It's no surprise that a cash shop system was put into play here. Given the success of the game, it's easy to see why.
That being said, there are other ways to obtain tokens in the game without paying for them, yes?
~Miles "Tails" Prower out! Catch me if you can!
There is but its not efficient at all.. 40 Seals = 10 Tokens. If you do missions that cost 2 Tokens than thats 5 missions or ~30 minutes of play time. Not really a viable option. You can also do surveys but seriously.. Who does that? Most likely pick up adware from toolbars and such.
I also dont see how the game is a success at this point.. Right now you can play all you want pretty much. Not sure if that will change in OB or not.
And yes I have played the game a good bit.. Like I said in my first post the game is fun but at the same time shallow and really not worth what they are asking for a fair amount of play time.
Tokens will refresh on Mondays and Fridays.. So if you just use those you will get hardly any play time at all unless you consider sitting around doing nothing as playing.
I also do not beleive this game is targeted at the " casual " crowd either. Thats just an excuse to give just a few hours of play time free per week and almost force people into buying Plat Tokens ( whether people end up doing it or not is up to them ) to play a game they like for more than a handfull of minutes a day.
Indeed.
This game will rely on peer pressure and addiction high impulse buying (and the manipulation of the player to make that happen) to make money.
This game is just a typical 'F2P', albeit one with better graphics and play systems, but then a F2P isnt defined by those... it is defined by it's revenue model.
Obviously not my cup of tea, despite the fact I am attracted to a lot of the actual core design, but I won't be manipulated and bottlenecked into handing over my wallet to a company like Nexon.
Plus, must say, the actual content on offer seems to be stupidly shallow... Actually makes APB look deep lol.
Peer pressure? High impulse buying? Yeah, look at all the comercials and ads every where for Vindictus. They are so forcing us into buying stuff. OMG! A F2P with a cash shop?! Who cares if the game is good, it has a cash shop! I must say your opinion and knowleadge of the game seems to be "stupidly shallow".
Going to personal insults so soon? I musta hit a fanboi nerve.
Ofc the content right now in this game is stupidly shallow... how can you say it isnt? But then thats what this game and the revenue model is all about.
Get you in with the shiny game, let you invest in your character, make friends, then force you to pay pay pay in order to play with them and progress. You think this model is made with your benefit in mind? You think it is built to make sure you, the consumer, have more fun and a better value product? Or do you think it's built solely to make MORE profit at your expense?
It's actually a very neat piece of social engineering, and the beauty of it is the socially engineered cattle lap it up and even defend it, apparently unaware of how they are being manipulated (because the F2P market thrives on and indeed requires such manipulation to exist).

Nexon loves you.
Except....that you are completing wrong. In Vindictus you can play from level 1 to max level/end-game without ever spending a dime. And the same applies to other Nexon games. I have several maxed out Character in Dungeon Fighter Online, and have completed all currently available Generation (Expac names) currently available in Mabinogi without ever spending any money (I did buy fluff in Mabinogi after spending over a year playing that game).
But fact remains, you can clear ALL the content in Nexon games for FREE without ever spending a dime.

Weird how every F2Per never admits to spending appreciable money on these games (no, wait, one once did...). Makesyou wonder where those millions in revenue come from every year.
lol
I repeat;

Yeah, like you know how I think and all. Can you predict the future too?
If you really want to know how much money I've put into F2Ps, it's actually very simple. Since 2005 up to 2010, I have put a total of $90 US in F2Ps. To be more specific, $30 in MapleStory in 2005, $60 in Mabinogi ($30 in 2009, $30 in 2010). Since 2005, I have put an average of $800-900 in P2Ps. Geez, F2P's social engineering tactics sure is working on me!
And where did I claim that the F2P model is made with player benefit in mind? I didn't right? What I said is that, unlike your claim that these F2Ps force you to pay to progress further, it is not the case with any of the Nexon F2P MMORPGs, where you can play from level 1 to max without ever spending a dime and enjoying all of it's content. Is that too hard to understand for you or are you going to try and read my mind again to tell me that that's not exactly what I'm saying and that I'm actually lying?
Beside, no one is "out there to get you and steal your money". It's a freaking F2P. You didn't have to pay anything for the box, didn't have to pay any monthly sub, nothing. So if you don't like the game, and that applies to any F2P, no one is holding you back. And it's common sense in F2Ps for players to look at the Cash Shop before they play, to get an idea of wether or not they agree with it's content. Some like cash shop games that will give them more power, good for them. I don't like it so I play games where Cash Shop offers Fluff/Vanity, in other words, items that are not necessary to my Success, both in PvE and in PvP. And these MMOs are pretty common, Vindictus being one of them.
But yeah, thank you for trying to inform me about the 'shady side' of the F2P Business Model and how they steal your soul, a model that I clearly have much more experience with than you do.....
Peer pressure? High impulse buying? Yeah, look at all the comercials and ads every where for Vindictus. They are so forcing us into buying stuff. OMG! A F2P with a cash shop?! Yeah, like you know how I think and all.
I am judging the way you think from the way that you are posting, and you are coming across as the stereotypical F2Per so far, so I am gonna judge you as such until you show differently.

