Positively Positive ~ Pre-Release Bonding

Please note that if you aren't going to play the game then there really isn't any point of you posting here and I will interpret that as trolling.

So let's all talk about what features we are most excited about? We all know that there will be a few additions (or a lot) come launch so what are you looking forward to the most?

Any funny stories about how your LS/Guild decided on your server? Or any stories in general about your reactions to things.

Who is your favorite person on the SE Production/Development Team?

What was your favorite trailer or ad?

So let's talk about!

You wanted my time, so I played you. You wanted my money, I forked it over. You wanted my soul, I gave it willingly. Not to complain... but when do I get my end of the deal? And no, I don't want your flippin' carrot. If you can't do that give me back my youth and keep the change. Why don't you try chasing your own damn carrot for a change? I'll gladly hold the stick.

As a person that tends to want to create a character of every class and be able to do every profession I find the FF XIV character/class/profession design to be interesting and was one of the things I most looked forward to in the game.

I like fishing. That and all my friends that quit XI will be in XIV, so that's good too.

Yup yup, I love making characters.  What race is your favorite so far?

I find myself really excited to see the new character creation options that they are adding for release. I'm hoping they will add some longer hairstyles. Lala's need new hair, they only have 4 options for girls. Where Miqo'te's have like 9.

I love fishing, I think I scouted out every single good fishing and grinding spot in Thanalan. (the zone Ul'dah is in.

Looking forward to having a real market of some sort.  Either searchable retainers or an actual auction house.  With the current system crafters are going to have a hard time selling their wares and consumers will be getting ripped off left and right without any way to see an average price for the goods they are interested in.

It's a lose lose for everyone involved and was a really stupid design decision by SE.

Who is your favorite person on the SE Production/Development Team?

No one really, everything I've seen/read about SE makes them come off as arrogant pricks.  But you don't have to like the people making the game to like the game.

I enjoyed FFXI a lot, and there's something about FFXIV that brings that feeling back.  I can't put my finger on it, but I'm looking forward to starting the actual release game on the 22nd.

My wife just remade her beta character for the umpteenth time. She finally settled on what she wanted. Of course, when they add the extra stuff, it's going to be back to square one probably. :p

Well it's coming. Anyway, SE already stated that they apologize for the troubles people have been having with the markets and said they are looking to add a couple of features to make it easier for players to navigate and locate things.

Honestly Uemetsu doesn't come off that way to me at ALL. Tanaka seems like a really stressed man who has thrown his whole career history into SE. Which he has. He's been working for Square since he got out of college. I haven't had the time to research the other main staff people yet though.

Most likely, but isn't that part of the fun? =D I'm so excited!

Isn't the extra stuff just hair? You can change that in game...I think.

But yeah...hair is part of the overall look I guess. Meh. They need a plastic surgeon too.

The thing I'm looking forward to the most is having a good excuse to build a new computer =)

Drop the next-gen marketing and people will argue if the game itself has merit.

No they are adding in the rest of the quests and companies. New monster types... new SE player site, it's up already, pretty nifty. A whole slew of new weapons and gear.

    • [ Ishgard ]

The Knights of Ishgard are fighting a holy war with an ancient race of dragons, and are currently refusing contact with those they call ‘unbelievers.’ These defenders of the mountain realm appear in several different quest lines.

    • * Class Quests can be performed by joining guilds and fulfilling certain prerequisites.

      * Class quests will not only earn players rewards, but through their stories, players can also learn more about each individual city-state.

      * In addition to regular rewards, completing these quests will earn players guild marks which can be used to purchase special items from that guild.

      * More items will be made available for exchange in the near future.

    • Recovering MP

Our original plan was to make MP management an important factor in the game, and we designed the game so players would have to carefully consider when and where to use MP. Rather than having weak spells that can be used over and over for minimal damage, we wanted to make magic powerful?something that delivers a single strike of massive damage and can instantly change the tide of a battle.

While maintaining this concept we will not only be conducting adjustments on existing methods to refresh MP (such as Aetheryte, abilities, and magic spells), but also plan on adding new methods.

