Originally posted by Kaocan You really think with all these classes everyone out there is just going to be able to jump from one setup to the next 'right away'?? I'm thinking they are going to be out leveling classes for weeks/months once they realize thier limited lateral advancement has them gimped.
They are going to take the fastest, easiest route to Pwndom. Especially when they could be playing other PvPvE games more suited for PvP purposes.
Your absolutely right, and exactly what I was pointing out. The hardcore PvP player is NOT going to spend the time and effort to level anythign but the bare minimum classes they think they need to be the top. That I agree with comepletly. What happens though when they all start getting their ass handed to them by the poeple willing to do the lateral leveling? They will find out how gimp they really are by trying to rush to the top. This games design will not favor them at all, they will end up hating it because it will require more work on the PvE side than they will be willing to put in.
I'm guessing that after the typical PvPer joins, pays for two months and still doesn't have two jobs over 20 while getting smoked by fulltime "carebear" PvEers, it's gonna be funny time on the forums.
I guess we are going back to Napoleon times without the cannons... eveyone in a row lets do some PvP!!! I cant imagine someone willing to do PvP in those conditions. Lag and slow is all i can think about. The challenge in this Pvp will be to be able to do something ... at all.
Is anyone else viewing this as a desprate move before release day to sway those who are on the fence about buying this game? or should I just eat more paste and be on my way...
Eeven as I uy the CE and will play the game I have the feel in the current state the PvP would have a kind of turnbased strategy game. Like you make your attack and your eneemy and than you wait.
Aside of thata s someone stated before will a good PvP charakter most likely need a way to much effort in PvE to be overstrong in PvP. Let us be honest most PvP people that are strong PvP focused do this to beat people.
Just imagine the worst case the super deadly skill you need would be in one of the crafter jobs.
You guys seem to be blind to the fact that the UI lag is going to ruin the game.
imagine being on a boss and everyone trying to coordinate with multi second delays, didnt get that heal? too bad i hit the button when i was supposed to.
i've tried level 12 3 man quests and its hard enough to coordinate any kind of attack with major delays.
In beta, they don't do certain things until it's over. One of them is called optimizing the performance.
See, right now in beta-weta, there's all these little fancy things busily taking down all this tiny, teeny weeny data (metrics) for some really smart guys to look at. Then when they are done, they will turn those things off and the game will run smoother. It's like... magic!
Then, they sprucey woosy the game up, then thay put ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL that really complicated stuff on some diskie whiskies and make ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL these copy woppies (but not on floppies). Then they sent it to everybody in the world who wants one and they play it.
When those people play it, it's called launchy wonchy. That's when the people fighting bossey wossies don't have to imagine because they are actually playing it then.
You're my hero!!

Desperate move? No.
Good for PR, sure.
But it was only a very minor part of a very long press release or statement. I think some of you people need to wake up and learn a bit about real life and business. The game hasn't been released yet so talking about desperation is stupid.
Desperation is if in a year or two they have not recovered their development costs. Looking at previous FF titles that's extremely unlikely to happen no matter what people say on this forum.
Besides, I doubt this will be "normal" PVP as we know it, and as others have mentioned don't expect special rewards, balanced classes etc. It's a PVE game.

Accept that its not for you. But the idea that its ur place to convince others not to like it is pathetic.
I know its not for me, but i'm stuck trying to see how someone rationalizes paying full price for something that is clearly sub standard. part is because mmos are notoriously buggy, and generally crappy at release, that should be the exception not the rule. especially with deep pockets.
It just seems very ordinary to me so i dont see where you are coming from when you say its got all this or will have. it just doesnt.
And considering when i run it the screen just goes black now for no reason, my complaints are well founded.
You also seem stuck on not understanding that your opinion is not absolute, that others do not have to agree with you, and that not agreeing with you doesn't make them wrong.
As was explained.. UI lag is something SE has acknowledged and is working to improve. Software mouse is of course laggy and they have already acknowledged hardware mouse will be in the game.. That's an improvement right there. As was also mentioned, during beta, there is debug code running that tracks pretty much every single thing you do and records it... this requires extra cycles to do which causes the game to be less responsive overall. Debug mode is turned off for retail release.
And of course, they continue to tweak performance even after the game launches.
Your entire argument rests on an assumption that the way the game is now is the way it will always be... and that's where you go off track.

I think anyone deciding to purchase and play FFXIV thinking it's going to be a core PvP game, or expecting a major PvP side to it, is in for profound disappointment....
SE's just opened a can of worms with this announcement. So far, in all the cries of "woot!" and "it's on, carebears!!!" from the PvP'ers who are, no doubt, relishing the thought of ganking other players while they're in the middle of a levequest, I think I've seen one person who has actually read into it enough to realize that SE PvP is very compartamentalized and is not going to be open "freedom to attack anyone, anywhere".
I suppose I could get the popcorn ready and be prepared to enjoy the inevitable raging once they realize they're not going to be ganking newbies outside their starting cities.
