No Phry, I think you misunderstood the fact that this isn't an "MMORPG". It's like a Diablo 2 styled game.

I don't see how the character customization is lacking, also let it be known that in the beta upwards to 80% of the options aren't available. You can adjust the different sizes of your character, height, muscles, etc. You can customize hair, facial hair, scars, tattoos, etc. You can customize the color of everything, from hair, to tattoos, etc.

There's 5 characters to choose from, all which play 100% differently from one another. Each character has skills you can choose from and skill into. The more you develop them the more abilities you get from them. Depending on what you spec into, you unlock different abilities down the road. More attacks, counter attacks, dodges, spells, abilities, combos etc.

The game has crafting, farmability, combat, groups, raids, tons of items. It may not be as in depth as some MMOs that have been our for years, but it has depth. I think the issue for you is, you're judging a game on a VERY limited beta focused on 26 out of 200 levels. You only see one town, you only see two boats, you only see one raid.

Like said though, some people just aren't into the game and that's fine, but it doesn't make it flawed or bad. Seeing 200+ channels brimming with players at level 20+ speaks for itself. You may not enjoy it, but I promise you others do. A lot of people do and a lot of them will play it. The game needs no defending, this is just my common good deed of helping someone who doesn't really know anything about the game know the way it is.

Eh, it's not really "Next-Gen", it's just a new, different and fun game. Though, one thing that could be considered next-gen is the physics engine. Everything is destroyable and everything you do has an impact on the environment. You can lead bosses into destroying pillars or towers on top of them. You can pick stuff up and throw it at the enemy or hit them with it. You can use these grappling hooks to grab specific parts of a boss and hinder them or drag them around while your team beats them down. Also, the graphics are quite nice. They're nothing NEXT GEN, but they're pretty.

Gotta agree with Philby.  I like a good community in my mmorpgs.  I've found almost all F2P communities to be fairly dire.

There is nothing next gen about it, it's nothing more than a multi player dungeon crawler.

I don't think this game should be mentioned in the same sentence as LoL or diablo. Those two games and companies are some of the best ever. Those games make vindictus look like a game design students final school project.

Just remember that the more mediocre games people accept the more mediocre games are going to be thrown at you. I don't want mediocre pointless grind type games. I want games with depth that actually build up to something.

If you like the game that's fine but don't go posting that it is the game everyone has been waiting for etc. It's a very small action game and far from what I was led to believe it was and turned out to be a major waste of time Dling it and trying to play it. Not to mention Nexon is a terrbile company, go take a look at their forums and you can see it is very poor.

Now if this game actually had 5-10 classes and decent character customization(not looks) a bigger world or places to fight and pvp it would be pretty sweet I imagine.

Phantasy star online was a similar game to this and it brought way more to the table in all aspects and the game came out in 2000. I mean come on!

This game was great absolutely wonderful until i found out the grouping system involved Peer 2 Peer downloading/uploading.  As opposed to connecting to their dedicated server.  Why anyone would do this is beyond me it's /facegrenade.

its fun, i dont feel the need to over analyze a game or guess about endgame content or how much i'll like in 3 years. play it and if you like it keep playing it, if you dont stop playing it....its a video game people and its supposed to be fun

Where are we going??? Why are we in this handbasket??

  • SkuzSkuz Member UncommonPosts: 1,018

This is a game that needs "fleshing out" a whole lot more, there's too little on offer with this title, hence the grinding, the lack of real character generation is taking away from the MMO genre not adding to it, this boils the title down to an online hack 'n slash game with too little depth.

    Next.

"What we all wanted" doesn't fit me at all.  I want an open sandboxy virtual world.  I don't care about 80% of what you mentioned, although it does sound great and I might try it out.  To me it is a little outside of the MMORPG department but that is just based on my interpretation.

Pretty much this. All I know is that this season I played several games and betas, including FFXIV and a lot of the recent F2P games and in the end the most fun I have had has been on Vindictus. How long does the fun last, I don't know. How's the end game? No idea. All I do know is that it's not crashed on me once, I've had 0 lag, the UI operates fluidly and I've managed to play it for 10 hours nonstop and still have the strong desire to log back on the next day. I can't say the same thing for LOTRO, FFXIV, or many of the other games I played as of recent. Does that make Vindictus more "in depth" or "better", no, but it's more fun currently and in the end that's all that matters. If I can dish out 50$ for a month of fun and be able to come back to the game constantly, that's worth the money.

Feels like people are still thinking of this as an MMORPG. It's not. Think of it as Diablo 2.5 with physics. If you think of it as such, you'll find it a lot more appealing. It's simple, it's grindy, there's a lot of farming. Quit looking for over complicated MMO features, it doesn't have them.

Who knows, maybe having an online simplistic hack and slash is just refreshing. No need to plan or over analyze, just double click an icon and go destroy stuff. Plus, the P2P system causes no issues. It may not be the best system, but it really has no noticeable impact. Guess I'll just go and feel thankful that I can enjoy this game. I feel sorry for people that cannot. T_T

It's a game with next generation "features", not necessarily a next gen mmorpg itself.

DevCAT always adds new features in pieces to test the water and to prepare for something bigger.  Wait for Mabinogi 2 (=vindictus + mabinogi), that game will be a blast.

Those spit on this game aren't just simple players.  There are special interest groups (developers, game store owners, marketing etc.)  roaming at this site.  They worry about their jobs and competitions.  A few are closet racists acting like they hate F2P but if they are forced, they'd tell you to play any crappy western F2P over good non-western ones.

