Was tossing this question around with some friends the other night while doing some gaming, and was surprised where I landed with this question. Once upon a time, I liked the SWG idea, and the setting, but in time it was almost a handicap, because you never felt you had influence on the game. Kill Darth Vader or the Emperor? Aint happening, right?
For me, KotoR opened up the Old Republic, and made it interesting, and frankly I think that Bioware tells a better story that George Lucas has (at least post ESB), I'm more interested in exploring the Old Republic world. The problem for me with the post ANH world is that there were, for me at least, a ton of hack writers who butchered the world, told uninteresting stories, or stories that had to be retconned, or "adjusted" to fit with the way Lucas made 1-3. I guess "the future" of the Star Wars universe is far less facinating than its past to me at least.
Granted Bioware had already ventured into The Old Republic Era, but at this "late" date, anyone else feel that they made the "right" choice, and that this world to be infinitely more enjoyable to explore, than had they chosen the other settings?
Heh, kinda just wanted a non-negative thread going on in the forum for once!

I like the idea of the old republic era... as this is before any worlds... were destroyed. So we could have more world options. You still have a presence of Mandalorians, and Sith, in some forms. You still have plenty of Jedi, and although some worlds weren't discovered yet, I think it would still be my preferred Era of choice.
Heh, I can relate to wishing for more non-negative threads on forum
I opted the TOR era, but a good second choice would be post-RotJ: a lot of interesting stuff going on with the rebuilding of the Jedi Order, Admiral Thrawn, Luke going Dark side etc.
If the 2nd trilogy hadn't been made I would have opted the Clone Wars era, it was certainly a very interesting time with a lot of things happening. But I like it how there's a lot to discover and unknown to explore in the universe of Star Wars as it is in the TOR era.

You know...if this was a "social experiment" I'd have wondered about other stuff. For instance is your opinion influenced by any Star Wars books you might have read, or if you watch the History Channel and so on....
I did the first Thrawn trilogy, and enjoyed the characters, but I never gave more than a cursory look to many of the post Return of the Jedi area works. I think I picked up a few that I did not like, and then just gave up on 'em. Recently, I picked up Outbound Flight, and kind of liked how Zahn introduced and used his characters. That being said, since I loved KotoR, I'm kind of interested in the roots, and history of the "universe". Its definitely interesting to see how the events between periods are envisioned, and it does make me interested in seeing how things are in TOR. For example, there was a brief segment and some commentary on Tython in the 2nd book of the Darth Bane trilogy, and I want to see how that ties into what we are going to see in TOR.
Eh...way too much info, was just curious!
Personally given a choice I'd want a post ROTJ era. For the same reasons that make the old republic a good time line for this game. WIth an added bonus of familiar characters and events.

Both the Old Republic and post RofJ would be my picks. Although, there are countless books about the post RotJ though, much more than the Old Republic so you'd have to take that into account as well.
