So one thing I just noticed that I didnt realize was that FFXIV only costs 12.99 a month. Granted, not huge savings, but it comes out to a little less than 25 bucks a year in savings.
However, they do charge you 3 dollars to create an additional toon, and 1 more a month for each additional toon.
However, that being said, you really only need 1 toon as they can be all classes.
Curious what others think about this.

While one avatar can be all classes I ask this question. Would you want to try to carry the equipment of all classes on a single avatar? Or even four classes?
Not only that, but if you have a Final Fantasy XIV account, you can get your normally $12.95/mo FFXI account discounted to $7.00/mo. The plot thickens!
Actually it is $3.00 for each addtional character and $1.00 for each additional retainer per month. Not a $3.00 charge to create a character and $1.00 per character.

I plan on keeping gear for one combat class and the three harvesting classes. Still a good chunk of inventory space, but there is really no reason to carry around gear for every combat class and crafting class. Just let your retainer hold it for you.
Funny. Final Fantasy XI was the same price but on average I paid $21 a month for that game. They always toss in extra charges.
There really is no need for extra characters. The only reason would be if you wanted different looking ones. More of a vanity feature.
Additional retainers will probably be necessary especially for crafters. A serious crafter will want to purchase a few extra retainers. I ran out of space quickly in open beta and I was just fooling around with crafting, with basic mats. The only way I was able to keep things under control was by selling all the + items.
Err, so you pay 13 bucks, you get the 3 slots, or only 1?

Drop the next-gen marketing and people will argue if the game itself has merit.

The only reason I see to get an additional character is if you would like to have a Fighter (Str / Dex / Vit ) and a caster ( Mind, Int, Piety, Vit ) without haveing to spend hours switching the stats from one to the other can back again.
The is no bank, that is what retainers can do for 80 slots each.

Meh, it's not really ironic when we're talking a basic price to get into the game that's below the typical $15/mo. Now, if it were $16/mo, I'd see where you're coming from.
It should be noted that the presense of your retainers are a minor inconvenience to the other players, since you can park those little buggers in marketplaces and bazaars throughout the game, so the $1/mo limiting factor on additional retainers is a good thing in this regard.
Well don't forget the people who love different kind of characters.
I don't care about stats.
Every race and gender plays different for me, and that has nothing to do with battle or stats.
Cute Lalafell female, Sexy and Cool Miqo'te, or a nice hyur male to fantasize about. But not one of them I see as me, they are just fantasy characters, created by my mind.
I played all 3 in Beta, and still can't decide, I love them all.

I hadn't gotten a chance to try out selling on the retainers since my computer was down for 2 weeks, now my Westinghouse 22 inch LCD monitor broke and won't turn back on again, the monitor's power just shut off when I was in the middle of the opening scenes for Vindictus and won't turn back on.
If I had 2 retainers, and wanted to park 1 in one city, and another in a different city at the end of the night or while I'm in game leveling, do I have to teleport to the spot I want the retainer to sit at?
Like, do I call it at the summoning bell, and let it follow me to the place I want it and I say to it "Sit, Ubu, sit!" and would have to teleport to the next city and do the same? Is there a main neutral city like Jeuno was here? I only got to play about 4-5 days on Besaid and have to wait for a new monitor to come hopefully by the 22nd that I ordered.
My VGA plug in back of my laptop here, is that only external to a larger monitor, or can I plug my desktop VGA cable to my laptop and use this screen, and it be internal as well? Does it work both ways?
As I understand it, there is no in-game mail system. Not that it bothers me. Is the storage/warehouse account shared or specific to characters?

When you say companies I assume you mean characters. Okay so no warehouse. I suppose I can see that.

Well you can usually make the saving on other MMORPGs a 6month sub to wow comes down to 12.99USD per month which is the same as the cheaper monthly fee FFXIV offers, except you can create as many characters as you like on a single server and 50 accross all server.
Nice to see a company milking their customer base out of character slots for 3USD a month and ppl call it savings!
This game is really meant for one character. One character can do everything.
I guess some people just want to walk around with a different avatar every once in a while?
No I mean companies. Which is FFXIV's guild system. Linkshells are just chat channels that can have up to 128 members in FFXIV.
