All their resources went to implementing hardware mouse. Patcher issues will be fixed later I guess. Only took them all of alpha and beta to change the stupid mouse so I'm sure this will be dealt with just as swiftly.
Maybe it's the same mentality they have about tutorials? "fansites do them well" or something of that nature so they had crappy and limited ones ingame. Why make a good patcher? They will have mirrors up in no time! Lets save some money!
Grrr. Ok so I can never get past 14.9% to download. So I say F it and hit up that link ppl have been posting and the .rar file wont unzip using winzip. and when I use the other optional downloads from that link my updater doesn't recognize them and I'm putting them in the correct folder. Any suggestions?

I was v. similar, then I realised I actually wasn't putting them in the right folder (thoug I thought I was). Double check the second patch into:
C:Users"Your Name"DocumentsMy GamesFINAL FANTASY XIVdownloadsffxiv48eca647patchD2010.09.19.0000.patch
Also that you clear out the old patch that downloaded in here (may report as full sized).
I can't speak for the rar site as didn't get from there as looked hassle, just got from the megaupload site, and no trojans/viruses here. Others I know okay too, but I do have a ton of adblockers/blockers in browser that might have stopped them, plus anti-virus software on my PC and aware also.
ok so just so ya know I have two folders when I reach C;/users/name/documents/mygames/ffXIV/Downloads/FFXIV/
this is where it branches for me I then have folders 48eca647/patches or folder 2d2a390f/patches So far i've tried placing the patches in one then the other then even had them in both still when I start the updater I get to 14.9% freeze.

Okay, the smaller of the patches goes in the:
C:Users"Your Name"DocumentsMy GamesFINAL FANTASY XIVdownloadsffxiv2d2a390fpatchD2010.09.18.0000.patch
Whilst the larger one (400+ mb) goes in the:
C:Users'Your name'DocumentsMy GamesFINAL FANTASY XIVdownloadsffxiv48eca647patch
I didn't bother with the smaller one as that patches really quick as it's very small. I had to delete the current downloaded patch in the above folder however, which reported as being 400+ mb though it wasn't. Once i deleted that, and then copied/pasted the full patch into the folder and restarted the patcher all was good, patcher ran quickly and was in game within minutes... well after I'd subscribed etc.
Allow me to be the 'hater' that points out even f2p games have better patchers or means of updating their client.... I did a survey in OB to see how many people actually used the patcher to download the game and the results were pretty clear. FFXIV is still in beta guys and you are paying for it.
FFXIV release sometime in 2011 on PS3.
and i am perfectly ok with this.
At least by the time I am done patching they will have fixed most of the problems with the game. Unless... By the time im done patching the release an expansion which will only mean more patching AAAAHHH!!!!
Yes its that bad. No joke at one point patcher said 1 year and x days.
I think I finally got it. I was right about the point where I was gonna say to hell with it and just restart the updater every time it crashed till it would finally work, then low and behold it did something different and is now currently installing the updates.
Grr ok so now I got it patched up to date and everything. Logged in once watched the intro vidio was bliss. But then oh yea I have to actually activate character slots so it closed out on me so I could do so. Activated my slots whent to log back in now all i get is a black screan. Any ideas?
Maybe I just have better luck, I dunno. But Every MMO I've EVER played took an average of 4-6 hrs to patch the initial download through the patcher. And almost all of them, required me to restart the patcher several times to get it downloaded.
This isn't any worse. I started about 4pm, and I'm a 98.6% and it's 7:30. So, this is actually taking less time than WoW and EQII did when I first purchased them.
What worked for me, I would just restart the patcher several times. Let it sit, if it didn't start within 5-6 minutes, I'd restart it. After 2-3 times it would connect and i'd get a good chunk done.
Actually it just finished as I type so I wish you all the best. Patience It'll happen.
Anyone else got the Problem with uTorrent that the tracker says:
Failure: requested download is not authorized with this tracker
I had this in Beta already and never managed to use any torrent Downloader to get this torrent. Tried on two different PC's, with different ISPs and Ports for Torrent opened.
I can't open the ports for the FFXIV patcher at home because multiple people use the router, after 3 hours I'm still stuck at 0.6% while I'm uploading most of the time with like 90kb/s but download is at 0.
I'm trying the Megaupload links someone posted but for the future it would be nice to get the torrent to work somehow.
Mine timed out after about 15 minutes. Then after restarting it, it started with 0KB/s down saying it would take 9 hrs. Now 2 hrs later it is 92% finished and expects to finish in 40 minutes. Even blizzards patches after installing an expansion take about the same amount of time. I am not seeing what is unusual beyond that one timeout. No, it is not a great patcher and it does need to be improved but otherwise it all seems par for patching on release day.
The problem is that there are some people who are going to pick out *anything* - and I mean absolutely anything - to hang their complaints on, using all sorts of hyperbole, conjecture, generalizations and otherwise subjective statements to back it up as "proof". And of course any who disagree are going to be "clueless", "trolls", "fanbois".. etc.
If it's a minor complaint, they're going to invariably magnify it to sound like a huge deal.
In other words, we're seeing in the FFXIV forums exactly what every single MMORPG sees in theirs.
ToR will be no different.
Rifts will be no different.
Secret World will be no different.
and so on...
And in each case, those doing the most complaining will feel as though they're somehow doing or saying something unique or meaningful.
There's that saying "Haters gonna hate". Well, in the same context, "complainers gonna complain"... about anything and everything. If it wasn't the patcher, it would be something else.
... as for the patcher. It was running okay on my system... just not fast enough for my liking :-p. So I torrented it instead. It's a simple enough process and tends to get faster results.. so why not?

My ports are even opened. Everything on my side of the computer looks perfect.
Tried waiting like 30 mins, then tried again, waited about 20 minutes. GRRRR. FAIL UPDATER FAIL.
I've never had an issue with it, it looks like you may have opened the right ports but maybe in the wrong format UDP/TCP or made a human error, you should at least have some speed.
If you're computer savy you can always go into the FFXIV folder in your documents and run the torrent file to download the patch and just copy and paste the patch onto the placeholder that is in another subfolder within the same folder.
I wasn't even going through a router and the patcher still failed big time. I can understand maybe just under 2 hours to patch a new expansion in, but even a tiny little 5mb patch took forever with this fail of a patcher. Poorly implemented P2P. You si there with 0's on everything, and then you download half of the patch and then BAM! 0's again. wtf

Oh and beware one of the links from that site tried to infect me with a Trojan so good luck to ya's.

Sorry i did not read all 5 pages. Have you tryed to use a third party program like utorrent ? the folder is located in
C:Users[YourUSERNAME]DocumentsMy GamesFINAL FANTASY XIVdownloadsffxiv
there are 2 folders pic one go into the meta info folder and download the torrent place the downloaded file in the patch folder
Well since the patcher was slow and I was used to the fast utorrent patch in Beta, I used it here also.
I had everything downloaded while still busy with creating an account Less then 20 min. All files.
(I like to read everything when I know I will use billing information)
It looks like FFXIVCore had to remove the other thread they had which helped explain alternate methods of downloading and installing the patch.
It's been replaced with this thread, though they will not provide links to the patch files.
