The Awful Playonline software???

So this past week, I decided to register FF11 and activate the subscription for a month to get the veteran reward.

I recieved the game as a gift years ago, and never activated it because i had heard terrible things, well... i think I found that terrible thing.

 

To make an account you have to use this awful program called PlayOnline. Basically it times out constantly and gives ucs errors left and right until you give up and call support to create the account and get charged $1/minute for phone support. I've been trying to get my account created for a week. I can't put into words how frustrating this whole process is, so im not going to try any further.

 

So my question is, will FF14 use this terrible system?

    I couldn't be happier about this, myself. POL was good at first, but it got REALLY annoying after a while.

    Now I can only hope they have a really good billing system. On FFXI, I had been double billed a few times, and their customer service was generally terrible when it came to this, and I think I only got one of them refunded, but it was a hassle.

    Although, if you do have an active FFXI account and want your Hermes Boots, you will need to link your PlayOnline account your Square-Enix account.  You'll never need to log in with PlayOnline to get to FFXIV, but you will at least need to link it to the account through the website.

    Glad to see it doesn't use Play Online. 

    I bought FFXI when it dropped down to like $5 a couple months ago and I only logged in a few times and the entire reason was because of the Playonline software. It was so terrible and took so much work to log in, that I really just didn't want to deal with it.

    Hey I got double billed by POL a long time again. Over drifted my account so then I had to deal with the bank and the crappy SE customer support. I wonder how FFXIV customer support will be... hopefully not as bad. But then again, it is an Asian import game : they dont kare about us NA'ians

    I actually have to keep an old debit card on hand when I talk to S.E cause they always want that info. The kicker is I have moved 4 times due to work, thus changed my payment and billing info 4 times lol.
