Bugs and problems I've saw in beta test was enough not to buy release. But, since last beta client == release client, I'd like to add some comments.
1. Slow loading and zoning. Did you noticed, that client stores all its data in individual files. Like zillion of them. Took a long time even to erase them all.No resource packs. Only this, usually slowdown data loading in 5-7 times. Sometimes more.
2. Incredibly laggy graphics. What engine SE use? Their own? Written on visual basic? When Vanguard was released everyone called its graphics slow and too demanding. But after upgrading PC to near top-end of that time one was able to fix the problem and run the game almost smoothly. Here we see reports from people with top rigs, that game run same slow. So the engine is not “too demanding”. Its just slow.
3. It seems to me that SE developers were a new MMO team (I’d say noob team), because they hit most of well known MMO problems.
-“Ten man chasing one rat in a newbie zone”. That’s a problem, witch usually getting solved by starting zone instancing, or non aggressive mobs heavy population and respawn rate in many games for many years.
-“Err, where are mobs to kill, and where should I go at all?”. Absolutely non friendly game start. In Everquest, players, who do start inside a city, had similar problems. But that was more then 10 years ago. Since then, most if not all games have new player starting in “newbie zone”, with non aggressive mobs around, and some NPC to tell them, what to do.
4. Interface. Can’t redefine hotkeys. More then that, most hotkeys, for majority of necessary actions do not exist at all. Where is drag & drop? How I can take off a hat from my char to see how it looks or equip a new item? Why the hell I can unequip some armor, but can’t take weapon off?! This list can take pages long. It’s not usable interface.
I really do not understand why it’s so hard to copy good interface. If you making one for Western market – take any successful MMO and copy majority of interface features. If I use any program, like text editor, they do most common things same way, like “ctrl-v” is paste everywhere. Why MMOs can’t do same?
5. Terminology. Some of games like to use world “group”, others use “party”, and for role play reasons Lotro use world “fellowship”. But they all call quest – “quest”. WTF is “guildleve” or how it called exactly? Making game mechanics complicated at start is not a good idea.
Even if I stop here, I’m sure this list could be much longer.
I really do not understand why well known company that made very famous game serial “Final Fantasy” released such badly designed and unfinished product?
Comments
Dont stop. Please continue with the list, I would like to know more, srsly.
Why all you are going to get from him is ranting; he has nothing to say and took a very round about way to say nothing so his "much speak" looked like something. If you don't like the game fine, but stop coming up with asinine reasons as to why the game is bad. It just will not work anymore.

I could now easily write to each argument a counter argument and explain why you are aside of the spawn case in each point totally wrong. The only problem is 10 otehr would than complain again and support the opener, than again 10 would argument against this and so on. To make this waste of time shorter:
Group A: I hate the game it is worst in history and I can make way better game in sleep.
Group B: The game is not for everyone, you like it or like it not and tehre are sure some things to improve.
Group C: It is the best since toasted bread.
Than A,B,C fill 10 Pages where no group changes the opinion.
So can the Thread now be closed?
Look, he has valid points, even though he is being a bit vague in key points in his post.
The game just isn't finished, and no amount of fanboyism is going to change that. I don't think anyone with a clear head really has a doubt about this anymore. It's all a question of whether or not it's playable enough to wait for them to finish the game, or if it's better to just wait it out and let them flesh out the content a bit more like they did w/ FFXI.
This thread isn't nothing new.
BTW - OP; SE isn't a new development team (well, not that new). But they certaintly don't seem to be the brightest. They are surviving on a base of extremely rabid fans who will do anything for this franchise. They are basically using that to generate revenue while they work on finishing the game. Because of the following they have, it works, but it's not very effective for bringing in new fans.
No! Something that sane might cause the internet to crash; which could rip a hole in the space time continuum. Trust me you don't want that; the results would be catastrophic! In the end we might have to go back to writing letters to the Newspaper to vent our frustrations. This would only lead to mass panic as people would have to relearn how to use proper English, because no self respecting editor would print the illegible muck that is the average forum post.