    • Part Damage

On some monsters, players will be able to damage individual parts such as arms and legs. For example, vines can be cut from morbols, and horns and tails can be struck from monsters that have them Parts can be damaged by using certain weaponskills while standing in certain positions.

The effect will not only be visual, but will accomplish the following:

      * Weaken the monster

      * Prevent the monster from using its special attacks

      * Allow the player to obtain the damaged part

    • Notorious Monsters

      * Soon Notorious Monsters will make their appearance in FFXIV.

      * Most will appear different from regular monsters.

      * Some are so large they will make regular morbols seem small.

    • Post-Release

In addition to what was announced here today, we are also planning massively multiplayer battles.

There currently exist several class abilities which may have players scratching their heads as to how they are to be used. Many of these were designed with PVP in mind. While we cannot reveal much regarding PvP now, we have some exciting announcements planned for the near future.

    • Retrying Levequests

Levequest targets give players many times more EXP and skill points than normal monsters (even if not using guardian aspect). To prevent some players from taking advantage of this system by completing most of a levequest, failing on purpose, and then trying the quest again immediately, we have made it impossible to retry a levequest immediately after failing it. However, this does not mean players are not allowed to retry levequests. By returning and talking to the NPC who issued the quest, players can gain the opportunity to retry the quest objectives.

    • Upcoming guildleve introduction

We will be adding not just normal guildleves, but a wide variety of types of guildleves. First, there will be higher level guildleves. Among those, many will have more variance in the rules/goals as well as being able to fight with more varied monsters in many more target areas. In particular, we heard many comments of "I want to fight more and more NMs!" so we want to respond to that quickly. Also, the faction leves that were in the Open Beta are designed to be a somewhat "different taste" from regular leves, with hidden starting conditions or npcs. The rewards for these are fairly good, so please try them out! Finally, we are going to be steadily adding more and more leves that encourage coordination between all the classes including gathering/crafting/magic/war. Please look forward to it!

    • Negotiations are another way of obtaining loot (other than battles). By choosing the right conversation subject with a NPC, player can engage in negotiations and receive items in exchange for items wanted by the NPC. If player does exceptionally well, it's possible to get some free stuff as an extra.

    • Relationship Crafting/Gathering & PC Status: PC's physical level & attributes will have an effect on crafting and gathering. There are hints in the game as to what does what, so please search for it.

    • Market: We don't want crafters and gatherers to simply "put up" their items on the market and that's it. We want them to also act as salesmen and learn to play the market intelligently. For this purpose, we will begin with focus on the Bazaar market system. On that note, in order to be able to tell "What's for sale?" etc, we are planning to adjust policy and add functionality to improve the user friendliness.

    • Due to game balance consideration, the level cap on release will be 50

    • There will be package discount pricing on the subscription (Japan-3months, NA/EU 3/6 months)

    • Crafters will be able to cooperate in large-scale projects (boats, cannons, wedding cakes! YUM) so more fun for you and your company!

    • The faction leves have you fight different beastman tribes and such.

Lots and LOTS and LOTTSSSSSS :D So exciting.

Actually its not lots and lots, its fine tuning with a few additions.  I'm going to assume their will be more tuning as part of the launch day patch, but what they've listed is a fair bit less than average.  Niether does it address many of the issues people have with the game.  What most also seem to ignore is they don't claim all of it will be in for launch, referring to "soon" in many cases when discussing content.

So I'd get excited more about their long term plan, than short, as I'm sure they will eventually get there.  Otherwise I have a feeling one is going to feel disappointed.

lmao.  I think your wife and I are possibly related.

I think the thing I'm most looking forward to is random exploration.  And harvesting along the way for my culinary creations.  And probably being a conjurer.

Me: "Oh look!  See that gorgeous princess castle in the distance?!  Well I'm going there if it kills me."

Game: A <insert monster> has hit you from the right for 893,089,982,883 damage.  You died.

Ugh that sounds like some things I did. I wanted to go visit the Sea of Spires. (which is amazingly beautiful btw. I found the gate once and never found my way back again...

Those monsters handed my butt to me many a time.

Did you ever get to explore the "Dungeons"?

I left out all the fine-tuning stuff. And most of the stuff that is slated for after release. Almost none of these things were in OB.

