If this wasn't a Final Fantasy game, there is no way that I would wait a full day to download a patcher on day one. This is literally taking longer than it would for me to download an entire game client for WoW. Yes, I said WoW, but seriously, wow,....a P2P patcher that is so horrible I have to wait around all day and still haven't been able to play the game? I am an avid gamer, so I know all of my internet works optimally. So I know the issue isn't on my end. I would figure that since I paid for the collectors edition copy to play 8 days early that I would get to play 8 days early. I am hoping at this point to be able to play some time before the standard edition launches. Considering that the collectors edition box really didn't give me anything other than the ability to play early. Lets go over the special edition content. A little notebook to put my hopes and dreams in, a security token & a DVD with bonus material on it. The only useful item within the box was the security token. The journal is meaningless and has little faded pictures along the borders, and the DVD is all little 5 minute clips that you can see right on their website, so the DVD was pretty much a waste of a circular piece of plastic. It was pretty much the most lackluster collectors edition of a game ever. I am glad to see that the box at least came with the game disk. In comparison when I got my Wrath of the Lich King special edition, that thing was crammed to the brim with goodies. In addition I got to play within the hour after installing that game. Where as with this game, I wish I got some bonus collectors items since I am still waiting around the whole day to play it. Instead I have the time to go on a forum and post about how annoying this launch has been for a highly anticipated game. At least I have a collectors edition journal to write in while I wait. My first entry...."Dear fairy God Mother, I wish that SE would make a decent patcher or at least throw me a freakin' bone and at least toss in something remotely interesting to their collectors edition box that I blew over %8- for.....

Really.
Your ports aren't opened if your download speeds are slow.
Using LOL is like saying "my argument sucks but I still want to disagree".
Only problem with launch, is that CE couldn't be digitally purchased, hence i'm waitin' for my Amazon parcel...
You're a Hardcore Survivor!
You not only survived the zombie apocalypse, but did it with style! Your mastery of zombie knowledge, survival tactics, and weaponry is nearly unmatched. Congratulations, for you are hardcore!

Well i dunno how it is for release, but for Beta it was the worst patcher in history... Mu Torrent fixed that pretty well tho, so no sweat.

There is practically no real difference between the two... Utorrent can limit your upload speed and opens the ports for you, and that's it pretty much.
With correct ports open, took me an hour to update. Same as with 99% of people.

I think you'll find for some (don't know how many, although suspect its a lot) simply opening up the ports doesn't improve things much. It didn't for me, yet with uTorrent I could patch in next to no time. Although admittedly I've not tried the live patcher, but I'd not expect it to be any different.
It's best to use the official SE client and updater. If it seems unbearably slow then it is probably a case of configuration, and poSsibly also that you just don't have very fast broadband connection.

Add that to the list of things they fixed. It ran as well as any other patcher I used. Got a continuous 500-700k dl speed

What the patcher does not open the ports it requires and close them after its done? /mindboggle
Maybe they should have made it ascii text and distributed it via usenet. of course you would need to manually UUDecode it but that would get round port issues and be really old school hardcore. Or maybe have the option to buy it on 5 1/4" floppy's too for those with router issues.
So far there are no problems whatsoever with registration, payment, login, character creation, crashes or lag. The game runs faster than the Open Beta, UI is about 10x faster, really snappy now.
Servers already hitting population limit and are expanded immediately within 10 minutes.
Cutscenes and scenery has been updated with additional effects and new scenes.
Hardware Mouse Cursor can be enabled.
Crafting has been improved.
Simply all major problems reported in OB have been addressed and fixed.
First Maintenance has been announced for Sep. 23, 2010 9:00 to 12:00 (PDT) in preparation for the weekend.
Crossing my fingers but so far i don't see anything bad happening.
Best MMORPG release so far. 10/10
does not the game launch on the 30th and this is the week in advance for those who purchased the collectors edition?
There is no need to configure Ports manually every time. If your Computer is UPNP-capable and remote control is not disabled the updater will configure it automatically but a friend doesnt have a upnp capable router it seems and had to open ports himself.
My Router which is from Netgear did not need any configuration made manually and the download was as fast as my connection allowed.

In that case maybe I should not have been quite sarcastic, still the old dinosaurs might find it amusing>
Looks like we jumped the gun a bit on declaring a flawless launch. Actually, the game is proving much more popular than they expected, actually causing such conjestion problems in places of the games that they've suspendied character generation across some of the more overpopulated servers.
Servers seem to be down until noon PST (the next 2 1/4 hours) for emergency maintence right now. Well, that's better than what I thought it was, an actual login server failure.
In any case, the hater's victory is bittersweet, as it seems the only reason the game's having a hard time is because of just how unexpectedly well it's doing. I seem to recall World of Warcraft having similar issues near launch.
Why? Why do people feel the need to constantly bash games they don't enjoy?
I saw the exact same thing with Aion. You simply can't post anything at all about the game without a multitude of people piping up about how the game is the worst, most grindtastic game they've ever played and is going to fail very, very soon. Now I'm seeing the same with FFXIV. Really, okay, we get it. Some of you don't like the games. That's fine. But please realize that some of us DO enjoy playing these games and find it really bothersome to constantly wade through the constant sea of negativity here on this forum. If you hate these games so much why are you ever here reading this board?
WOW, wasnt this just the CE pre orders who get to play today? Are you seriously counting that as a full blown launch and comparing it to other MMO's? How bout we see how they do on the REAL launch day, not the CE pre-launch date. You just earned your fanboi badge
this aint the real launch so this does not count .. and even if they did fix all the things from OB the game stil is lame and will fail when SWTOR , TERA , GW2 , and Rift all come out ..

It was implemented in phase 3.
Then how do you enable it? because I don't see translated text.
Whenever you type something, you can press tab to get a translation for the text. The chosen word gets translated to JP/FR/GR automatically.
It doesn't have every word in the history but it has all the necessary vocabulary. The more you learn about it the easier it becomes to use.

I haven't seen a single goldseller since I started the CE, which in my opinion is a huge improvement.
CE plus all the buddy keys
LMAO!!! Give it 8 days...
Aion hit server limits at launch, Aion now merging servers.
Doesn't take long for shallow games to fall where they belong.
I'm lol'ing at some of these comments saying that the game is still terrible, even though I bet they didn't purchase it after their reactions in beta.

Got to give it to the fans:) Ones that like this game sure do like it.
Ones that do not really do not as well. Have to wait and see. I think it will do OK, nothing special, but happy for those that are enjoying it:)
