Suggestions for Improving Ship Interiors

1. When you look at the windows and bridge viewscreen you should see the space outside. This adds tremendously to immersion. If you are in sector space, you should see moving stars like in the shows. And if your ship is in a solar system you should see the planets and stars and or space stations your ship is next to. This is a very important feature IMHO that adds to immersion. Currently you just have a standard dark space outside windows. This was accomlished in SWG: JTL which was a 2003 game.

2. Inviting other players on board. You should be able to invite other players on board your ship, and travel with them. A friend could have his own quarters on board. You should even be allowed to have many friends join your ship like a Fleet. This is not player crews, but it could be like a role-playing feature. When ship interiors have some functionality it would be even better. These friends could have their own quarters. This was all acomlished in SWG: JTL which was released in 2003.

3. Scale needs to be improved. Hallways are too big. Lounge is too big. Captain's Quarters is too big. Bridge is OK.

4. Add functionality to interiors

5. Add a Holodeck to every ship.

6. Polish up existing interiors. Make corners smoother. Add a working captain's computer where you can journal. Add a working holo-emitter that produces food and drinks. Have crew members sitting at tables in the lounge. Be able to sit down in chairs. Little things like that go a long way.

Bottom line, is Cryptic delayed ship interiors because they wanted to get it right and be a feature people will love and not just a marketing point. I don't think ship interiors are yet a great feature at all, they seem to be just a marketing point. And I would like Cryptic to vastly improve them. The basic skeleton is there, the hard part is done. They just need to develop a little time and resources to get it polished and better. They can do it, and I can imagine a lot of gamers want them to do it.

Well, they got these big interiors, now how about makeing a few missions that can be done in them, like fighting off a boarding party or something that would realy be within the Star Trek Universe.

I would have to agree. There is a lot that could be done to make the ship interiors more entertaining from a social/RP perspective, but there is also a lot that can be done using the interiors that they currently have. If they are trying to model the game after the show, well, there was a lot of action that took place inside of the ships in the show. There are a lot of quests/missions/episodes that could be done inside your ship, even simple things like run to engineering and talk to the chief engineer, question a captured enemy in the brig/sick bay. There are a lot of things that could be done inside of the ships using existing mechanics and models. Admittedly I have not been playing the game for long and I have not done every episode, but I have not seen any hints of this kind of content being in the game currently. Please correct me if I am wrong, actually I would be very happy to be wrong.

You are correct, there are no missions that take place on or within your ship and that truly is sad.  Like you said, there are so many things that could be implemented with the ship interiors with the least being a Warp Core overload wich everyone kow happened more than a few time in every series.
