Cannot get past character creation
Usually I get a direct x error when logging into the game, but sometimes I come as far as to the character creation. I get a picture of 4-5 guys standing around, with the guy to left highlighted with a glowing circle underneath. I can click enter, then everyone disappears except the highlighted ones, then then the other appears after a while. I'm pretty certain something is missing, like some text etc.
Tried changing drivers, reinstalling the game. Nothing works. Anyone? I can't seem to find the official forum either, probably blind.

I haven't heard of this problem... Did you perhaps alter something with your game on accident? Like download a mod or something incorrectly?
If that's not it are you in windowed mode or fullscreen?
Sometimes the game gets tempermental if you have or had another program going and shut it down like fraps. Or if you turn on fraps after starting, that will cause crashes. If you tab out when in fullscreen it crashes as well.
Your problem however doesn't SOUND related to any of these however, but I'd check to make sure.
Did you completely exit the game and try again? If not then try posting about it on a FFXIV centric site, I'm sure someone would figure out how to fix it.

And no, I don't want your flippin' carrot. If you can't do that give me back my youth and keep the change. Why don't you try chasing your own damn carrot for a change? I'll gladly hold the stick.
You have my sympathies, it sucks to be the 1 guy out of 10,000 who has an obscue hardware/software issue like this that stops them from accessing a hot new game.
Sounds like some kind of missing DirectX functionality on your machine. My recommended course of action, in order from least ot most disruptive:
Try setting your FFXIV client settings lower via the Final Fantasy XIV config program.
Uninstall and reinstall the latest official video card drivers, that might address the missing functionality or restore lost functionality.
Reinstall DirectX (cannot be uninstalled). This, too, may address missing functionality.
Reinstall teh FFXIV client. It's possible your installation was corrupted somehow.
If all else fails, contact Square-Enix tech support, perhaps you've got some unusual component they've heard about and have a workaround for.
Now, I have to ask, does your card support DirectX 9? I know it sounds crazy, but once in a while people come on and think they can run a 2010 MMO with a 10-15 year-old card. It just doesn't work that way.
Yeah its a geforce 270. I should probably have written my spec. Still no luck, really to bad, haven't been stuck on a mmorpg in a while, and I wanted to get a fresh start on a new game, and this game seems appealing. Before I would buy every new mmorpg out there, lately there has been to many I did not like so I always try to get my hand on a beta first.
