They're using peer-to-peer now?  They had a torrenting patch client during beta.

Anywho, you don't need to get the patch from the patcher if you don't want to.

  • grafhgrafh Member UncommonPosts: 320

this could be because people are using torrents to download the game instead of the official launcher. same thing happened in beta

358kbs? I only wish I would move past dial up...  I have a 30MBPS internet connection... and can't even download faster than dial up.. lovely

Reality of pretty much all MMOs for the first few days after release.  Set it off tonight and it'll probably be ready in the morning.

My question is why are they using peer to peer downloading to begin with? Have a server that dispatches the updates... Is it that complicated? To many ways for people to cheat peer to peer.

Orly? You know that the .torrent files have the trackers' info and since we are using the same .torrent files that are used on the official launcher then it doesn't matters which application you are using to download.. that's the same as saying that users on utorrent won't share/leech between other torrent applications..

Putting it simple.. it's Square-Enix's official launcher that stinks. :D It probably caps download/upload speeds.. GG S-E!

From what I understand about the technology peer-to-peer has gotten pretty standard now.  Blizzard's downloader is peer to peer so that pretty much legitimized it.  (Although Blizz's has gotten very efficient and much faster than SE's so far).  And just to note, torrent is a peer-to-peer technology too.  And it gets used so that companies can use the PCs of the people downloading to distribute to other players.  Those connections and upload speeds are showing how many people are connecting to your PC and taking parts of the game from it and how many other players PCs you are connecting to and getting parts of the game.  The SE servers just become other nodes in the peer-to-peer network.

Basically it reduces the amount of hardware and bandwidth game companies need to dedicate to downloads/patches.

Doh - 8 days access minus a day for patcher to seed enough and download's to complete, minus half a day tomorrow for World Maintenance, minus half a day for login server congestion. Minus half a day for ingame congestion lag to settle down.

1...2...3.4 carry the 2... that's more like 5-6 1/2 days of early access. *sigh* par for the MMO launch course hehe

You've just explained peer-to-peer but failed to mention that probably S-E caps download/upload speeds and the number of connections. That's why downloading through other peer-to-peer applications is faster than S-E's official launcher.

Im using the VUZE torrent client  to download the patchs as we speak then place them in the proper folder relaunch client it should t hen verify the download and install patch..shouldnt have to do it but until they fix that horrid torrent client they use best way to get the patchs.

Mine took just about an hour. I had big spikes over 800K but on the average it was 200K or so. Using a browser while it was patching took more than 1/3 off the rate, sometimes killing the DL altogether. I turned on the TV and just watched the patcher and all was well.

you can go to C:Users"Your Name"DocumentsMy GamesFINAL FANTASY XIVdownloadsffxiv

and get the 2 torrent file and use utorrent to download it

than Paste the .patch in the respective directory and then re-open the client to let it install the patches

  • papa4519papa4519 Member Posts: 33

i just did it take like 6mins

  • sungodrasungodra Member Posts: 1,376

Thank god I canceled my pre-order. I had this problem in beta and could not even get the game to ever finish downloading. Looks like they are still having the same problems and relying that people will download some torrent file.

Possibly capping them on their servers but the speeds you're seeing wouldn't be dependant just on SE.  You may not be getting any of the game from SE, you may be getting all the patch off of other players PCs so there's really no need for SE to cap speeds in the downloader that I can think of.  I think SE's downloader isn't a very good app.  At least not yet.  Maybe it will get better as they work with it.  Blizz's did.  But I swear SE's downloader is slower than the old eMule app I used years ago.