Geez, F2P's social engineering tactics sure is working on me!
Yep, thats what they all say, or very similar. Always best to take the number offered and double it (at least) in my experience of secret spending like this.
Pretty much everyone I have talked to about F2P, from Farmville to whatever, is embarressed about how much they really spend when left alone in a room with a credit card, so i usually take their claimed amounts with a pinch of salt.
And where did I claim that the F2P model is made with player benefit in mind? I didn't right?
I didnt say that you did, I offered the question.
You seem to have a habit of answering what you want me to be saying, rather then what I am saying.
Beside, no one is "out there to get you and steal your money". It's a freaking F2P.
Your using quote marks here, when clearly I didnt use those words. Bad debate
But, taking what you say in the spirit it is offered, if you don't believe that these games are built from the ground up to take you for every penny they can then well... thats more then a little naive tbh.
But yeah, thank you for trying to inform me about the 'shady side' of the F2P Business Model and how they steal your soul, a model that I clearly have much more experience with than you do.....
Reread what I origianlly wrote again maybe and think how that might apply to you, then maybe step away from the model you have immersed yourself in and see what it really is asking.

Come back when you actually know what you are talking about. All you're doing is just grasping at straws. Trying to find any way possible to counter actual facts to show how superior you are....yeah good job. Pretty pathetic if you ask me.
As far as I'm concerned, I have not been manipulated by any F2P companies at all, in fact, it's the P2P companies who are hyping their games, promising new generation and unique feature gameplays BUT you have to pay the $50 first to even get to see what's in the game! are the ones manipulating players.(Aion, Warhammer, and STO anybody?)
And Projection much? The way I see it, you are the type of impulsive buyer, and your fear of the F2P market simply shows that you are afraid of being "absorbed" in the game and end up paying large amount of money. When in fact, anyone that has experience with F2P games knows how they work and have the tools to decide for themselves. The fact that you prefer P2Ps over F2Ps, not because of conveniance or anything, but because you believe F2Ps promotes players to buy impulsively , shows that you need P2Ps to put a limit on the amount of money you can spend, as you yourself are an impulsive buyer and would spend far too much money in a F2P, if given the chance.
You are the typical stereotyped person who projects his feelings to others to remove all the blame off of himself, rather than admitting his own flaws.
Even though he has been acting quite rude, I'd have to side with Madnessrealm on this.
Basically, the game is still in closed beta and is going to open soon. As of now there is no reason to state that you should pay for the game other then the ability to obtain platinum tokens. The only real reason a person would pay is perhaps to look differently from the croud in their own fashon, yet you can do that by just working hard for the armor or weapon.
In a game where the least you can pay for playing the full game is "free", and the only funds a company could get is through Advertising or Cash Shops; I believe if it wants to be near an actual F2P, the cash shop shouldn't contain its own stat-increasing items or gear.
Of course, all F2P games usually have a source of income, from other games to doing it or advertising on their site. A cash shop seems like a different alternative that doesn't slow the game down of some sorts.

I agree that I don't think this is targeted at the casual crowd. I think a casual approach to this game might be the best way to approach it. I have a few other games that I will be playing along with this one, so playing this casually won't be a big deal to me (I don't think). I will boot this game up after this patch finishes and play a few levels and check out what is added before I decide to spend some money on the cash shop. If the bugs they had before have been fixed and the game doesn't have a ridiculous cash shop setup (meaning too much reliance on cash shop items), I will throw some money their way to buy some vanity items and maybe some tokens. I enjoyed every second of the game when I played it and yes it is "shallow" and repetitive but I didn't expect anything else to be honest. I actually expected less and I expected to uninstall it after a few missions.
I lost my interest in this game when I found out it wasn't really an MMORPG (way before betas). When I got the beta invite I tried it out like I do every new game that comes out. It surprised the hell out of me. I hope the cash shop is not ridiculous and ruins this game. If this game is handled right it could be a huge success. The amount of people interested in playing this really surprised me. That was beta though. We'll see how things go from here.
You sound like an impulsive buyer. You know what I do? I impulsively buy for a month (literally over 1000) in F2P games, then issue chargebacks because I know I'm gonna hate the game in a month. Now if you are actually gonna spend 1000 on a game and leave it.....I think you need to get off the chair and do some exercise cause your gut is probably hanging over it =/
EDIT: I forgot, get yourself banned first before you chargeback, otherwise you'll have nothing to use if your CC decides to call you back (yes, getting banned means not receiving goods which clashes w/ the ToS [goods not being your property but the company's] but the law is above ToS. This is why CC chargebacks for F2P games are so high; it's not illegal).
I have already seen a huge increase in the population. Nexion needs a better way to implement the pay to play. I find this game getting very repative at times with only 31 dungons to play, does get boring after a while. Nexion needs to strike while the iron is hot. Evie will be fun to play for a while and then what? I am personally looking foward to Guild Wars 2 myself. BTW, I rant about this in the latest podcast, the link is in my signature.
Having played Dungeon Fighter a lot, I came to expect and actually don't mind the coin thing. To clear some things up, you get coins refilled TWICE per week, that is it. The daily thing was only for Beta. You can buy more tokens, but I wouldn't really recommend it unless you are committed to playing tons of hours a day. If you play too long however, those two-token boat rides begin to cost more until you're eventually spending 4 tokens to get on a boat. I only ran across this when I was off from school during beta and literally playing like, 6 and 7 hours a day. And on the same character.
The mage, Evie, is on her way in a few days, which gives you 3 very distinctive characters to play as with 2 more on the way (the archer and the big dude). So yeah it restricts you a bit, and it is annoying I admit, but it's not game-breaking. Especially not if you like trying out the other characters, too. Realistically if you're playing like the average gamer, who has work/school/family/etc., to contend with, your tokens should more than last you until the next refill. If you're a hardcore gamer then yes, you are going to need to purchase tokens provided you are committed to playing one specific character the whole way through.
Matter of playstyles, really.
