Class / Game Guides

Has anyone found good class, city and game guides? Been looking around but most I've found are quite... thin.. Any suggestions. Would like to read up before early access next week.

Thanks.

    this game is a journey, and with as with all other journies it begins and ends with a single step.

    Thanks.

    Aside from what's on FFXIVCore?

    My other links are secret.. because they give my a competitive edge and I don't know if I like you yet. Just kidding, if you need more than what is on FFXIVCore or on the site I gave the URL to. Just ask and I'll see if I know where the answer is if it isn't already crammed into my head already. :D

    So feel free to ask away, I love answering questions.

    You wanted my time, so I played you. You wanted my money, I forked it over. You wanted my soul, I gave it willingly. Not to complain... but when do I get my end of the deal? And no, I don't want your flippin' carrot. If you can't do that give me back my youth and keep the change. Why don't you try chasing your own damn carrot for a change? I'll gladly hold the stick.

    Right.. ?

    I didn't mean levelling guides. Just mean class guides as in what the difference is between classes, what stats are important and it's effect, weapons, skills etc. Plus difference between starter zones. The ones at Core doesn't seem to have much. Might have to have another look.

    I found it very helpful. If you need any help with it, just let me know.

    ffxiv.yg.com is a great database resource.  I haven't found many detailed class guides yet though.

    I'll post a few pointers I have myself figured out here:

    1.  Start as a Gladiator, no matter what you plan on being.  Gladiator grants you the best starting gear (which all classes can use) and stats.  Then you can just buy a weapon for the class you want to start as after you finish the noob quest.

    2.  Your stats matter, a LOT.

    STR = physical attack
    VIT = physical defense
    DEX = physical accuracy
    INT = magical attack
    MND = magical defense
    PIE = magical accuracy

    5 or 10 points put into a stat make a lot of difference.  The difference between 20 STR and 40 STR is about 100% extra damage.  So if the other stats scale the same way, that would mean that every point is a 5% increase in the effect associated with that stat.

    I don't know if that's accurate (just guessing really), but I do know that every point matters.

    o.o of course 20-40 is 100%

    Does it not work like that in other games? I'm shocked... I never noticed. (no sarcasm at all)

    I don't think that info is accurate at all.

    Physical stats don't matter as much as one would think. Sure, you can see the difference between 20 and 40 STR but it is not 100% difference, not even close.

    I think the manual will clear a lot of things up. Such as crafting classes and stats.

    Note, at 40 in a stat it will cost twice as many points to raise it.

    The crafting guides I've found so far are pretty much a cut&paste off the beta forums with some conjecture, so I'd wait to find one that is more accurate.

    Drop the next-gen marketing and people will argue if the game itself has merit.

    So far, it sounds like the manual is pretty bare bones so I wouldn't expect much from that

    The community sites already have a ton of info and once the game is live that info will grow by leaps and bounds.  Usually takes 3-4 weeks before we know just about everything about everything in an MMO.

    Not really.

    First off, because if you're not playing a class that is listed under "favored" for that gear, you only get about 25% of the benefit out for it. (At least in the gear I tested.)  The Gladiator's gear most likely is compatible with most of the Disciples of War. I would say the Gladiator has an advantage in that they get armor at the start, thereby allowing you to easily get what you're missing from the guildleves (which seemed rather cloth-heavy during beta) but actually I'm pretty sure that's false: all the classes start off with level 1 weathered cloth gear of various types.

    Although, on second thought, maybe what you mean is this: Gladiators Get A Shield. That would be a really good point, because shields are pretty hard to get early on (unless you plan to take carpentry and whatever other trades are needed to get the parts to assemble a Square Maple Shield) and raises a whole separate "shield" skill tree. I actually was equipping a shield with my Conjurer while he was using a Maple Wand - it didn't seem to hurt my spell-casting ability at all.

    Second, because I'm pretty sure starting stats are the same regardless of class you pick. It's completely based off of your race. Even then, the stat deviation is so minor as to be a completely cosmetic choice in a few levels.

    Well, that makes two wildly different accounts I've heard of it. "Pretty hefty" and now "Bare Bones." I guess we'll see. Heck, I'm getting the collector's edition, I'll not only have the manual, I'll have a travel journal.

    Worse case scenario, I suppose you could always buy the hint guide which, it has been my experience, is something a sad majority of developers in the industry have come to rely upon as being the missing manual purchase for years.

    IDK man, SE been infamous for never having especifics and detailed manuals.

    Like all the thins still shruded in mystery on ffxi (crafting direction, moon factor stats factor, ele gear , etc etc etc.

    Well we will see soon enough.

    XI manual was like... 200+ pages, a monster. The JP manual broke bones when you dropped it.

    Doesn't seem like XIV manual will be that large though. Fits better in those DVD boxes.
