I have a piece of junk HP computer and I run this game fine at 1440x900, 2xAA, standard shadows, and standard textures. It's easily the best looking MMO ever created. The patcher worked fine for me after I forwarded the ports that it was using. Was running around 800 kbps. It took about an hour to patch.
The only thing not stock is the card, and it's not even a great card. Honestly, I expected my system to chug... bad, but it's fine so long as I don't turn everything on high.
AMD 9500 Quad core @ 2.2ghz
3 gb ram
32bit win7
GTS250
The game has a long ways to go before it's ready for mass consumption in my opinion, but as far as general performance goes I think it's fine. Gameplay... yeah some work to do there, but I'm managing to find some fun in XIV.
Why do you need external sites to give you a torrent file to diwload the h patch when the patcher had alredy done it? Go to your documents folder, my games, ffxiv . Eventually youll arrive at a folder with two folders named with numbers. First one its the folder to the patcher patches. Second one is the game patches. Open it, two folders, one named metainfo, one named patch. The patch one is where you put the patch after downloading it. Inside the metainfo one you have the torrent file you need to download the patch. For it to becreated youstart the game, when a patch its necesary, the game create the torrent there. After its created, you close the patcher and doubleclick on the torrent and you torrent client download it without the need for an external site to give you a link. Then you put the downloaded file in the patch folder and start the game to patch it
so anyway... as i explained previously i bought a new card (SAPHIRE RADEON HD 5770) and the game ran... ok... even on mid-low settings it does look fab and when out of the main built areas there is little to no lag....
I have reached a far worse problem....
I turned on my pc after work yesterday.... and it read "No signal" on both monitors...
strange i thought.. anyway i turned off and on a few times without any luck.
I unplugged and plugged the card back in and it worked.. although i had to resetup all my graphic options as it had reverted to mirroring my monitors.
Today i get in after an overly long day... same thing happens... only this time after an hour I still cant get the bloody thing to work.
I search forums from my phone... with strange solutions like "change your cable" and "use a different DVI adaptor" - I try all of these things but NOTHING works...
I even try taking out my ram and having everything unplugged and starting it up that way.
Nope, still no joy...
In the end I think.. well this is the clean version of what I thought "oh well lets just put in the old card for now so i can at least watch a couple of episodes of house" - no signal...
I try different cables on different settings going into different monitors....
NOTHING.
So now BOTH of my cards don't work. The lights come on, the fans spin, but there's noboday home.
I've spent the last 2 hours fiddling... I can't see anything... one of the suggestions i couldn't do was changing a BIOS setting... but there is no signal so i can't see to get there...
I am furious.
I'd rather have a system that I couldn't play FF on but everything else works, than a system that everything works on.... apart from the graphics.
Any suggestions on what I can do?
(in regards to the FF tips, the hardware mouse worked, and when out of the built up areas there was little to no lag)

I don't know why the OP's computer couldn't run this game having told us his PC's specs, my laptop which has lower specs than his can run this game on high but I put it at mid settings to increase framerate when im in town but otherwise it runs good.

Sounds like an unhappy motherboard.
Just on the off chance , are you playing the game on an xbox or ps3 controler using DS3tool and added the uncertifide drivers, cus i had the same problem with my new card, everytime i unplugged or tuned of the ps3 controler next thing i now my monitor went into a spasam, and then i couldnt get a video connection, uninstalled ds3tool and drivers and its working 100% again

yeah, the new graphics card sorted the issue though... till the motherboard died...

nope, keyboard and mouse ftw
although i do have a usb adaptor to plug in PS2 controllers, but i am not activly using it...
completly blank from the moment i boot up
i suppose the issue i have is now gone from FF to the higher realm of motherboard issues
I would like to know if the new video card caused the issue or if it was going to die regardless of me getting the new card...
guess i will never find out now...

My system's more recent. I have 12 gigs of ram, 2 gtx 295, 2.9ghz quadcore i7 processor and had poor performance with the game at anything over midrange settings. It's not the rigs that are the issue, it's poor hardware optimization in the game's graphic's engine. I installed the game to my solid state drive in an attempt to ease it but that didn't help either. It's just sloppily coded. That said, it still looked great with the midrange settings.
You're ether flat out lying or you have some issues with yourt setup... I run Win7 64, 12 gigs of ram, 2.93 ghx i7 940 with _1_ 295 GTX (so basically identical except I have 1 less 295 GTX) and I run it at 1900x1200, 4x aa and everything but shadows (shadows set to low) on high/highest and I have no issues with graphic performance.
I have my issues with the game like most people but there are a lot of people lying and or going out of their way to trash the game because they don't like it and its really kinda stupid.
Ive got a crap set up Athelon 64 5000+ 2.8gz, 4gb ddr2 and hd 5770 and game runs ok for me with graphics maxed, did have them set to low and had everything set to app only on gfx card but didnt really notice any diffrence in proformance, just hurt my eyes, so put aa and af ect back on max in gfx card and still get the same fps, Dont get me wrong its not brilliant but its playable.
I get between 20 - 50 fps depending on where i am, In citys it drops to about 10 - 20 and sometimes takes a few secounds for toons and npcs to pop up but thats not a problem, solo hunting i get betwwen 35 - 50 fps and in small camps i get around 20 - 40 fps.
Dunno if it was the server i was on last but i couldnt get above 20 fps and i was rubber banding. Then found out a freind was playing game so decided to reroll to Bodhum and it really inproved the proformance.
I keep reading in the diffrent forums about the proformance issues

from other forums there seems to be a problem with dual GPU's and FF, so if you take one out you "could" get better performance.
AS my PC died, a friend brought his round just to see how it would run on his:
intel 8500 3.16ghz
Radeon HD 5970
4 gig 1066mhz ram we have been waiting almost 2 hours for the stupid thing to patch..
this is the WORST patching system ever
