If EQ2X is any sort of an example of how $OE would convert SWG to F2P, there is no chance in Hades that I would bother. It would cost more in the long run for a lot less game.,,,the nickle and diming would be epic. The cash shop would completely devalue the crafting profession, as if it hasn't suffered enough already.
I just don't see $OE investing the resosurces to make this game go F2P.
You know, from reading on this site, you might think there had been millions of folks playing SWG before they "fixed" it: :P
The idea that they would mess with a successful game in such a fashion, just crazy:) Obviously they had huge problems, and yes, they may well have made them tons worse, but the game was not doing as well as some folks memory has it.
Now back to topic, No, i would not mess with F2P SWG or any other game that has a sub model to it. If you like and enjpy a game then pay the dang sub.
It is cheaper in the end, and all these horrid cash shop games need to go away. Doubt that they will though, but i really wish they would.
Probably not. But I WOULD pay $30 a month sub if they redid the game with AoC's graphics engine and spent a year or so fixing & adding all the mechanics that were initially supposed to be in-game then relaunched with the Pre-NGE ruleset + JTL. But yeah, we all know that ship's sailed.
Hell yeah I would, plus, if they actually started making some scrilla through the changeover they might start adding to the game like they used to. I'd be all for that.

I dont know. I played galaxies since 03 and I stopped 1 yr after NGE ( I gave up hope i suppose) . With the past year I updated and payed a 15 dollar sub for a month and started to play. 15 min later i logged and never logged back on. That was 1 dollar a minute to try the game out. I recon if it went FTP I would update and play again. I suppose it would be the same, I would log off 15 min later or less since its free and not play again. I do however think of time to time all the crap I have accumulated over time and think of all my pets (deeds) in my house since i have them from Being a Bio Engineer from pre nge. I hear they are worth alot now. I love the space combat, Shoot if they lowered it to 5 dollars a month just to use my slave 1 and xwing I would sub out. So I imagine Yea just for space I would play. Now thinking about it I might sub, but NOT!

I'd pay fifty bucks a month for that.
I pay 50 a month as well for that as long as it included a free server transfer. LoL its funny ... Sony is sitting on a gold mine and they keep chopping wood.

I didn't quit because of the fee, I quit because it wasn't fun anymore... I was willing to wrestle through the lousy interface because i was having fun. After that ceased, just no. Why suffer a bad interface on a bad game play experience? Getting a pile of crap for free is better than getting a pile of crap for money... marginally, you're still stuck with a pile of crap.
Maybe there is a .000001% chance this will happen if TOR messes up their TCG revenue but I think Smudlie would rather 'sunset' the game than admit defeat (which is what returning to 'classic' servers would be tantamount to).
From someone who played at launch and very little of the NGE, i went back to the other pre cu server and i will admit, even though it evoked some old fond memories, it was like watching paint dry.
The game back then just lacked any real SW content and it is just painful to look at compared to what is coming out in the near future.
Since the OP stated "pre-CU" in his post I doubt that I am the moron, as it seems you were the one that took the liberty to make an ignorant comparison. And as you so eloquently stated pre-CU was released before WOW (as the other poster stated who disagreed with your WOW-clone comment), which only furthers the arguments made that SWG is not a WOW-clone.
For the rest of us, SWG is pre-CU. What came after is a different game. That you assume for us SWG vets, that anything after NGE is also SWG, you fail.
So keep punching yourself in the face . . . its humorous.

I agree with this.
I think after it became generally accepted that SWG was a failure, the situation suddenly was not about the money.
If Smedley brought bacl a classic pre-NGE server he would be admitting that he was wrong to bring in the NGE in the first place. That would mean all the bonuses and wages he got from Sony since 2005 were misplaced - it would also mean that LA had been working with a partner that had seriously downgraded its revenue stream for five years. He'd never be able to survive in the job. And that's why they can never bring back classic SWG - to save Smedley's face.

He doesn't have to. Everyone knows (including himself) that NGE was a bad idea. Keeping NGE running does not prove the opposite...
I would return if it went F2P. Sure, I know the combat mechanics stink worse than a dead tauntaun, but I miss the atmosphere and ambience, especially on Tatooine. I'd just hang around there.

Honestly, I probably would give it a whirl.
Only if they had classic servers.

pre-cu/nge yes.
post-cu/nge no.

I'd happily pay $15/mo for swg pre-nge.

If SWG went F2P I'd definitely add it to my list of other f2p titles I enjoy and play it some.
Unless it was a Classic server with the original game setup, absolutely positively unequivocally NO never zero chance.
I hate the changes they made and could explode vile venomous words all over the screen about my thoughts on their NGE debacle.
Nope unless they open a pre-ncu server.

Gaming since Avalon Hill was making board games.
Played SWG, EVE, Fallen Earth, LOTRO, Rift, Vanguard, WoW, SWTOR, TSW, Tera
Tried Aoc, Aion, EQII, RoM, Vindictus, Darkfail, DDO, GW, PotBS
I agree with this.

Yup sure would.
I certainly would give it a try (never have) if it went F2P, always wondered what the game was like, even in its current faded state.

No. The subscription fee is not what keeps me away from the game. In any of its versions.
Since I could play this game anytime I want, for free (gave my main acct away to a friend that still plays) and don't, I am going with NO.
For me, this game is not worth my somewhat limited free time.
yes, probably.
