Yea in reality don't blame gamestop for lying, blame square enix for telling you the game is good/complete.

How wonderful, the only reason I even ordered from them at all was the assurance I would be able to get it the night of the release.  So it seems that you can't believe a word they say, I should have went with my gut and ordered online at Amazon.  I'm going in to go get my money and leave them stuck with two copies of 14 that are not spoken for.

I feel your pain.  My Gamestop's area manager called me because I complained so bad to a store manager.  I'm still livid that I can't get the game until tomorrow when the servers open today.  The area manager said non of the stores had a 50 order minimum on the Collector's Edition.  He floated the idea to his district manager to have all the Collector's Edition orders in town combined to ONE location so they could do a midnight launch party.  Unfortunately, the district manager said no because then one store would be getting volume credit for other store's work, yada yada.  So while it sucks, that employee may have expected the launch to happen and then some jackass up the food chain made the employee look like a moron and pissed you off.  Don't take it out on the store level employees.  They were just doing their job.

Makes a lot of sense, I wish that I had been explained this by the manager of my store, or infact why not have these guidelines be well known so that you tell the customer this when you pre order so they know there might be a posibility of that happening.

Why have all of you told me that the store level employees are uninformed of policy?  That seems alarming.

Great question!  That's because in retail/food service employee turn over is insane.  On average, a manager will fill the exact same slot at least eight times in a year for an entry level position.  It goes down to about three times for an entry level supervisor position and two times a year for a store management type position.  As such, 99% of entry level employees that get hired in, it goes like this.  Sign here, here, here, here, and here.  Now that your paper work is done, go change into this.  Now let's go to floor and get started.  We hope you enjoyed our company's new hire employee training program.  Is it right?  No.  It's just the way it is with high turn over.  Proper training costs a fortune.  While it's wrong, the real training for most employees won't start until manager is sure you will stick around.

Fear not fanbois, we are not trolls, let's take off your tin foil hat and learn what VAPORWARE is:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaporware

"Vaporware is a term used to describe a software or hardware product that is announced by a developer well in advance of release, but which then fails to emerge after having well exceeded the period of development time that was initially claimed or would normally be expected for the development cycle of a similar product."

Which is why I made this thread, to show other people to not rely on Gamestop either, this isn't my first bad experience with their employees telling me things just to get me to buy now and regret later.

What really gets me mad is when I'm told things that aren't true just to get me to buy things on false premises, being told products or serivces are better than they actually are and having to just take it because their customer service is awful, and it seems consistantly bad from every gamestop I've ever been to.

Most games launch both editions on the same day. Did you check if that gamestop is having a midnight release net-tuesday when the general release normal edition comes out?

If there is, then I'd say you're overreacting a little and trying to make a problem where there really isn't one. The guy may have just not been aware that SE was doing a poorly thought-out (imho) split-release of the box product, and thought that both editions would have the same release date.

When 95% of companies release the CE same day as regular edition, that's just an honest mistake. Most companies that know how to properly handle head-starts also give out the access code ahead of time and just launch the physical box all on the same day.

Get made at SE as much as you are GameStop for trying to be "special for specials sake" and splitting the release, causing the guy to be mistaken and give you the wrong information.

If you had asked a second time for clarity and let the guy know the CE released the week before regular, I'm betting he'd have corrected himself saying there'd be one for the bulk release, but not for just the CE.

Had'nt thought of this but this is something else that is very likely to happen.

Even though I have to say that if the employee did'nt know of the seperate release dates that is a failure of commucation on the store managers part.

@Lauging-man...In rereading this thread I wanting to say I only meant that you were overreacting to the "lied to me part".

Yes someone should have called all pre-orders to let them know there would be no midnight release if it was cancelled.

Yes the store manager should have handle the issue better when you spoke to him. All he can really do is refund your money but it would at least have shown you he understood the issue.

I can tell I still have alot of friends that work at Gamestop, most have moved up to DM or corp. jobs. They tell me the one thing they hate is hearing thru the website that one of their managers has a "I don't give shit attitude"

It sounds like you jave either a burned-out or just plain bad Store Manager. Go over his head it the only way you might see a change at your Gamestop. Good Luck.

Vote with your wallet. They should have mentioned the possibility of it not releasing at midnight to you when you made the pre-order.

    Screw 'em.

