Hello, i have never played a FF game before but am considering playing this one but have a couple questions?
1. How fast is the combat speed compared to lets say WAR, Lotro, AOC, or Aion?
2. Everybody says a gamepad is much better but i havent used one since i was a kid, could somebody recommend me one to buy since i am clueless on this?
3. How is customization in the game so far from what you have seen in beta as in diffrerent armors, dyes, etc?
Thanks

1) its really hard to comment on combat speed since were such a low level, I can tell you at around level 10 its kind of slow, It picks up as you get more skills.
2) Any usb gamepad will do I just use the 360 controller. I dont know a better gamepad than that. maybe a ps2 usb controller? I know I had bad luck with buttons wearing out on the logitec and mad catz controllers on ffxi.
3) Its pretty good, but if you like the flamboyant armor sets like thats in Aion and such, your not going to find it here.
Waiting for:EQ-Next, ArcheAge (not so much anymore)

I'd say roughly as fast. They tried to make it more visceral by having you queue up attacks manualy one at a time, and perhaps each attack you queue would long a combination of 2 or 3 attacks in case, but there's a considerable pause between what you queue. All MMORPGs are quasi-turn based, but you can really feel it here.
Your best bet is probably an XBox 360 controller, as those are so common that's most likely to be the one Square-Enix developed for. However, I've found the configuration program to be very robust... really, any gamepad with two analog sticks and a D-pad should do.
The physical features of your character have been attracting some ire because there's not all that much (at least in beta). However, the customization of your appearance based on what you equip is unprecedented versus any other MMORPG I know of. You can actually see the individual jewelery you wear on your character! What's more, apparently there's a considerable customization of gear when it is crafted.
1. Based on what I have observed, and I may be wrong, It depends on the class. Some classes are faster than others. For example a pugilist is faster than a marauder but the marauder does more damage per hit, so they kind of balance each other out.
Also, there is a stamina gauge and when you run out of stamina, you have to wait until it regenerates before you can use normal attacks. While you have ample stamina, you can pretty much spam certain abilities. Some abilities are on a cooldown though. The only abilities that you queue up are the more powerful weapon abilities.
2. The gamepad is indeed better than the software mouse. However, the hardware mouse (which you can enable with WindowerXIV) is much better than the gamepad. At least in my opinion. SE is going to be adding hardware mouse support in the near future, so think of this as a temp fix.
3. There are a lot of different armor pieces. However, being that most people are around level 10 or so, there is only so many options available. I would hazard a guess that at max level, players are going to look very different.
I use the PS3 sixaxis which is really handy cuz it's bluetooth. If you already have one and have the patience and the knowhow to set it up, it's well worth it.
Also, don't expect to get a ton of armor early on in the game. yeah, there will be a set or two available from vendors, but the real armors will come from the actual crafter players. So until the crafters get their stuff set up and start mass producing, don't expect to get any good gear.
