A burned-out gamer, looking for a world to pass time in

GoronianGoronian Member Posts: 724

Hey, it's me, yet again. Almost seems like a traditon now - starting in this section of the forums, each time I return on MMORPG.com

So how you've been? Me? Well, mostly I quit MMOs for a good half a year, after the whole TPA fiasco. Did a little FFXI here and there, even tried WoW yet again... Nothing seemed to "click".

So, community, yet again, I ask you a simple question. What game should I look into?

I'll be frank, at this point I don't care about the style of the game - be it sandbox, themepark, PvP-oriented, raid-oriented - anything. All I want is to get immersed again, feel a part of the world, kind of... Explore, you know? Bottom line, I want a good group-oriened game, where it's still possible to get players together, even not in prime-time. Heavy instancing is not something I look forward too.

I wouldn't mind RP, as well. Lots and lots of juicy RP.

I don't mind F2Ps and P2Ps at that point. But if it's F2P, I'd prefer to be ablere to spend under 20 bucks a month and still stay competetive.

That's all, folks.

I hate WoW because it made my plush hamster kill himself, created twin clones of Hitler, punched Superboy Prime in reality, stared my dog down, spoiled my grandmother, assimilated me into the Borg, then made me into a real boy, just to make me a woman again.

Good luck with that, I'm in the same boat.. If you find one let me know too, mmk?  I'll just be playing Civ V until something come along.

Looking for the same. Straight exploration that is worth while just doesn't exist anymore. Goodluck with your search.

Everything is a big let down.

I've been trying everything that I can get a trial for, plus most of the f2p's.  So far, the three that grabbed me at all were Age of Conan, LOTRO, and Fallen Earth.

But honestly, Fallen Earth is the one that most feels like "home" to me.  It's a scrappy, often buggy, independent effort, but the exploration and crafting pay off for me (just made my first motorcycle!), the lore is interesting, the missions get repetitive but there are some gems in there, and the world just feels big and interesting.  Plus they are constantly improving it, even after the studio let a bunch of people go.

So that's what I'd suggest to pass the time.  Plus, there are a number of RP clans in there.

Should've mentioned it sooner, probably, but my PC can't really run it properly. Best I can hope for is AoC.

Well, I'm currently trying DarkFall out, since other games don't really appeal to me.

    Vanguard?

“It's unwise to pay too much, but it's worse to pay too little. When you pay too much, you lose a little money - that's all. When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything, because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot - it can't be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.”

I'm in the same  boat too.   I had subscribed to AOC  but got bored,   retried CO but got bored finally resubbed to COH  and played that for a few months  but   game is getting boring. I've tried almost everything out right  and  nothing really  appeals to me. I want to give  DCU  a try  but  still debating  on  it.

I think my biggest problem  is  I play mostly  during the night  when less people are on and I can never seem to find a guild  that  feels like home if u know what I mean  or maybe I just choose the wrong servers.

I feel the same way too now, I picked up FFXIV and it really wasn't worth it :( I guess with the right linkshell I could be enjoying that game, but I have yet to find one.

Right now I'm thinking of going back to WoW or Aion, leaning towards Aion though, cause in all honestly WTF is there to do in WoW?! No reason to start from one, not with cata so close. there aint crap to do at 80, just run the same stupid instances, which you dont need crap from anymore once your "geared" up.

Problem with Aion is, with out knowing anyone that plays it, I feel out of the loop, thrown into a world with no one to talk to and no one to game with.

I do hope I find something soon, some people are telling me to try out STO, but never seeing a single movie or episode of Star Trek, idk. I played in the beta for STO, just wasn't my thing.

At any rate, if you find something, let me know.

I have thought  too about playing Aion,  but  I have not heard the best things about  it. I'm not a WOW  hater,  but after trying it many times  I just cannot get into it. I downloaded  DDO  played for all of 30 mins  and deleted it. SW: TOR looks  good  but  I'm not sure about that one either.

As I'm  writing this I'm  downloading  Runes of Magic   going to give it another try.

TOR is one gigantic "meh". It's going to be a single player game, that you'll have to pay for monthly. Thanks, but no.

Just remember if you giving Darkfal a go, there is an Ex pack out in the next 2 weeks that will update gfx and player models. It will also update alot of the dungeons. Other stuff as well but no one knows all the stuff right now.

Dragon Age: Origins. I passed on it because it was a single player game but the fact is that it is a better game, regardless, than 99% of the MMORPGs out there.

Why not. it's been overhauled and had the majority of bugs fixed.

All it needs is a relaunch and some marketing and it has the potential to be one of the best game out atm.

Have you actually played Vanguard, if so when did you play it. Don't get trying it mixed up with playing it. If you have played, what did you actually do when you did play it.

The Path Ahead started there and we played for quite a while. I love the game, but there are too many bad memories - it needs time to sink in.

I'm sorry, but I don't like Dragon Age. Bioware lost it somwhere around KOTOR.

Then I would suggest Champions Online. It is basically a single player game, but a good one, and should keep you busy for the free month and by that time DC Online should be released.

Right, so you last played Vanguard around three years ago.

Making assumptions is a good thing, isn't it? No, we last played it the last winter.