Fine, I should have made the title of the thread "Beware, storefront game sellers such as gamestop will say anything to get you to buy from them, even lie"

But that seems really long, and I doubt it would fit.

yeah, my gamestop said i cant get mine until opening tomorrow. I know for a fact though that the games are sitting in the backroom right now.

Gamestop is really a poor choice for PC games. Over the years Ive seen the PC games section in my local stores go from whole walls to 2 or 3 of those rolling racks to what it is now 1 side of 1 rack and mos of whats on that shelf is old crap.  :(

I prefer when games go to DIRECT2DRIVE. Best site, too bad SE didn't take advantage of it.  I honestly don't give 1 shit about the box and the junk that comes with the CE but if I wanted to pre-order, I'd want it on time.  I've used D2D for other MMO's and had the shit installed on my desktop waiting for the servers to open.  Way better than standing in line at Gamestop or worse having to wait because they don't have enough pre-orders for a midnight release.  Sorry that FFXIV doesn't have WoW level hype, I guess that's what you need for a midnight PC game release.

Unfortunately, I've yet to encounter the store that didn't do this, so I'm inclined to believe that this is a reflection of how PC gaming is dying PC gaming is moving more and more to digital distribution and not a reflection on Gamestop in general.

In any case, I ordered from EB games, so I'm perfectly safe. (Not.)

Whether the game is sitting in the back right now collecting major amounts of dust...you still will NOT get it till opening day tomorrow. I also see nothing about a "midnight release" on the gamestop website. They usually tell you and let you put in your zipcode to see if one around you is doing it.

Everyone needs to stop complaining, Amazon is no better because Amazon is known for not giving items on release date either.

I think my favorite part of all this QQing over a terrible game is the fact that the OP apparently thinks he's Gamestop's ONLY CUSTOMER.

    "They should have called me!"

So I suppose you think yourself so important that the person at the counter remembers you and calls you. Out of the hundreds of pre-orders....Here's the thing, chief. If they canceled the midnight opening yesterday, and that store has hundreds of pre-orders for it, without an automated calling system to alert the preorders, it would take them more time calling people from 9-8ish then there are hours until the midnight release. If you don't like it, take your money somewhere else. Gamestop will survive. They're doing SO well here where I live that there are litterally 2 Gamestops in 1 mall, with another 4 blocks away.

And to the guy who is whining that they have the game in the back room right now. Yes. Yes they do. But they are bound BY LAW of contract, to release the game no earlier then 12:01 this evening. Unless you're a Gamestop Employee.......I worked for Electronic's Boutique back after I got out of high school and had my copy of Everquest a day before the servers even came up hehe.

Moral of the story is when everyone asked where to pre order from...   The correct answer was Amazon or some online store that ships it on time.

Edit:   Gamestop DID lie, MULTIPLE employees insisted it would be available at midnight.

Thats a lie, unless they changed the deffinition of lie recently.

Edit2: If your only complaint is by my lack of the use of the word "My" then fair enough.   I'm sorry I didn't just say "my" game stop lied, I assume other gamestops lied too, considering there are several threads that are talking about how gamestop won't have enough games to even give to those who preordered, it seems like they do this sorta thing all the time.

This is not my first bad experience with Gamestop, but it will be my last.

If I was a salesperson and I knew that would be the make or break on the deal I would of said it would have been open at midnight too.

It's like the post a guy made when APB shut down where shortly before it shut down a salesperson in a store told him the game would be around for a long time and was the new hot title. Ya I'd say that too to try and sell off some of the copies before we were stuck with them.

It's okay to be a seedy salesperson that only cares about the bottom line. Just like it's ok to never go back to a company because you feel like a salesperson purposefully deceived you.

I wouldn't mind if the consumer took it even further and reported the salesperson to corporate and explained why they will never buy a product from them again.

Or maybe they've noticed the sharp upswing in CE pre-order cancelations after the OB and only printed limited copies. I saw this coming a ways off having worked in video game retail for a long time, I knew they would have problems trying to guage how many copies to send out now that people are canceling their pre-orders in droves after a terrible open beta.

Actualy, he could try calling HQ and telling them he'll pay for the overtime for the employees to be there if they'll open the store for him and the 6 other people that still have pre-orders for this game. I'm telling you, I bet at one point there WAS a midnight opening for this, but there has been a MASS EXODUS of pre-orders since the TERRIBLE open beta. No point opening the store at midnight so 8 people can come get a 50 dollar game.
