Is there actually anything to do in this game?

VarnyVarny Member Posts: 765

I'm at like level 6 and can't find anything to do and the map doesn't tell you anything, nore do the NPCs give you a clue to what they are. Frigging can't find any quests and all the GL have run out and grinding is so boring with the slow combat it takes all year.

Bored and if there is truly nothing then I'm uninstalling.

crafting and gathering is 1/2 of the game. If you're only interested in combat you're going to get bored.

That said the game in its current state is kind of a skeleton. FFXI was actually this way on the japanese release. Expect lots of content leading up to the PS3 release (which is the "true" release of this game).

I know I preordered the game cause it is the only MMO this year (sad state of the genre) and got to play the beta and it was horrible. I knew the game would be like that at launch cause every game in open beta never changes. I dunno why I didn't cancel but as an MMO player I've been bored since 2005 when SWG got ruined. Got playing it again and yup the game still blows.

i know how you feel back there, it the same sentiment from me too. i got a chance to test the game in OBT for almost two weeks. i believed nothing change from OBT to CE headstart. Shall wait for 1-3 months and further review this game before spending my previous $79 bucks. you should too...

What's surprising is the OP (and apparently several others) knew exactly what this game was about (or should have if they'd regularly been visiting these forums) yet still went ahead and bought it.

Yes the sad truth is that you will be uninstalling.

FFXIV was IMHO a boat full of fail.

Many contents in the game require certain conditions for example behest and faction leves. All of them are already existed in the game. You will need to figure out what triggered them.

If you are the "follower" type of players like most complainer here then just simply wait for the JP players or someone else to find them out and post on the Internet then follow their guides.

I know the semi-hidden nature of the game (quite similar to FFXI actually) will turn off many people but it's just SE style. It was also like that in FFXI

There are several things that you aren't accounting for here.

    1. This isn't a quest-based game. You won't be jumping from npc to npc to pick up quests.

    2. Crafting and gather are half the game. If you don't participate in them your progress is going to be severely hampered.

    3. Though more solo-friendly than FFXI, this is still a game best enjoyed in a group

    4. You're restricted to 8 leves per day - use them wisely.

Here's how I make the most of my gaming time. Go to your preferred leve pickup location. Pick up eight leves: 2 crafting, 2 gathering, 4 combat. The first four non-combat can be done during downtime, either before or after. Now, grab a friend or three (I've found that three seems to be the perfect number - one melee, one ranged, one support) from your linkshell (you do have one, right?) and head to the camp and adjust the difficult to three or four. You now have at least 12 combat leves to work on total, all of which should yield good xp and gil. Sure, these can be solo'd, but they're far more fun and far more efficient if you're in a small group.

This should give you at least a few hours of content each day. Also, as you level up, you'll also open up new portions of the main questline, which will help.

Heh. Are you saying that it takes a person with terrible judgement to buy this game?

Well, to uninstall it is your decision, but anyway at lvl 15 there will be still nothing to do. Except if Guild leve is what you are looking for as a mmorpg content LOL.

Funcom has invented the dungeon instances with Anarchy Online. SE has invented the instanced mob with their Guild leve. The first one was a success and has an impact on all the "genre", the second will be forgotten very very quickly.

hehe, i'm just amazed that after a decade + of mmo launches peopel still hand over  cash for a chance to play at release THEN complain the game "sucks".

Why do these people buy games assuming that the game WILL be awesome? Why do they, after countless releases expecting "miracle content patches for live" expect the game to be transformed the day it goes live?

If you're starving and only have $80 you don't walk into a 5 star restuarant and order the most expensive thing on the menu, without looking, on the basis that it must be nice. Sure it will be well presented, but if you hate beef and it's a beef dish you've wased your money.

Those people always made my head hurt...

The ones who complained all through beta that the game sucks and then complain at launch that they wasted their money on the game (specially a CE) always cause my brain to cramp when I try to figure out what they were thinking. I mean I have seen a lot of people doing this more and more each release. And while I know there are a lot of those people who only claim to have bought it just so their 'omfg this sucks' sounds even more convincing, I know that there are also people who really did buy it after hating the game the whole time it was in playable development (betas), and those are the ones who confuse me the most.

I mean its like someone offering you a sammich for free. If you bit into it and it tastes like dog crap, would you honestly pay for another of the same sammich?

There are 3 types of people in the world.
1.) Those who make things happen
2.) Those who watch things happen
3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"

No, actually the game is in a pretty good state, and while it may not be for you, a lot are playing and progressing. Things such as game economics takes time to develop. Believe it or not putting your time in now to the crafting/gathering aspects to the game will probably pay off big time, especially when SE start to add-in end game content. Yes, I also agree with the point that more content will be ready for PS3 release and console levelling game. The leve system really balances the game up for the casual and semi-casual players, though, no mob camping will stop you from playing, and you can solo progress and get through the story arc no problems.

In my opinion if March 2011 and the PS3 release is the "true" release of the game then SE is a bunch of money grabbing fools. I've been playing the game and though I like it I have to admit there really isn't a lot to do in the game. Crafting is so bonked its not even funny, seriously they don't even have the recpies in the game you have to go to the loadstone webpage to get them.

I love the game so far but the economy and crafting are really killing it for me. I've yet to craft anything useful in the game and if you don't want to craft then the crafters will bleed you dry for your hard earned gil. So far the crafters are selling their equipment for at least 5-10x what the real worth should be for 1-10 crafted equipment. If an adventurer makes 400 gil in one leave quest and you can take 8 a day that means they make 2400 a day. So why is it a lev 1-10 bit of armor costs 20,000 gil, or a shield for a tank costs 15,000-20,000 gil. Its not cool seriously.

I love the game and I hope SE dosn't wait to long to add in some worth while content. I'm tired of developers selling me half finished games. Thats like buying a have cooked meal.