"But than the circle started again..." hmmm ok not exact accurate quote but it fits.
Edit:
Oh to the post above, ok in the end it all comes down to that ultimate law:

Ah now the right one.
Why do they sell it? Because it is a great design, a ton of people are loving it, and it's selling like crazy. Seems like pretty good reasons to me!
sounds to me like you want a clone of other mmorpgs.....go back to your clone then
The only thing SE can do now to redeem themselves in the MMO market would be to put the game back into development (WHERE IT BELONGS), and let everyone play it for FREE during this time. Its bad enough that they are taking people's money for a product that they know is not complete. Kinda similar to the $40 I paid on GT prologue so they could continue development.
And everyone needs to stop crying about how people just dont like this because its "hard" or its not a "wow clone". The game sucks. Poor hardware, and poor features. There is a reason why WOW, and EQ did so well, and even EQ2 has made it so far. Its great to try to go against the mold, but not at the expense of utter crap.
If the game isnt finished then so be it. I am not sure what their final outcome was suppose to be for the game to begin with. What are you comparing it to when you say it is incomplete?? Dont tell me you comparing it to other games and just because it dont have their features you deeming it incomplete? Maybe I am lost but..... I like the game, regardless.
Sometimes trying to go against the mold instantly kills the game.
Well it is a shame that the servers are filling up faster than they can expand them; I really thought this was going to be a good game, but since people are actually playing it all I can say is it is DOOMED!!!!!!!.............

You're absolutely right. We should forget this game and go play one of those finished MMOs instead.
Oh, wait...
What's wrong with playing a finished MMO?
I really have no idea what Dreamscaper was trying to get by posting this, but speaking on my behalf here, I will say that generally speaking, being vocal is the best thing you can do when you feel something isn't up to par. Nothing gets fixed if you don't. And, as they say. Vote with your wallet. Continuing to throw money at a game isn't going to make it better. Constructive criticism; however, will.

The game is very Old-School, which is one of the reasons I like it. You can babble and cry and talk about how the game isn't any good, but I like it. Your opinion is that the game is no good, fine, don't play it. My opinion is that you and your ilk are totally in the dark about what a good MMO is like anyway so why would I be concerned about your opinion of it?
When you pay $75 bucks for a game, when you are told by the devs that the problems would be fixed in a patch...then yeah we get the right to bitch a bit.
Playing devil's advocate here. They did say it would be fixed in a patch. They just didn't say Which one.

And thats perfectly fine, Im giving them 28 days to fix it.
The nice thing about FFXIV is the problems are all easily fixed. They have a great game here that could be fairly competitive and is graphically gorgeous...they just need to fix the few glaring issues.

More importantly, why do people buy it?
I applaud S-E for trying something new. Even though FF13 was anything but a success, I still have to give them props for trying; however, when you enter the MMORPG market, you can't take big risks.. Unlike PS3 games where you can buy them, and if you don't like them, put them on a shelf somewhere, MMORPGs require an active subscription.
Just by the design alone, it appears that S-E isn't interested in revolutionizing the MMORPG Genre, so my question is.. Why bother? Why bother with FF14 at all if it's basically like every other MMORPG on the market, and even more so like a MMORPG you already have released?
"But Tails! You can be every class!"
You could be every class in FFXI, too.
"But Tails! It's more Solo friendly!"
FFXI was made more solo friendly, too. Just took many years =P
"But Tails! You can mix and match skills from other jobs and make interesting class combinations!"
So? Eventually everyone will have every skill. The only difference is your attribute points.

Well, we've heard most of those complaints a hundred times before, but the terminology complaint is a relatively new one. It seems, not only does a game have to play like the ones you're already used to, but the content within that game has to be referred to by the same labels as well, in order for something not to be a design failure.
I don't know, user friendliness is all well and good, but I like to think the point of playing games is that you apply yourself developing something new.
My point was that no MMO is ever finished, FFXIV included. And most have issues on release - WoW had servers dying left and right, AoC launched missing half the game, Warhammer stripped out entire cities, City of Heroes was missing the last ten levels it was supposed to have, Aion launched without any protection against bots/spammers, etc. And now, with the exception of Warhammer (which I don't keep up with, so I could be wrong), they're all doing fine. FFXIV is the same. The game isn't even really released yet, so over the course of the next few months I fully expect a fair number of its problems to be fixed.
That one made me laugh as well. It amazes me how far people are stretching to declare this game a failure.

I dont think it has much to do with being a failure...sure...there are some rabid folks who are legit just trolling to try and make the game look bad.
However, you do also have to realize there are some like myself who are currently playing, but not happy with certain things, while we dont think the game is a "failure" so to speak, we arent happy with the way it is in its current form.
ATM Im just a disgruntled player hoping to get my opinion out there so they can change some things.
