Basic question about GW2

barrydbarryd Member UncommonPosts: 10

Is this game set up kind of like Vindictus or DDO where there is a small central location where you grab quests, do crafting, socialize etc. and then go into an instance to complete the quests? I never played the first one either. I just don't know.

I enjoy more of the open world type of mmo like lotro or wow. If this is set up as described above, what about it would entice someone like me who enjoys open world play to try it?

    Guildwars2.com

Don't want to sound rude but you do know there is a search function and a whole subforum devoted to this game on this site? Just put forth a little effort and you will find the anwsers to your questions.

It will be an open-world model in addition to instanced dungeons and city/town hubs.  Quests will largely be handled as dynamic events where the questline unfolds out in the open-world whether you choose to participate or not.  You can jump in on these events at any time, then jump back out again, along with everyone else in the area.  Events branch depending on your success or failure so you can stay to follow up the story, or just collect your rewards and move on.  Event rewards are generally given to you upon completion of an event without the need to track down a questgiver since often, there is no questgiver.  Events just happen.

You'll also have a personal storyline that is likely to be mostly instanced and involve accomplishing specific quests given to you by NPCs.  This is expected to be an activity that runs parallel to the rest of the open-world game.

So yes, open-world.  No to FFA PvP.  Grouping is completely optional for doing events.  You aren't inhibited from participating in events if you're not in a group.  Dungeons will likely operate in the exact opposite manner.

The world is large open persistant. GW2 is not the way Vindictus is setup.

Playing now: Cities: Skyline / Ori and the Blind Forest / Banished
