Help - Server Choices

AericynAericyn Member UncommonPosts: 394

So two days and this is the first time I have been so close to a title launch without a decision on server. Looks like Lindblum, Mysidia and Besaid will be beast servers.

Some of the questions I think about are -

- Is a huge server good or bad? Better population, but bigger pop more economy competition, more troll magnetism.

- What time zones are folks from and is that affecting their server choice? I would like to be in a community of Pacific time folks.

- Smaller servers may be quaint but quieter and less item availability. Having same result as large server through different affect on item prices.

Melmond makes sense to me - it was the very first town in the very first FF, which adds a mote of charm. Perhaps the community will be like minded and easy going.

Over time each server sort of develops it's own personality. Some examples would be like Tyranny versus Cimmeria on AoC or Landroval on LOTRO.

Anyhow what do you think? Plunge into the beast servers or pick one lower on list without being the bottom?

How do you pick your server when you don't have an established group choosing one through consensus? Alphabetically would be Besaid - I know players often just pick first one in list. hehe

Im going istory, i like the name , doesnt look to populated, and my ls budies never voted in my poll and obligated me to pick one. so Istory it is to me. was that or selbina but selbina seems to be a home for ffxi veterans , and honestly i whant a fresh start.

Also i prefer low populated servers, less competition at start .i mean there wont be large scale content in a while , by then all servers would be around the same, so no real point to go to the most populated servers .On a personal point of view i hate lag D=.

    depends on you.

For me a high profile server is bad. My friends and I are running a LS, our prefrance is quality over quanity. Theres going to be big zerg LS's running around on high profile servers, its harder on family oriented LS's to compete against the bigger zergs. We have picked a lower profile server to play on. After all its a PvE game, not PvP.

If you like being in big zerg LS's then yes higher profile servers is where you will find the best LS's for that at. Economy will be roughly the same on every server. Prices on ffxiah.com for rare items were pretty close to the same on all servers.

So again it depends on how you like gamining to answer this question.

Waiting for:EQ-Next, ArcheAge (not so much anymore)
    Now Playing: N/A
    Worst MMO: FFXIV
    Favorite MMO: FFXI

As you may or may not know, Besaid was voted as the unofficial RP server by the RP coalition, so it's something to keep in mind.

I was going to pick a random server but I reunited with some old AoC friends and they will be on Besaid. I'm not really into roleplaying but the RPers tend to make an awesome community.

Agreed, I didn't expand further on initial thought - large LS (guild/corp) in general lead to generic/zergish gameplay sessions. So I am certainly interested in smaller family type organizations.

Having one character slot makes it tough to "shop around" to see what servers are like. hehe

If economy info is accurate that is good to know. As a game market matures I have seen any number of things happen, so perhaps I just won't worry about that part for now.

Perhaps Melmond is the way then - it was my OB server and seemed fine but that's a tough gauge as OB is not really telling of launch community. Instinct picked The Rathe years ago and that was certainly a good choice so...

Thanks for feedback curious how other folks feel too. :)

That was another thing I wondered, which one was going to be RP. Cool thanks, RP servers tend to have good communities.

I proclaim Wutai the official PvP mini-game (ballista type) niche server!

    Wutai is sexy. =D
