Hello,
I bought GW long ago when there were no expansions, I liked the game but didn't like the fact that it was too instanced so I quit before reaching to max level and learn more about the game.
The upcoming GW2 is a game of my interest, so my question is, would it be beneficial to play GW1 in order to learn game mechanics as well as get into the Lore?
I won't be buying the expansions unless I see them super cheap in Steam. So is it worth playing the initial game?
I wouldn't mind the fact that it is too instanced if it is good for learning purposes. Right now I am not playing anything.
Thanks!!

no. GW2 looks like it's going to be very different from GW1.
Well its B2P, so if you own it and you have nothing else to play, then why not? I think the lore is really good, but I'm sure you can find a big Guild Wars lore wiki or something. There is also a book that will bridge the gap between GW and GW2.
I think the game was a lot of fun when I played (Which was from prophecies to about when nightfall released).
So if you still have the game and have time, then go for it.
I'm a cheap skate and am waiting for it to be on offer on Steam again, hopefully in a bundle. I dithered over whether to buy it the last time but went for something else instead, I now regret doing so.
Thanks for the different opinions.
I found the box, installed the game, downloaded all the patches to find out that in order to log in I need my Character name, like if I could remember that from 3 years or so ago... Anyway, I was able to reset my password but I had to email NCSOFT support for this issue.
So, how's Support from NCSOFT? I contacted them yesterday explaining my situation, and they answer me and asked me to check my screenshot folder ( LOL ) and I had stated I had not played the game for over 3 years and that I didn't have the same computer in case they were going to ask me to check logs of some kind.
I replied, but didn't like one of the question the asked me to answer:
-- What are all the retail access keys currently registered to your Guild
Wars game account? (Please include the retail access keys from each
campaign)
Can they ask me for the CD Key to be sent via email? I didn't answer that one, even though if my account is already created and tied to a CD Key, I do not like sending such information via email.
