Hey do you think if im not really a fan of the star wars movie series will I like this game? Is it a game that kind of has something for everyone or is it strictly based on star wars and will only interest the average star wars fan.
Playing: WoW
Waiting On: SWTOR, GW2, Rift, TERA.

I don't even know how to answer this question, as I don't know how a human can function and NOT be a Star Wars Fan...
I think it's a bit early to tell.
The starwars that bioware and the fans create is far greater than even the original starwars trilogy, making far more sense, having far more depth and interesting elements to it... etc.
I would argue that Bioware's starwars is unlike any starwars you've seen. Give KOTOR a try. If you don't like that, you might not like this game. Either way Bioware are good at making rpgs. I wasn't thrilled with the direction Bioware went with Mass Effect and Dragon Age, both of which I consider their weakest games plot and depth wise, but they were still excellent games and very enjoyable play experiences.
That would be like me saying "I think Star Trek and trekkies alike are both really fucking lame, but I'm gonna try STO because it looks like it has potential". It just doesn't make any sense....
PS: Star Trek, trekkies, and STO are all a disgrace to the sci-fi genre and should not exist
I would say that if you're just not a fan of star wars, you could still like the game...
However if you actively dislike it, chances are this isn't the game for you.
Well, I would agree with you there, to a point. I would, however, wonder what you consider to be the pinnacle of science fiction, then, if Star Trek is the bane of science fiction.
I would argue that speculative fictional works from Frank Herbert and Isaac Aasimov take the cake for that one.
He said he didn't like the movies. George Lucas' crap doesn't hold a candle to the starwars the fans have made.
this game is more geared towards the mass crowd than the star wars fan.
so if that is your only issue, you won't have a problem with the game.
you'll be able to play a wizard, or a tank, a range fighter, or a healer no problem, without noticing all the inconsistencies.
its more of a sci-fi game than a star wars game at that.
I'm obviously a star wars fan, not some basement-locked geek by any means, but I do love the movies. I do agree with you however in that it isn't the best sci-fi franchise to ever hit the market. Personally, I like the Stargate series better than the Star Wars movies, but I'm only 21 and haven't been into sci-fi for all that long compared to a lot of you would be.
Well if you maybe liked the galaxy and maybe the fact that they attempted to tell an epic tale I would say you may like the game, some of the best Star Wars stories I've experienced where not from the films. As a matter of fact I rate the six films pretty low in comparison to the novels, dark horse comics and the KOTOR story lines.
Now if you don't care much for story I can't suggest you'd like the game but with it being so far from launch I couldn't assure you it wouldn't be worth a shot either.
but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....
To be honest I cannot even imagine a person who grew up watching these movies actually not liking it. Or reading the novels like Timothy Zahn's ones. No seriously if you do not like it then you are going to miss that certain something like the French say je ne sais quoi to fully enjoy and bask in a Star Wars game. You will miss the subtle stuff the references the icons and quite frankly why play it. It will be just another game to you and with Bioware doing the RPG part you are not even going to appreciate it in the back drop of all that came before.
Honestly I feel bad for you missing all that and the goosebumps and excitement from logging into the game for the first time because of how much I love Star Wars. When I logged into Star Wars Galaxies the first time I cannot describe to you how I felt although the game did not live up to what I wanted I still loved that initial feeling. You are going to miss out on all that
ppl that dislikes star wars dont need to worry.if you like Wow u will like this game. if the kids can hit the button to pass the dialogues they will like this game too.
This is the problem with mmo gamers and why they become so bored so easily and jump from one game to the next and are never satisfied.
When playing a mmo, in my opinion, you really need to have a interest in a particular game that will feed your imagination. If someone is not a SW fan, then why would you want to play a game that is built around the lore and stories that deal with the SW brand.
Find a mmo that you have interest in, and the expierence you will have will be more satisfying and fun for a much longer time than just playing a game because it is a mmo.
Well, that might be but before Episode 1 came out I couldn't imagine Star wars fans hating the new movie either and 5 minutes of Jar jar got me to hate it myself. I grew up with those movies but JL have destroyed them by now, next up is the 3D re-re-re-release (Angry Joe here have a lot to say about it and I agree with him).
So I can imagine it even if I think it is possible that they will be very popular too, it all depends on how good they are.
There are some things I don't like here, the main thing is that I think the holy triad goes against the IP, the thought of healers and tanks in the SW IP makes me not happy at all. But on the other hand is full voice acting great so I guess we have to wait and see if the game can win over the SW fans or not.
But I can imagine a nerd rage like nothing seen before if they mess it up.
I guess it depends on what you mean by "not a fan".
If you mean you're not addicted and ready to lap up nearly anything with the name on it, then it's very possible you could like it.
If you mean you don't like it at all, and nothing about it really appeals to you, then there's a good chance you won't like it.
It is not just the gamers fault. The games are not keeping players hooked as EQ and DaoC did once.
The games also needs to pitch in, the endgame needs to be more diverse and the way to the endgame will have to get more fun. Then of course gamers needs to research and find the right game instead of playing a month of every single game they can find but it is not just their fault.
A game that is fun enough will attract players that isn't fans of the IP too. In fact I know many Wow fans that thinks that the Warcraft lore is rather bad and I play EQ 2 myself but the lore is weak there too. If playing is fun enough people will play it no matter the lore.
Do you dislike elves? Do you dislike fearries? Do you dislike minatuar?
What about goblins trolls and dwarves? I can answer yes to all of the above. Just aint my thing.
Will I play a game if it has these and is a good game. Yes. As for you I have no idea. You may or may not like the game.
That is your own opinion and nothing anybody else here says will change the fact.
"When it comes to GW2 any game is fair game"
While I think a train of thought like this can help I don't know if it is the overwhelming determining factor in whether someone sticks to a game or not, as you noted some people are already willing to play any game, which suggests to me they are somewhat into the lore (for example I refuse to play any Final Fantasy mmo because I can't get into games with farm animals and bugs as the type of enemies you find yourself facing) even if only slightly open to it.
I don't think mmo gamers have as big of a problem if devs stop taking short cuts, there are the devs who dream big and deliver little (often releasing unfinished material for us to pay to complete), and I love those who spend so much time just trying to get the game right they release with little to no content. These are the two biggest problems the mmo community faces right now, there are about four reliable games out there (technically and content wise) in a genre with a multitude of games.
but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....
Yes. Yes you will.
If you disliked Star Wars but loved WOW than you will love this game, at this point lightsabers are the only remaining thing left from the lore, you dont even have to explore space... everything is already explored and deemed " not very interesting" by the imperial senate.
SW:TOR will be heavily infused in the lore and universe of Star Wars, specifically the 'KOTOR era'.
But as said by others, SW:TOR will very likely be enjoyable also to other MMO gamers besides Star Wars fans, like those that like the themepark MMO-style.
It depends though, if you only like MMO's with a fantasy theme, then probably not, but for MMO gamers who also like their MMO's with a scifi or science fantasy theme, then SW:TOR is a good choice.

if you don't like star wars, you may very well still enjoy the game.
if you dislike star wars, then you probably won't.
The major selling point for this game is the storyline and the storyline will be very much star wars - related. if the mention of jedi, the force, lightsabers, etc. bothers you, then you probably won't like the game.
