TERA: Class Lance is just find, here is why...

slim26slim26 Member UncommonPosts: 645

Because of the extreme stopping power of a thrusting spear, it quickly became a popular weapon of footmen in the Late Middle Ages. These eventually led to the rise of the longest type of spears ever! the pike. Ironically, this adaptation of the cavalry lance to infantry use was largely tasked with stopping "lance-armed cavalry charges " while on foot. During the 15th, 16th and 17th centuries, these weapons, both mounted and unmounted, were so effective that lancers and pike men not only became a staple of every Western army, but also became highly sought-after mercenaries. BINGO!! STFU about the Lancer class aight.... LMAO

The pike was useless as a ground-based weapon unless you planted it firmly to the ground and had a wall of them. One piker alone was pretty ineffectual. It's no big effort to knock a single pike out of the way and get within it's range, rendering it useless.

I'd like to say "nice try", but I'm trying to build a rep here as someone who's honest.

    Oderint, dum metuant.

The footmans lance was just a modified spear, not the ridiculous monstrosity in TERA.  Hey if that is something you like, have fun, but most of us will really be laughing at how silly that weapon looks, most certainly the most non heroic thing I have seen in a MMO lately.

It's a fantasy video game, I mean they have fireballs and icebolts and dragons and other stuff. No need to justify the weapon. In modern day physics it would be impossible to wield that weapon as a 1h weapon as it is shown in the game. But as I said before, it's just a game.

Most of us are already laughing at you for the fact that you can't bear with a...fantasy game. There are such things as fireballs, iceballs, player earthquakes, monstrous jumps. lions with wings and eagle heads, but somehow you still can't stand a big lance on foot. I have to say this a fantasy game, which most probably have little to do with humans lance-o-phobic.

oh hey look, this same lame argument seen in all asian mmo forums.  the lances look stupid, how about YOU deal with that.

Dunno what you are talking about, they look wonderful with perfect textures and very good detail....

Oh, if you mean unrealistic, yeah, they probably are because they are meant to be anyway...because...once again, it's a fantasy game.

    Thanks for playing mate.

Not to get involved really, but I just wanna state that nothing turns me off to a game quicker than unrealistic weapon scale...except dwarfs. It's a matter of personal taste, not a personal attack. I find a game that mimics a "sense of" reality much more enjoyable than one that doesn't even bother with it. Granted there is nothing real about blasters, spaceships or flying horses, but I can accept them as a part of the story much more than monstrously large swords.

I enjoy from real to totally ridiculous, gameplay can trump all.

Just was going to say the same thing someone already pointed out.  You didn't charge into battle with a pike if you were alone, that was meant for formation fighting.  There is a big difference between warriors and soldiers and thus a difference in the types of weaponry they used.  Pikes were definitely for soldiers who were meant to fight using teamwork as opposed to a warrior charging forward with a sword, axe or whatever else who was out for individual glory.

Ok I am on a tangent, lol, nm.
