CE: Security Token and Right of Passage

I bought the Pre-order for the CE FF14 game from Gamestop and they list a few strange items as bonus items....

A FINAL FANTASY XIV branded Security Token used in addition to your regular password ...so what is this? we have to type in two passwords?

RIGHT OF PASSAGE – Redeem a voucher to receive your fully personalized right of passage certificate, each stamped with a unique serial number .....so what does this do? is this an in game item? can it be redeemed for items or what?

Thanks

It is an optional item you can use to further protect your account from getting stolen by, for example, RMT or your greedy e-girlfriend.

If you don't use it and get your account stolen, well, you were warned.

I've no idea about the certificate.

Using LOL is like saying "my argument sucks but I still want to disagree".

The token is added security to your account.

How can I explain in my country you can get a small item form bank to be able to check your account from home, you switch it on and a random passwords appears and you have to type it in to be able to log (This changes every x minutes or seconds)

This makes it harder for your account to be hacked.

The right of passage is a free trial that let's people see what's like ffxiv for a few days and then if they like the game they can purchase it to play.

While you are right about the passwords, the "right of passage" is just a lame certificate you can send in for (then get framed if you want) if you want to fly your nerd flag for everyone to see.  It could also possibly used as an ultimate line of defense against account hacking since it is like a birth certificate which you could copy/fax/scan to S-E as proof you are the legitimate owner.

The buddy pass is different, but you also get this.

    Ah sorry then.

Then it's that certificate na people get or something with the ce edition.

I'm feeling kinda 'meh' about this right of passage.  Personally, I'd rather the map and tumbler. =/

    pie.

  • terroniterroni Member Posts: 935

Meh, if you pre-order the normal game from Walmart you get a map =P

Drop the next-gen marketing and people will argue if the game itself has merit.

Lol the right of passage... its ironic.

    I love snails.
    I love every kinda snail.
I just want to hug them all, but I cant.
    Cant hug every snail.

Right of Passage is a Birth Certificate for your character. They actually make one up and send it to you in the mail.

So you pay 25 dollars more and get paper and a few xtra days to play(12 dollars gives u a whole month)? Sounds like you got gib'd. I'm just pokin fun. I really dont think its right and SE or whoever is over the NA CE release should be more then ashamed of them selves.

A map and a cup is at least something you c an hold on too, I even heard AUS CE has Goggles, I guess like Cid's(?)

But yeah, paying xtra for 3 more days of a(right now) buggy game and a sheet of paper you can print out your self for 10 cents seems a little.... i dont know, whats the word

Games I've Played: SilkRoad, Flyff, NeoCron, PlanetSide, Rapplez, UpshiftRacer, Drift City, TB, Kwonho, ArchLord, AoA, Exteel, WolfTeam, Shaiyan, WoKF, FFXIV, STO, KoTR, ESO, Defiance, Mabinogi

    Games I'm Playing: Warframe/STO

The Security Token is the same as Blizzard's Authenticator. Which frankly is nice to have and I wouldn't at all be surprised if in the future more (most) CE come with some kind of similar device.

Forgive your ignorance, but isn't it 7 days before the regular retail client is released?

Not to mention this statement just makes you a troll.

"But yeah, paying xtra for 3 more days of a(right now) buggy game"

Maybe you don't understand this but most Beta clients are not even close to the final release clients. Even if it is just a few days from the actual game release, the updated client is in some cases way beyond what the beta players are using. This has been seen in many, many Beta games. There are exceptions for sure, but I seriously believe that when the game itself is released into retail, if not a week after, almost all the client bugs will be fixed. The rest of the bugs in game come afterwards, if you don't believe that, then you have not played participated in enough Betas or really are a troll.

  • BloodaxesBloodaxes Member EpicPosts: 4,662

Yes you get 8 days headstart with ce.

  • MuruganMurugan Member Posts: 1,494

It is eight days.  Again I'd pay another 25 dollars for Collector's Collector's edition and 2 and a half more days of this wonderful, engaging, work of art/"buggy game".

  • geldonyetichgeldonyetich Member Posts: 1,340

Eight days minus however long it takes your retailer to get you your copy past the promised street date. ;)

  • BloodaxesBloodaxes Member EpicPosts: 4,662

Heh I'll probably going to lose all headstart damn play technical issues -.-

So 8 Days minus shipping time. Whatever that totals too, if that makes you happy, then I guess so. I'm not arguing with you, just stating some "free tyme play" + a birth thing doesnt compare to getting a Map, Cup, and Goggles... I dont see why you would defend that?

As for the "beta" thing being more ready then most.. the game has been out for some time now, its just being ported to English so I would hope it would be more stable/balanced then more new games being Beta tested, ya kno?

As for bug fixes, I dont know, we'll have to see how well SE NA Co. customer service is... FFXI was hellish. And not sure what the troll thing is but okay. "Ya momma"

Shipping time amounts to squat if you either are picking the game up in the store or used a reliable online retailer which offers the release day shipping that Square is offering on FFXIV.

Meaning that they have the games already, will ship them before the release date so that they arrive to you on the release date (or as many of us are hoping, at least a day before).

The second half of your response is MISINFORMATION, LIES, B*******, and a POSSIBLE TROLL ATTEMPT this is not an English port this is a worldwide launch of a brand new MMO.  (except China, they have to wait a little longer, and have to sit at their own table)

Nowhere seems to offer release day delivery to Canada.  :(

Clearly the Japanese players should be forbidden from writing in their own language.

Unless you are talking about the one bugged status effect indicating your armor was worn which was acknowledged by the dev's a month ago, and will be fixed in release client.

So... much... Japanese... must resist... I think I'm turning Japanese... I really think so... Turning Japanese... I think I'm turning Japanese!! Aaaaggghhh-

Meh a month to fix a text error? Pshaw.

Since the beta client and the release client are two completely different clients (and as such you are supposed to uninstall the beta client) they didn't bother fixing most of the minor errors in the beta client.. they wanted to know about them, sure, but if it wasn't game breaking then they weren't worried about fixing it in a throw-away client.  Why waste the time?  They held the beta to test certain things and stress servers.  A weird philosophy compared to most, but it doesn't seem like a bad idea to me.

*Edit - And to any who would pull out the 'releasing untested content' card.. that's what their in-house testing department is for.  o.O

They made nearly no changes, whatsoever, at all, to the Open Beta.

The release build is just that, a different build of the game.  It is 22 gb+, the beta version is only 8 gb, the Beta was only meant to test certain systems and server issues.  It was not at all a representation of the game, it was a test, only a test.

Because Square Enix puts a higher emphasis on the story, immersion, and lore of their games than do most MMO producers.  Though this is not entirely unheard of, sure in some of the most recent releases beta's have been virtual trials of the games.

However in the old days many companies used to commonly hold back during beta tests (which were never as large as they generally are today) so that the players still had plenty to discover upon release, often changing entire systems/content to give the release that fresh and undiscovered feeling.

To have this info leaked and spoiled prior to the game's launch S-E would see as a major disaster for their game they have put so much effort into.  Open Beta was not an advertising ploy, it was (and I know this is a gigantic shocker) merely a test.

I guess we'll see how "buggy" the game is at launch due to this philosophy, but I'd put Square Enix's reputation in this regard up against any other MMO developer any day of the week.