Fishing hit me square (no pun intended) between the eyes. More than anything else though, I am looking forward to exploring the new world. I like the idea of forging onward and finding that next great vista (not the OS....).

I am reasonably sure I will have two accounts. One for craft and one for 'other'. The crafter will be just that aside for a few $$ quests (levees). The other will be my main and he shall relax when done with a hearty day of questing/exploring by pulling up a chair and casting into the local fishing hole.

    *sigh*

Ah, those fishing holes so tempting. I always laugh when I'm trying to cook something real quick in a cave near a watering hole (time saver) and I get attacked. Makes me laugh.

Hmmm honestly? Im looking forward to the community; to people who played ff11 and value in game friendships and reputation. When Im playing a game for hours I want to be able to shoot the shit with people, laugh, talk about life and make connections. I think thats the mst important thing about MMOs , because otherwise I could keep stealing silver kitchenware and clothing in Oblivion(honestly i do it for hours... its like crack, dunno whats wrogn with me).

    Besides the community i know ff14 will foster I am looking forward to;

A beautiful game with character models and a world that is aesthetically pleasing to me. No uglies like in Aion. And no "toons"- stems from cartoons- like in WoW.

I cant wait to choose Hyur and be the taunt stud I wish I was in RL. Or Miqote, alas RL sex confusion is so passe and I tired of it in FF11...but maybe i shouldnt have chosen a female elven, and then the Mithra i should have been from the beginning years later.

I look forward to starting a craft from day one of PS3 release that way im not years behind like in ff11 and find myself depressed by the idea of "catching up" hehe. Oh and fishing, im going to fish.

I look at the brightside of 6 months of waiting. Which is; bugs fixed, content added and fixed, and most importantly game mechanics understood a little clearer so my friends can offer guidance if Im confused. :P

I wish they had done a new race though, anyone remember the "girl with horns" fiasco :P lol We got so excited didnt we. That was back before the "OB review" trolls lol when FF14 was still somewhat under the radar, only recently name changed from "Rapture".

    I love snails.
    I love every kinda snail.
I just want to hug them all, but I cant.
    Cant hug every snail.

I played FF1 SOOOO far back. It was what got me going into RPGS. I suppose it those were the first deep seated FF hooks!

When FF 14 started to be known, I heard the pros and the cons  but I was already addicted before I ever saw it. I have tried and played most of the AA and AAA titles in the past 5 years but nothing ever stuck. (Not that they were bad but I never clicked). I knew right from the get-go that FF14 was going to be a new 'home' for me. That brought on such a warm fuzzy feeling that I was almost mystified as to what and why it happened.

It sounds odd I agree but come Wednesday I'll be home and happy to start looking forward to the next few years of gaming in one place.

  • BeansnBreadBeansnBread Member EpicPosts: 7,254

If I was going to play it, I think the thing that draws me in the most is the class system. I like that I can have one character do everything in the game. No more freaking obnoxious alts.

Another thing I find appealing (which a lot of people seem to disagree with) is the slowed down, nearly turn based combat. Yeah, it's not all flashy, but it has a more strategic feel in groups.

You are correct. That said, this is a thread about the things people like. If you don't like things about the game, there are other places to post those comments.

This is a positive thread for chatting. Please be polite and don't derail it just to nit-pick.

Well Lalafells are getting a bunch more hairs, so that is great. :D The hardware mouse I am excited about (although I really only play with controller), the class system is needless to say AWESOME. The areas are beautiful; and I am most excited about the opening of the gates to Ishgard, I have a feeling it will be very cool.

image That would be me, pointing at ishgard, because it just happened to look very nice. :D

Oh and I am very excited about the story line quests, I can not wait to get into the story. The initial story quest was really great, so I can't wait to see what comes after.

    1) Derailing

    2) If you aren't going to play the game then obviously you would have NOTHING to contribute to the thread.

    3) If you feel you CAN by some god forsaken miracle contribute without derailing, be my guest. But you are already off to a bad start.

    4) If you continue to derail the thread, or continually make negative remarks that attack people that falls into trolling. Pick your poison. Because you ARE trying to start an argument with me when there is none to be had. Which IS against the forum rules.
