As the title says. I am curious to see what franchises everyone would like to see step up to the MMO plate these days. Include what aspects from your choices would work well in such an environment? Thank you in advance for your input.

There isn't a "right" or "wrong" way to play, if you want to use a screwdriver to put nails into wood, have at it, simply don't complain when the guy next to you with the hammer is doing it much better and easier. - Allein

"Using other people's Franchise" made me pause for a second. I assume you just mean IP? I may be being pedantic but to me it means for example basing an MMO off not say MacDonalds but off a company they've franchised it out to.
If you mean on IP then i'd have to say The Dragonriders of Pern, i would adore a world set in that universe as it was part of the fantasy reading material i grew up on. It has both the technological and fantasy aspects in it to be able to explain away game mechanics and perhaps appeal to both crowds plus what can i say, it's Anne McCaffrey so the lore is rich.
The same thing I say in every one of these weekly threads.
Firefly.

Mortal Engines. As I said in a previous thread, it's both a unique setting and would allow for some very interesting mechanics. I would make it a sandbox game.
And Cowboy Bebop. I haven't quite got round to watching Firefly yet, but I've heard it described as a "space western" which is pretty much exactly what Cowboy Bebop is. Anyway, done right (with both space and ground missions ofc) and with the same badass style and soundtrack it would keep me entertained for ages!
Always read the small print.
Philosophy of MMO Game Design
Another deja vu moment. Regardless, Blade Runner please.
"Come and have a look at what you could have won."
I could almost agree Hatter, but i've come to think of Firefly as something that just needs to be left as is. I didn't watch it until a year or two after they cancelled it but i go with the majority as in i loved it. Any remake now would kill it, i feel even an MMO would end up being a negative mark on the show. You know as much as anyone else that these things are never done right just for the MMO genre, i shudder to think of the possibilities of it being butchered.
Edit - ooh 400 posts, just call me Sloth.
I have always had a crazy craving for a good steampunk MMO.
Shadowrun.
Wheel of Time
Sword of Truth
Two tremendous IPs that have so much story and life to offer. Neither are truly "traditional" fantasy settings and have a unique flair. WoT specifically has been built into so many MU*s over the years that class and mechanics have already been trailblazed several times over.
Apparently there are both MMO and movies being done for Wheel of Time. I'd bet on the movie one being true rather than the MMO, but perhaps a bit of digging could find out more.
A proper brilliant looking and world capturing Pokémon one. That would be pretty ultimate.
Buffy/Charmed style - Vampires, Demons, Humans and w/e the hell else they make races... would be good for 3/4 faction split, also who wouldn't want to play as a customisable kick ass looking demon?
Transformice.
Earth's Children by Jean Auel. I'd love to see a MMO in the late Ice Age!
Anything that deals with the stories and settings of Jules Verne.. now that would rock!
jack vance
he made some crazy worlds
Discworld. (I know there's a MUD already, but I was thinking something with graphics)
Shadowrun (Everytime someone makes one of these threads, I have to throw that out there)
I am convinced there is only one way to eliminate these grave evils, namely through the establishment of a socialist economy, accompanied by an educational system which would be oriented toward social goals.
~Albert Einstein
A wire fame game would be cool!
MEO (sandbox nonpvp LOTRO)
GI Joe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Seriously the real GI Joe from the 80's that we all grew up on has so much to offer. Not this new crap the kids think is GI Joe. They got so much to work on and really it would boost sales for the merchandise.
Left 4 Dead.
The chronicles of narnia for me. Theres so much possibility there its untrue.
So many options for classes and races from animals to dwarfs, centaurs, fawns, humans etc.
And don't forgot, it has one of the best fantasy storys ever told thus, the storyline would be awesome. The setting could be unique also as it could be based in the real world and Narnia also.
I would love to see this game made:)
Hah. Simple
Harry Potter
This should be obvious. The books paved way for movies, and even an amusement park. JK built such a wonderful world. Is it so unreal for someone to sink their teeth into an MMO?
Naruto
Seriously, who doesn't want to be a ninja. There's a plot, time, and story behind this. You can be dropped right in, defend your village, and save the world.
Halo
Why not. They were already in progress of it, but cancelled it. I would have loved if it was a lot like planetside.
Think, about all these ideas. The best way to tell if you have a story that works is if: You can be dropped right into the middle of them. Not only that, it has potential for longevity. Then again, any MMO done right can do both.
Played - M59, EQOA, EQ, EQ2, PS, SWG[Favorite], DAoC, UO, RS, MXO, CoH/CoV, TR, FFXI, FoM, WoW, Eve, Rift, SWTOR, TSW.
Playing - PS2, AoW, GW2
I guess a Xena MMORPG could be considered.
Xena mixes the stories of many different times, so you meet the old greek gods, caesar, gengis khan (or how you write that one in english) and so on.
Could be fun.
But really, it matters more HOW the stuff is implemented then WHAT.
For example, AoC could have been an uber game, except the implementors prefered to make it some kind of shooter MMO.
LotoRO ... well ok, its VERY hard to motivate me to play any LotR game. Still if they would have decided to try something more hardcore than a WoW clone. Well, it never happened.
SWTOR looks like a good try. We'll see if it works.
Barney online. i can't believe that hasn't been done already.
but seriously, i would like to see a Megaman MMORPG.
Shadowrun would be good. It was a pretty good PnP game and with today's tech, it could be an awesome game. WoT would be another game that might be good, but if it were anything like the PC game of a few years back, I'd rather they leave Robert Jordan's vision alone.
This might be in the works, but none the less. Elder Scrolls Online, though only if in making the game an MMO it loses nothing from what it would be as a single player game... would be really hard to get this right but I could see myself really getting into this. Course it would be sandbox and full loot pvp with combat like the single player games.
So my answer I guess is anElder Scrolls version of Darkfall but with a skill cap and just done better as a whole.
