Looks like the writer isn't a big specialist in MMOs. What does it mean "dynamic gameplay"? In WoW, for example, gameplay is very dynamic and good moving and positioning is everything. And boss fights are very sophisticated. Does this mean TERA is like WoW? Man, if you know nothing of games, don't write about them...
WoW's combat is about as dynamic as a three toed sloth.
Having played WoW and having tried Tera: Tera has dynamic combat, WoW does not.

To a degree this is correct. Dynamic just means more stuff in short. Sure Terras combat seems very dynamic from the stand point that you can miss becuase the other person moved, etc. But additionally, wows combat is Vastly more dynamic in the number of abilities and things a single class can do. Heal, melee dps, nuke and cc all in one spec. That is being dynamic also.
Becuase we are used to this we don't often recognize that is part of being dynamic, but it is.
As for tiwtch based movement and combat systems go terra's combat is vastly more dynamic, as for combat abilities not so much.
This beign said i preffer terras more.

WoWs combat often boils down to 5-6 combat buttons pushed in specific order where the only way you miss is if the luck roll works against you. Nothing anyone can ever say will change my view of WoW combat. I've been there, I've used it, it's as boring as watching paint dry.
Tera uses typically 5-6 combat moves/spells/abilities along with actually having to aim/lead your target along with having to constantly position/chase/move to get the hits in or get out of the way of incoming attacks.

Both styles are dynamic and it fully depends on the person playing the <insert game> and what he is expecting out of the game. Tera looks to be going with the minimalist approach as far as skills & CC's so the player can focus more on the action and less on skill bar management. All this means is more choice for the community so they can better choose what game fits there play style.
Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...

To summarize: TERA requires you to look more at your screen and less at your keyboard.
Here's my view on it. You move around in 3rd person view with WASD keys and you execute your main attacks with the mouse buttons, so this feels more like a hack and slash game, albeit the pacing was comparatively moderate (MMORPG players should be able to cope with it, but I think it's quite slow if you expect fast paced hack and slash style gaming, but that could be different with other classes). To hit something, you must be in range and you must face the creature. Aiming precisely like in a shooter wasn't that nessessary, just facing the creature and being in range. The attacks I had were more AOE or cone type, so that helped as well. The big monsters do some kind of wind-up animation so you have a good idea when you need to hit the C-Key to block (or dodge), at least in the beginning this was quite easy.
I only had like 2 skills at my disposal, which was ok for this type of gaming. I guess it would break when it also required you to play piano on your number keys. With positioning and facing the target you have enough to do. Overall, the combat was fun. I don't know if it still is after some weeks or months, but it did the job well for the time being.
The characters reminded me of AION. I saw that there are also faces that look more battle hardened and western-compatible, and not just boys. If you expect dark and gritty fantasy, this isn't the place for you. It's very much the opposite side of Warhammer. It looked rather colorful with some typical asian color choices, a tad more western than AION as well.
No friendly fire eh. The article looked good to read. But then I followed a link to that other review that had some gameplay video, and it was an instant "blah". Gigantic swords spinning 20 yards, slashing through your friends but not hitting any, the amount of shiny shit (weapon trails, moves, buffs, whatever) puts WoW to shame. Looks cheap as fuck. No thanks.
What bothers me from the article, is that the healer had a good work trying to keep the group all alive.
So I'm supposing a good balanced group is going to be required for a specific quests or bosses. Like a tank, a healer, a dps, a buffing, a de-buffing, and a crowd-control. We all know dps or ranged class are more popular, so finding a balanced group is going to be a challenge at some time. I hate these spams "Looking for a healer to take boss XYZ". Well, if we are a group of 3 tanks and 3 ranged dps, then so be it. But unfortunatelly the game often asks for something else.
holy shit, without even knowing a thing about this game I was going to say,
a) It kind of looks like Aion but not as good (Aion have great skills and a very in depth PvP system)
b) it looks like its going to be another grind fest with 0% imagination and or originality.
If this game doesn't suck please get back to me I'd love to hear more......experienced gamers need only reply for you are likely to get a "Sarcastic Slap" for wasting my time...........well you know how it goes gamers.....you just want false advertising to exist just for a second because you're so angry at it that you know in that one second you could kill it dead! 1up Mental Rage
From the amount of crap I've read over the years my mental rage meter has built up so high it's a wonder I've not become a dragon mage.
my most recent quarrel was with Aion, great game, but where is the LORE? Virtually storyless and it comes so close to squashing WoW, give it only 3 years worth of expansions to get over the hype of killing ghosts, trees and lizards, maybe add some more ogres+zombies and a bunch of new dungeons and merge the cleric+chanter into one class then this game wudda had it all.
anyone else feel chanter got it worst of all in Aion? not that i care screw them I was a cleric...and with the end game gear.........it wasn't so hard to be a nuisance to kill
meh, tera will not be mainstream popular due to all the work required
people want a casual mmorpg
after being at work all day, dealing with kids, bills, etc most do not want a game that requires alot of extra work, they want the casual wow mechanics because games shouldn't be work, they should be an entertaining escape
Do I go onto the Farmville forums and complain that it is too casual and I am not dealing with kids, bills etc? No.
So if putting some time in for you is an issue go and find a game where logging on for ten minutes gives you a level. Amazingly we do not all want what you want.
"After playing a while, I do think the console controller may be the way to go"
After seeing that quote I have to wonder about how much gaming Joe has done. Anyone with any sort of knowledge about gaming knows that mouse/keyboard is so much better than a console controller, there is just no contest there at all. I would think that for the dynamic combat, it would be even more so.
The dynamic combat is interesting, just wish their character models were not so ridiculous looking. I hope for everyone that this game is as good as you are hoping for. Be nice to have another option for a game to play.
Ah yeah ? Try to play FFXIV with a mouse/keyboard and then with a controler and u'll see what's better. Same goes with FIFA, DIRT and whatever console port exists for PC. Your assertion is simply put, ridiculously wrong.
If a game is designed with a focus towards consoles, then a controler makes much more sense.
You're a Hardcore Survivor!
You not only survived the zombie apocalypse, but did it with style! Your mastery of zombie knowledge, survival tactics, and weaponry is nearly unmatched. Congratulations, for you are hardcore!

Given the choice i will always use a mouse/keyboard setup for a shooter,(aside from halo but thats different). But also given the choice to play a hack and slash, like god of war or the like, i would rather wlit my wrists than play with a keyboard. this game seems to be more in teh hack and slash category rather than the shooter one, therefore i think there is merit to his console controller comment. I tried both mouse/keyboard and controller for fallout 3, and found the controller much more advantageous for moving around and multitasking the character.

BTW combat like this is nothing new, UO had it back in 97 and AC1 soon after.
I do like their combat style and hope the rest of the game is as good.
I've had the chance to play it, too.

the only thing i dont like about this game that in pvp you fight with your own race. apart from that it looks very nice.
