Daily Rant #1: GW2 and the Death of the common MMO

HikaruuHikaruu Member CommonPosts: 103

To start off: http://www.guildwars2.com/en/  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BamRCsZOBmU

Has anyone ever noticed (as i have) that many times when you're scrolling through videos or websites looking for a new game, you see a large number of "this is such a WoW clone"? well I have a little advice for them: Look at the links I have posted.

In the future, whenever you see trolls they will be saying "look at this GW2 clone" or "this game died because they didn't make it like GW2"

Guild Wars 2 blows all games (including WoW) out of the water. With many games going F2P recently, and with GW2 coming out, all P2P game are going to die, with the exception of Elitist Jerks (and in all fairness, who wants to play with them anyway?).

No games so far are going to compare to GW2.  The interactive battles alone are enough to keep you on your seat playing for hours.  Factor in the Dynamic events in gw2, scaling for those events, etc, you will never sleep again.

The combat alone should be more than enough to keep you busy. The ability to combine different professions' abilities into chains (and having to figure them all out) will keep you busy for ages. Not to mention the tactics involved in doing so and the use of environmental weapons to search for in the heat of battle, I have no doubt that your heart will be beating a thousand times per minute as you play GW2.

Now back to the subject of dynamic events blowing other games away. Do you ever get bored of "hey, those baddies are coming to destroy the town! help us!" and then you find the enemies in a field, or cave, just standing around doing nothing? NO MORE! as Colin (The lead designer of GW2) says, "if a character tells you ogres are coming to destroy a house, they will really come and smash down the house if you don't stop them!" events such as these will keep you playing for hours on end, and make you wonder why you ever bother with the trolls picking daisies in WoW and major MMOs.

There is no doubt in my mind that GW2 will outdo and outlast all other MMOs to date, and simply kill the populations of many of them once the players try it out.

And I present to you the 256th installment of the "GW2 is the WoW killer" troll post.

    As I said before:

    1) GW2 will not kill WoW or beat WoW's numbers etc.

    2) The pure number of these annoying posts being made by GW2 fans has ensured I will never ever touch this game because I don't want to be associated with its community.

I know this is all your opinion, but IMO it sounds just like every other MMO prelaunch. Lets see how many people are subscribing six months to a year after launch and tell me if you still think it's the end of all P2P games.

god are people really gonna start trolling me?

read the title. its a rant. random talking about a random subject in which i am entitled to my opinion. I really shouldn't have to worry about trolling every time i post that something is better than WoW or w.e

The thread will offend many people and make their blood boil. It already started.

While I like what I hear ALOT about GW2, I don't think it's going to kill any other MMO out there.

Agree regarding the MMO quests with the "would-be" invaders standing around picking their nose.  If GW2 can get MMO's out of the "wanderin' monstah" business, that will make me a happy camper.

I'm interested to hear what people think when it releases, but unless I get to try before I buy, I probably won't be buying it.

That's the kicker... there isn't a sub.  Xfire is probably gonna be the only indicator for how it's doing a year from now.

This kind of thing is why I try to keep my posting moderate.  There are *so* many games out there, and have been for years, and lots of people have played them.  *No* one game is the be all and end all of games.  No one game ever will be.

Am I a fan of GW2? Yep. Is GW2 bringing some great stuff ot the table? yeah.

But if its to the pont that other gamers won't go near the game b/c of fanboy rants? c'mon folks.  Snarling, if ya change your mind at some point, I'll be glad to go smack up a few centaurs with you.

Viewing's not the same as playing... else AoC would be king, right now.

Which is exactly why I don't see it as a threat to P2P games. More games are going F2P or B2P already and the biggest P2P game continues to grow. There are plenty of us that do not mind spending a little more money on a quality product that we enjoy to keep P2P viable for years to come.

You know, for once, just once, I'd like to see a post that doesn't say, "<insert game title here> is the BEST GAME EVER!", when they don't even have a copy and the game isn't even live. Like.. sure, it does look like a fun game, but you don't know and I don't know what it's really like. Nobody knows how it feels to go from level 1 to 50 (or whatever the max level is), all you've seen is what equates to a sound-bite that the developers purposely wanted you to see.

The reason for this post is questionable.

HOwever, I wager GW2 is more likely to kill DAOC than it is WoW. Why not call it a DAOC killer

And some people will find this game too complicated because of the above.  And likely some will find it too simple for various other reasons.  And some will find it just right.  And so it goes.

I'm keeping an eye on this game with mild interest, based only on what I do and don't like in an MMO applied to what I've read about GW2 features.  And at this point I'll actually be surprised if a large number of people have the same likes and dislikes that I do.  I've read too much on the forums now to assume that my tastes are the pinnacle of right and wrong in gaming.  (Even though they are, and anyone who disagrees with me is simply misinformed and wrong!  image)

I am convinced there is only one way to eliminate these grave evils, namely through the establishment of a socialist economy, accompanied by an educational system which would be oriented toward social goals.

If you look at the title of my post (death of the common MMO) i never said just wow killer.

i used WoW as an example because everyone knows what WoW is, and many other games many people would not recognize the name.  If there is anyone who does not know of WoW then they just are not a gamer, so i simply used it as an example

HAHA if you took out all the ridiculous GW2 advertisement's and all the FF14 hate posts, this forum would be pretty dead.

But seriously let's just wait and see when this game gets released, I have a feeling it will be a shit storm on these forums of fanbois vs haters.

Personally i'm looking forward to TERA, and I could care less about guild wars 2. I didn't like the first one so I doubt i'll like the 2nd.

    - also until I see Guild Wars 2 on mainstream tv shows and movies with people talking about it for playing it, I won't say it "killed WoW"

i would definitely have to agree with you, but keep in mind there ARE many gamers who enjoy a complex combat system, and from what I have read and watched, there will not be many aspects of the game which would be considered as "simple" (keep in mind i said not many, not none).

and you are wrong. anyone who doesn't agree with ME is misinformed and wrong :D

Posting that game X will kill game Y and/or Z is trolling and as a result will get troll responses.

No one with intelligence can honestly say that they truly think GW2 will bring down WoW. It isn't possible to say that and be truthful that you think that because it is such a ridiculous thought process. I hate WoW, I truly do. But GW2 isn't going to release and take 6-7 million of WoW's players, it will NEVER HAPPEN.

So to see a new ridiculous post every single day about how GW2 will kill all MMOs!!!1!!!!11 is just irritating and trolling the user of MMORPG.

Most people would not troll you if you said "I like GW2, I plan on playing it, here is what I think is good..." But to come out with a ridiculously idiotic statement like "GW2 will kill all other MMOs" is going to result in people not thinking highly of you and making comments to that point.

    Step 1.  Play the game.

Step 2. Claim it's the best game in the history of the universe.

    You missed step 1.

Id love all wow kiddies to leave for F2P games and P2P scene going back to how it was before WoW

  • HikaruuHikaruu Member CommonPosts: 103

Okay well the trolling is getting old, I am revising my post and it should be up sometime tonight when i have time to finish it.

Since I can only play one game at a time, when I play GW2, all other games, including WoW, are dead.

    Plain and simple.

    Ready for GW2!!!

    no offense but..

Same post, different game.   Everytime a 'new' game comes along the 'hype' comes with it.  Am I saying everything you believe is wrong?  no.  I am saying.. we'll see...  To many games have been propped up only to flounder after release with missing features, poor launches and promises of 'it's coming'... so again.. we'll see...
