How do you rate FFXIV's graphics compared to other MMO's?

From the screenshots and videos I've seen, SE manages to create some stunning vistas and sceneries in FFXIV, character and environment graphics equal or even surpass those of most other MMO's, certainly the cartoony/stylised ones.

Since preferences and taste in graphics style is subjective, how'd you rate FFXIV graphics yourself when compared to those of the other current MMO's?

Here's my top 5:

1. AoC: although some might not prefer the realistic, less toony-colorful graphics of AoC, it's the most awe inspiring I've seen at the moment. One only has to walk in Khitai's regions on DX10 setting to become awestruck. Doubtless AoC will be surpassed in my list as MMO's as GW2, TSW and WoD arrive, but for now it's my no 1.

2. FFXIV: I can only judge by the many screenshots and videos I've seen, but SE seems to have managed to build a wonderful, atmospheric world with graphics easily surpassing the cartoony, stylised graphics of other MMO's and even more recent ones as Aion. It'll be a treat to wander around in its many regions.

3. Aion: while the environment graphics may vary in quality, the character graphics and animations are without a doubt some of the most exquisitely detailed I've seen so far, overall making Aion a feast for the eyes. That is, if you can stomach the sweet, sugary graphics style.

4. GW: this is a personal favorite of mine, even though the game is 5+ years old already, I can still be moved by some sights and the artistic style used in GW. I'm definitely looking forward to GW2, ANet has in my opinion the best overall art design team around of all the MMO companies.

5. LotrO/WoW: a shared spot, both MMO's have the cartoony/stylised look in common, where WoW shines in making the best of the graphical style choice by its richness and variety in design, LotrO has the majestic vistas of its landscapes that very effectively manage to make the impression of a truly vast, wondrous Middle Earth.

Special mention: Champions Online. While in the end it falls outside my top 5 list, I admire the distinctly different graphics style that CO promotes, in environment and character design. It has given it a unique own look for its world.

I thought that FFXIV graphics were very nice.  Lots of detail and the environments look nice.

Course not being able to jump and run around freely kinda hurts the feel of it and I didn't like the combat animations.  But the animations and effects might improve some for release.

I'm very impressed with the graphics of FFXIV and have found myself awed that this quality of graphics is finally making it to the MMOs.  My comp specs are core2duo & 8800GT which is barely medium specs anymore.  I did upgrade to gtx460 and its not that much of a difference as my bottleneck is cpu now.  New I7-980e, rampage III mb, dominator GT triple channel memory, Corsair 1200w psu and SSD pieces will be here in 2 days so can't wait to max it out (and tera, GW2, when they come out).

    1. ) FFXIV (some compaints of repetitive landscaping although I've played a lot and never noticed )

    2. ) AoC

    3. ) LoTRO (although I think expansions arent the quality as the release)

    4. ) AION from screenshots... never played so could be placed above Lotro or AoC.  screenshots seem very nice tho.

    5. ) everything here down imo is separated by a big margin.

Of course, my opinion and graphics can be debated till the end of time.

    I'm running an ATI Radeon HD 5870, 6GB of DDR3 and an i7 920.

Basing my list on just graphics alone, no gameplay, no lack of jumping, etc.

    1. FFXIV

    2. AoC

    3. LotRO

    4. Aion

    5. GW

    6., 7., 8., etc. etc.

i thought the graphics in FF actually surpassed conan.....

Until i left a city.  The cities are cool, no doubt.  the general graphics look cool.  But the actual environments are terrible.  Boring lifeless world, no interesting landmarks etc.  Conan beats FF hands down as there's tons of cool stuff to see and the terrain doesn't repeat endlessly.

Out of the ones you've listed, i haven't played AION so i can't say.

    1.  AOC

    2.  LOTRO

    3.  Guild wars

    4.  FFxiv

FFXIV would be number 2 if it weren't for the boring repetitive world.

2.)  AoC (been awhle since I logged on, and have never played the new expansion, but I dont remember it looking quite as good as FFXIV, but it may)

    3.)  Aion

    4.)  LotRO

5.)  DAoC (I just think DAoC should be on every list untill Mythic releases a part 2)

AoC's Khitai looks great and personally I think better than the other regions - although Cimmeria is still the most atmospheric due to its stellar music themes. I've seen FFXIV screenshots that look without a doubt some of the best I've seen from ingame screenshots of any MMO - so I can understand the high hardware requirements, they certainly didn't go for cartoony/'stylised', FFXIV is among the best looking MMO's currently around (if not the best?).

But I'd have to play it and look around for myself to know if FFXIV can beat AoC in this area.
