Airship docks?

AericynAericyn Member UncommonPosts: 394

Anyone see these docking stations in the Limsa fields during OB? It was located in between the first and second Aether camp. Kind of off the path though.

Just throwing it out there as it gives the impression there might be scenic travel at launch. Would be cool - like WoW airships maybe?

Yup, I believe you are talking about this.

Yep! The prospect of this alone is a nice excitement factor for Weds. :)

I didn't see any others except for in La Noscea. So I don't know if this will be THAT big of a deal, or what.

Lol, you must not have explored at all.

They are all over the Black Shroud (Gridania's zone), several places off the road in Ul'dah (as that is their point), and in the regions beyond the starting zones.

shhhh dont let the trolls think that travel will become easier as you level up. or that there was content left out of OB, to allow for quicker travel! Let them think that travel will always be restricted to walking, and teleports with limited anima.

I believe it is the Adventurer's Guild in Gridania that has an airship station on the lower floor.  The NPC there said something about the airships were currently not available as they were under maintenance.

I also saw what I thought was an airship flying way off in the distance one time during OB.  Unfortunately, I couldn't get a screenshot before it was gone.  It didn't make sense either since I knew the airships weren't in for OB.  I am just wondering if maybe it was some devs testing it out.

The moment I read "It's like" or "WoW" is the moment I stop reading your post.

I noticed a lot of airships flying around Ul-dah. They were definatly in the game. I am just curious what level you have to be to do the quest to use airships.

The NPCs at the airship stations in Gridania were saying the airships were still a work in progress.  Whether this means they'll be in at release or sometime afterward is anyone's guess.

i remember at one point jeuno was a regular grand central station in XI's prime. i would suspect they will, as time progresses get alot of that old feel back in some cities.

Yeah I found several of them all over the place. I would guess they have a level requirement and will be added at launch (or shortly after).

Based on what the various Chocobo renters say I'm also fairly certain that Chocobo will be available at launch they just have a level requirement and you'll have to do a quest like in FFXI. (Basically some of them say "I can't rent them to just anyone" which is close to what is said in FFXI)

Ah yes, this is something I am very excited about.  I can't wait to find out the details behind Airships and Chocobos.

I wonder if it will be similar to FFXI.  *sigh* 6 real-time hours to get the license. :)

i'm saying this for the record, if they make me go through what i went through on XI to get a chocobo.....i'm gonna maul somebody. >.>  but back to the original OP's question....as far as i know...XI's airship travel was to show you the whole trip...unlike wow where you hop on...fly for 5 seconds.....the map pops up and draws a line to where you land...then put you in the landing spot. i remember on XI even on the boat rrides they showed you the scenery, even gave you a chance to fish and fight...sadly you couldn't fight pirates...or at least i never saw any,.

I never dragged my head out of mob butts or caves long enough to notice this stuff. =D the only exploring I did was trying to get as close as I could to the Sea of Spires.

You wanted my time, so I played you. You wanted my money, I forked it over. You wanted my soul, I gave it willingly. Not to complain... but when do I get my end of the deal? And no, I don't want your flippin' carrot. If you can't do that give me back my youth and keep the change. Why don't you try chasing your own damn carrot for a change? I'll gladly hold the stick.

Nah I explored pretty in depth each of the zones, I just only saw one in Limsa. That's strange, I went all the way from the southern canyons of Thanalan to the Northern canyons of Thanalan, Coerthas, Mor Dhona, and La Noscea. The only one I didn't bother to explore in depth was The Black Shroud, and not once did I see one of the except in La Noscea. That is really strange, strange indeed. Nonetheless I am excited for air travel and chocobos.

Yes, this is my hope for scenic travel maybe WoW example was poor hehe How about EQ1 Freeport to Bucherblock? Anyhow, since we already have teleport I would think Airships would be flavor not convenience. So a full airship view of the world from Limsa to Uldah would be great!
