and love to the family.

Everyone reacts different to certain situations, not sure if your asking a serious question or trying to be funny but honestly if you were in that situation or anyone else sometimes you dont have 2 seconds to spare.  Apparently with this sad accident it seemed to happen very sudden, so his decision was to save the ones he loved.  Its a very sad story but its also good to reflect on whats important in life.  Whenever you have a situation that you consider life changing, you look at life totally different then others.  With myself and others on these forums there has been situations that changed our way of thinking and outlooks about life in general.  I just hope ppl look at this in a positive light and use this story to help with making the right decisions in the future.  RIP and condolences to his family.

Indeed a honest to goodness true hero that put others first.

However, when is this country going to do something and find the means to remove the filth that plagues our roads, in order that decent, caring, loving people like Brian can live?

    Your fail comment, failed.

What a very, very sad incident.  My heartfelt condolences to the family.

I work in a residential home where a local woman lives who was hit by a drunk driver about 18 years ago and left brain damaged and paralyzed.  I firmly believe that people who cause accidents like this whilst under the influence, or indeed simply driving recklessly, should have as part of their sentence an order to visit any victim(s) who survive once a month for the rest of the perpetrator's sentence.  They should also have to face the surviving family members (if the family chooses this) and take full responsibility for the effect of their actions on other people's lives.

He was on Whidbey Island in WA state, and  I've driven the same road he was on. Looking at the general location given by the news stories about the crash, trying to direct the car off the road would have entailed a choice between crashing into a tree (potentially killing his wife and unborn child) or into a rock wall where they cut the road into a hill (likewise). I can absolutely see why he wouldn't take the risk with the lives of his wife and child.

Rest in peace, Brian Wood. This situation makes me so sad for his wife and family.

What a sacrifice to do what he did in the final seconds of his life.

This is a horrid tragedy. I just don't see how I could ever live without my little one, much less have to forgo being a part of their life as they grown. I truly mourn for this family's tragic loss and I'm proud of the soon-to-be-dad for being so brave in his final moments. We all play the games listed on this site now-and-again to play the part of a hero and feel a hint of that form of accomplishment; but this Dad will know it, and all of its glory, for all eternity. When this family finally does meet again, as time will always bring about, no less than a hero's welcome will be had.

In any event, this is murder and those responsible should be punished accordingly. One could only hope that the offenders are sent to prison to live out the rest of their lives knowing what a truly precious thing they've destroyed out of selfish ignorance.

May God truly bless this little family and give poor, unfortunate Dad a bit of the peace he genuinely deserves.
