The Broken Security Token Thread (invalid codes)

udinthrikudinthrik Member UncommonPosts: 73

Basically some security tokens are bad, they show invalid codes, and once you register them to your square enix account your locked out of the account because none of the one-time passwords will work because they are invalid for the serial number registered.

some people on those threads are just doing it wrong, but their are genuine cases of people who know they are doing everything right, and I am one of those people. I've had this issue since the 22nd, and have made sure I am doing everything correct.

I have tried email support, never answered in 4 days.

I tried chat support, they told me I had to call phone support for this issue.

I called phone support, they told me their was nothing they could do. I asked if they could disable one time password in my account settings and they refused. I asked to be elevated to the next tier in phone support and they refused, stating that they can not elevate to the next tier with issues that are possibly user error....  I'm pretty sure I just got blown off due to support being hammered, so I'm going to try again monday. Ill post an update if I get this fixed, but in the meantime.....

Has ANYONE had this problem and resolved it?

UPDATE:::

Today I called support and did't have to wait in line at all, it put me right through. It was suprisingly easy to fix this time. I guess I just had a cranky guy the other day lol.

so if your having this issue,

1: make a support ticket, save the number

2: call support, choose final fantasy, account, other. (cant remember the numbers)

3: they ask for your ticket number, review it, verify you have a security token registered.

4: they ask to verify your account name, email and birth day

5: then they say they can disable the security token but it will be completly useless after doing so.

hope this helps someone...

Very strange!  When you register it you have to enter both the code on the back and the digital code on the front.  So if you registered it and it accepted it then how is it possible there is human error? If you had made a mistake then it would have refused your codes when you registered it...

I would expand your internet searches on the issue to include the WoW Authenticator.  If these Digipass devices are having issues WoW uses the exact same ones.  You can also see if the people at www.vasco.com can help as they are the manufacturer of these devices.

As a side note that was slightly annoying but understandable, apparently these little buggers can only be used on one account.  I have an authenticator for my StarCraft account and the same one can't be used for the FFXIV account.  Also, we have 2 accounts with FFXIV and the same one can not be used for both accounts.  The balance between security and ease of use is tough!

Best luck man, oh, and sucks to be you!  ; )

I just had a thought...  they have an iPhone app for the WoW authenticator and since its the same thing... IF that worked by you typing in the code on the back and then the phone generates your code then maybe you could try that and see if the app would come up with a good code.  If it comes with its own serial code then that just won't work either...

I don't have an iPhone or a smart phone (the app is for those too) so I have no first hand with that program.

You'd have to hack the iPhone app to do it. There guides out there how to do it, but I don't know off the top of my head.

This happened to me (see my post on the launch day). It meant my main collector edition licence code got locked to an account I'm unable to use. I've ended up using my own Buddy Key and had to setup a new account. In the end I've stopped playing it now. Might come back in few months.

Worth to note that there is no difference between a buddykey and a normal collectors edition except the items. Both come with 30 days free play.. Feels like a waste of money, total bad advertising as you get nothing special.

    Play: -
Played: FFXIV, WAR, Allods, Aion, AoC, DDO, EQ2, GW, Lotro, Tabula Rasa, Vanguard, WoW

Sorry to hear your having issues with it. Unfortently I imagine you are going to have to jump through a fair number of hoops to get them to remove the one time password (if they even can). The whole ideal of having this extra layer of security is to keep people from hacking / getting others accounts. If it was as easy as calling up and saying you are having a problem with it (in order to get them to remove it) then whats the point of even having that extra layer of security?

I hope you the best in getting the issue corrected, just remember that Square Enix's Customer service is outsourced to another company and they do have limits on what they can and can not do with accounts.

Meh, the token is just a random password generator for the account.  If you are able to supply all the details for the account then they can take it off (just like giving you your id and password).  And by all details I mean:

      1. Full Name

      2. Complete mailing address

      3. Birth date

      4. Phone Number

      5. All registration codes

      6. Email address

      7. Registration Date

      8. Character Names

      9. Credit Card (First 4 and Last 4 digits)

You'll also need your authenticator serial number.
