Bah, let them power-level, become too high too quick, and if they do get bored, they will just quit WoW.
Most members of Bad Bwoyz (my friend's friends guild that I'm part of) are already at level 30+ since they've been playing since launch. They seem to still be having a time of their life playing WoW.
I only started last week. So if I can reach Level 30 and keep having fun, then that's great.
But you're asking why do people power-level? Cause they have no life. Sorry but it's true. Their excuse is cause they are "Competitive". I'm sorry but if you spend all your days just playing a video game then that's freaking sad. Go out, do other stuff with your life, there's more to life than just staying home playing video games all the time.
They are roleplaying to be competitive. In real life if you work out, become strong and end up becoming a professional athlete and are better than everyone because of all the time you've spent working out. Yes, you did a great thing. But for games... you're sitting on your chair all day long just playing video games to roleplay that you are stronger than everyone else. No offence to those that do this, but I do find those that brag about it rather pathetic.

i'm lvl 25 tauren shaman, i would be alittle higher, but i work and go outside(only to drink and fornicate)
people lvl so fast cuz they know all the locations and shit- i get lost and confused ALOT, but once i find some shit, i'm good
like in the open beta i got to lvl 17 in a couple of days and time for retail i was prepared to get to 15, they took like a day or 2 cuz i knew where all that beginner shit was, but after that i'm a noob=)
I'm currently lvl 15, but have maxed Fishing, Cooking am an expert skinner and 100 lvl leatherworker. I'm playing strictly solo on this first character, as a test to see how far I can go and whatnot. Lotta fun and have been making pretty good money and upgraded all my equipment so far. Unfortunately I cannot play 7 hrs a day, but I'm taking my time to see everything possible.

And starting to work on your tradeskills at a high level just makes it easier.. buy out AH and ninja all the resource nodes from the lowbies.

I'm level 45. It's easy to get levels.
You don't really miss quests because it's much faster to level by doing quests than just grinding on mobs all day.
Personally i don't care if people level faster then other. I play in MMORPG's to get to know people, not to compete against others.