So as long as you're happy with your game, why worry about others' opinions?  Games with new & nice features always help pushing the grenre ahead, and real game players would welcome them.

Exactly, it's F2P.   It's cash shop.  There is no such thing as a FREE mmorpg.  Some how, some way, someone is paying for that game.  Creating and maintaining a MMORPG isn't free.   Maybe not today or tomorrow, but one day you are going to run into the "wall" where you have to break out the wallet for either more content or items to be able to compete.   The fact is, PER CUSTOMER, a F2P game is more profitable per month to the devs than the $15 a month customer.  Why?  While the majority of your customers may not spend a dime in the cash shop, there are enough who will and spend stupid amounts of money to "be the best" that it makes it more profitable for you to run the cash shop than collect monthly subscription fees.

Look at EQ2, LOTRO, DDO... etc.  all F2P offerings right now.  What do they all have in common?  That F2P is extremely limited.  All this F2P tag line is for is an extended 10 day trial.   You are limited in character, content, or something... but to have full access to everything like the "VIPs" or what their "Premium" package is, you are breaking open the wallet.  If you don't, there is no way you can comment on the same playing field as the "big boys".

Enjoy the cash shops of your favorite F2P mmorpg, but I'll stick to my $15 a month variety.

Fear not fanbois, we are not trolls, let's take off your tin foil hat and learn what VAPORWARE is:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaporware

"Vaporware is a term used to describe a software or hardware product that is announced by a developer well in advance of release, but which then fails to emerge after having well exceeded the period of development time that was initially claimed or would normally be expected for the development cycle of a similar product."

HFJC, it's rather simple.  You may find it fun, but other people don't.  I came, I saw that they did some things amazingly well.  Really, really high quality action.  However, it plays like a console game with multi-player.  It was fun for a few minutes, then I had the urge to go do something else.

Like play Lotro, which I started a week ago.  While I was playing Vindictus, I kept wanting to go level, or convert more midis into songs I could play in-game, or explore the world, or any other number of things.

Bottomline is, it gets boring fast.

What about the awesome graphics even on completely low settings, great character animations, great combat animation. So is it because it is from South Korea or you few thinks the MT will be bad (P2W) from doing some research the item shop is just makeup and stuff, you cannot pay to win in Vindictus. Or, because South Korea is on another level in making these type of MMORPG/MMOG and most Americans not liking that "fact" wth is the deal seriously? This is like a dream come true for millions of people but most of you act like it is nothing new, bs... it is completely new technology  in MMO development (WAKE THE HELL UP AND ENJOY THE NEW GEN) because TERA, C9, B&S and Aion 3.0 is next on the list, peace. IF you few do not like what so many many gamers asked for, so what the hell do you few want as a MMORPG?

I cant play the game right now cause im in europe.

But i think this would be the first f2p mmo that will make success.

Gw2 is also Free but it's another story.Gw2 has Ncsoft for cash backup so they have no probs at all.

In my opinion Vindictus and Firefall will be the 2 true worth to play free mmos.

Time for This atlantica ttrash  to reach the bottom.I wonder why they have hyped this game so high. It's awkward!

    Hmm..not an MMO

    not next Gen

uses Half Life 2's engine..that was so what 10 years ago =P

And playing the same dog gamn map 50,000 is not fun.

Drop the next-gen marketing and people will argue if the game itself has merit.

  • LawlmonsterLawlmonster Member UncommonPosts: 1,085

As some others have pointed out, this title is a multiplayer game and not an MMORPG. This could have easily been released for console players, and in that medium they probably could have gotten away with calling it a massively multiplayer. People might have even thought it was some amazing, fresh experience when provided to them on their 360, or PS3, but for die hard computer MMO enthusiasts, this game is all flash and no substance. Hack and slash can be fun sometimes, and if this game's world was actually represented well outside of an instanced hub and individually instanced fights, they might have had something.

    1) It doesn't seem like an MMO at all

    2) It has a cash shop

I'm not very surprised a lot of people aren't interested in it.

boo won't let me download it to try it.

Edit- didn't think it was a mmorpg mentioning halflife2 engine..

This may not be my main game to play, but it definitely is something to cool off on after work or uni. Granted my main issue with the game is the latency or ping when in groups, but I have high hopes they will fix that later on. I do enjoy the simple mechanics they've added  in the game such as side missions, bonus objectives as to your main "quest".

Personally I don't see a major issue with the classes being gender lock, it seems to tie into the story and quite frankly  I don't mind playing as a female (even though I still have issues with the major jigglyness of certain things as they don't do that in real life, which makes for comedic happenings) . The gameplay is absolutely amazing, something that my friend and I have always wanted in an mmo, the ability to chain combos, block, grab, thow, the list goes on and on, and here they delivered so we are quite content. The graphics are stunning, I'm blown away from what they have been able to do with the source engine, the metal shine still impresses me every time I log in, though don't think that is their main selling point.

As for the item shop? It's just there to generate revenue, perhaps I might use it here and there to advance quicker or for some sort of cosmetic upgrade, but I don't see it hindering people's fun, more so enhancing it. I haven't announcement of pvp thus far so being the "best" on the server really doesn't hold much pride in that. Sure you may be the highest level with the best equipment and you can show off, but that's about it. People will carry on with their daily lives.

I still don't understand the animosity towards this game on not being able to choose male or female, to create your own avatar. People have created a standard or a template of what an MMORPG is, if you strip it down to the basics it is indeed a Massive Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game. There are a lot of players online, playing through the storyline that the devs have created, and you want a co-op experience just grab a few buddies, head over to a new channel in game and off you go.
