I'm gonna take a guess to, the way I see it is.

Right of the warrior looks to be Charr, Asura.

Left of the Warrior looks to be Norn, Sylvari.

as for professions I'm guessing the four race's are going to show off NEW professions instead of old ones which to me would be ok because GW 2 is a whole new game and I for one would like to try out some new professions, It would be great to have something fresh and new instead of playing the same old thing over an over again.

Maybe that'll be a new profession too? Golemancer or Summoner could be.

Anybody has any idea if the main character in the book represents one of the classes? (maybe I should look it up on GW2Guru to see if that question has been mentioned there too in the book discussions)

Golemancer is rather out of equation because of lore. Having Golemancer as one of the professions makes only sense if there would be racial restriction (Golemancer = Asura)

Although in 'Ghost of Ascalon' there is a mention of 3 different types of magic: ele, necro and mesmer-ish. It's different from GW1 where you had 4 types of magic: destruction(ele), aggression(necro), preservation(monk), and denial(mesmer). So it seems that monk spells will not make a return and one of the unannounced professions is supposed to be catered to the people who played monk will not be spellcaster but rather use skills in a fashion that paragons do (shouts, chants, echos).

Did Ghosts really say something about there only being three types of magic? I cant say that I personally remember that although my memory is hardly perfect. As for Golemancer, no we aren't going to see that as a playable class. As the person above me said its limited to the Asura. I cant really see them sharing it with other races, or even some of them, like Sylvari, being too interested in it in the first place. But I believe there was a post somewhere suggesting a racial elite skill would be calling down a suit of golem battle armor or something like that to beat up on your opponents. So you could potentially work that into an Asura's personal background if you were so inclined.

Duelist could be cool actually. But no as a few people have said I think that a special utility class is more likely than just "Gunner". Something like Engineer might be able to make clear use of guns but also have some fun new things that other classes wouldn't be able to encroach on as easily.

And just a note... Although Warriors can use Rifles, they cannot use Pistols nor can Ranger's use any type of gun weaponry. I think the idea behind Ranger is they are more the forester type. Bit more natural, old school, with of course support from their pet of choice. So a gun based class would probably be a bit more heavy hitting in terms of base damage but probably slower; especially since in the videos most guns seem to be slow firing. The clip with two Charr firing one after the other comes to mind. So yes they could probably change it if they wanted to but Ranger isn't going to be a dedicated gun class they way they've started in on it.

First off... NO Paladin. Paladin is not a word Anet would use to describe one of their characters. It doesn't fit the lore at all. While the mechanics might be similar to some other game's pallys, the GW2 version will be more versatile than just a a tank with heals.

Second, I remember reading a statement from Anet that engineer isn't the name of the gunner class. (will try to find link later)

So the list of the final four classes in my mind will be:

    -Tactician--the new gunner class

-Arcanist--mesmer mechanics, able to use pistols

    -Vagabond--assassin/dervish hybrid

-Acolyte--the new heavy armor class (I'm hoping for it to be able to fight barehanded/ with a staff in melee)

I like this. And I like the names too. Kudos. image

I definitely agree with the fact that there is going to be a gun specialist. I mean, there are no classes announced that can use pistols yet. I can see this Gunner class and some sort of Scholarly class using them. This scholar class would be like an evolution of the Mesmer. A mixture of pistol and fencing combat with psychological and illusionary magic mixed together. I think a good name for this one would be the Duelist, as Mesmers had a fashion sense that really reminded me of Duelists, and the psychological and illusionary magic makes sense in the realm of pistols and fencing.

The Duelist could choose to dual wield pistols, or swords, or mix and match them, pistol in offhand, sword main hand, or sword offhand, pistol main hand, granting different skill combos. I bet the Duelist would even be able to wield a rifle for a long ranged option. Just ideas, may not even happen. Looking forward to being surprised!

What is this "whack", you say? Check out the links!

    rangers DO NOT USE GUNS...

warrior can use the bow or the gun and are not bad with it, think of them as well rounded with physical weapons.

i could see duelist, with a lager use of his gun of course

But on the note for why I actually decided to post I wanted to take a guess at how they were going to reveal the classes. I personally am betting that any new classes will get revealed clossest to launch. So if we get a Theif/Assassin/Rogue/Whatever it and the Mesmer/Duelist/blah will be revealed before something like the lie of an Engineer or the what have you. I certainly know I'd prefer it that way, I dont want to be teased with the idea of a new class with new mechanics to play with for any longer than is absolutely necessary.

Do they plan to release a new profession soon? It's been a long time since the necromancer :/

I think the mesmer and the assassin probably going to stick.

Heavy - the paladin like class, just armor and magic it could be more of an anti-paladin but you get the point

Light - Mesmer I feel like this is one of GW defining classes, It was the only original GW class to have a non-generic name. It might be reworked completely but I bet the name will stick. I also think they will use pistols

Medium - I believe there will definatly be a class based on sword and pistol this could be a slightly reworked assassin, classes have alot of different weapons in this game only logical that assassin would be getting the pistol.

If the gunner/assassin is one class then this last one would be intresting and could be anything.

Gunner - if the assassin dosn't take over good pistol play then there will be a gunner/musketeer like class.

Nature spellcaster - I could see a druid like class, they usally fall under medium armor similar to a ranger but more focus on spells then weapons/pets.

    but really

    ninja - assasin

    pirate - gunner

    They gonna start a war.

I think, now with the sylvari, that are all nature and stuff... well there might be like a Druid class, cuz in the teaser the syilvari character gives life to a tree thing, and maybe it will integrate the mechanics of the Ritualist or/and the mesmer in some way...

the rest, i think the same that anybody else.

In any case, of the four remaining professions to be announced, I reckon the Mesmer is for sure returning.

The Monk may return in a very different form; monks could be a lightly armored melee class using a combination of melee and smiting abilities.

The other adventurer profession may well be an Assassin analog, a rogue if you will... judging from the concept art of lithe, dagger-wielding individuals and the crouched shadow in the professions painting.

The final profession is difficult to analyze, but, as it is another soldier, I suppose it could be like what most people speculate: a Battlemage or something similar... juding from the blue-chain-hammer wielding soldier concept art.  I doubt the second soldier would be a gunner, because the warrior already fulfills that niche.

    Thoughts?

Edit: Yes the profession names are unoriginal; I am just using them as easily recognizable placeholders.  =)

    Monk/Dervish  is a temple knight,templar.

  • sazabisazabi Member UncommonPosts: 389

before speculating please think about Monk.

even tho they are trying to get rid of pure healer/support types, monk was pretty much the key figure (apart from the insanely iconic WarMonk noob favorite) in any group, also in lore.

so i doubt we wont have Monk.

  • DiovidiusDiovidius Member UncommonPosts: 1,026

However remember that only the humans believe in gods. Each of the other races has it's own believe system or none at all. Therefore the Monk and the Dervish are unlikely to return, at least anywhere near the way they were introduced in GW1.

Consequently this also means that the second soldier can not be a Cleric or Paladin. Knight or Paragon or similar name which fits the same archetype but which does not have the religious connotation is much more likely.

In addition, in response to sazabi, they will not have a dedicated support profession. Some will be better for support than others, sure, but none will be dedicated to it. All can solo. All can deal damage and use control. Precisely the fact that the Monk was part of every group is the reason Anet is getting rid of a dedicated support profession. Dependence on a single profession is unwanted and thus not included.

All classes so far looking good in comparison to diablo 3(Three of them dissapointed me)

Gw2 so far has released the right class packet that i dont know which class to play.Hope they continue this way.

I think a druid  or an assasin would be cool.
