Design - The game expects you to learn too much on your own, they don't like switching jobs/fatigue system, it plays like an MMORPG, they hate the travel time, they want like the limit on on Guildleves, the market zone suck. They think you need to be in close proximity to add somebody to the friend's list, which is actualy incorrect. Stubborn insistence that by doing things differently from modern MMORPG, it's wrong.
Gameplay - Slow pacing is unacceptable. Need to be able to jump over things. (What the heck is with the chocobo music? It's not in FFXIV.) Doesn't like learning anything, again. Only a game for the "irrationally determined."
Visuals - It is pretty... if you can run it at higher settings. Copypasta complaint again. Music is good.
Overall, "not in any way, shape, or form ready for release."
What an idiot.
Yeah idiot, coming from you not surprising really. Like you are ever going to admit if FFXIV has some serious flaws. huh!
Also, copy paste might be common but not at the scale SE used it. And good job on being WOW in argument again.
Every MMORPG, pretty much, has its resident fanboy who will spin, discredit or outright say "wrong!" about any criticism the game receives, no matter how relevant, no matter how oft cited, no matter by how many people.
Geldon is just doing his part to fill that role here.
Hes' FFXIV's "token fanboy" here on mmorpg.com, if you will.
So... just consider the source, and his M.O. when reading his posts.
Yeah, Geldon was the same one that insisted that the Gamespot review was some hacker's cruel joke on his precious game. Anyone who says "This review seems like someone hacked their site and put it up." is either a true blue fanboi or a child who doesn't realize no one is going to hack a game review site and risk jail time to flame a game they don't like.

[Mod Edit]
You act as if each reviewer should have gone around reading OTHER reviews in order to avoid making the same complaints...which would ruin the objectivity of the review from the outset. The fact that multiple PROFESSIONAL reviews have pointed out the exact same thing that players were complaining about during beta shouldn't nullify them as complaints, in fact it should STRENGTHEN their validity.
Now, again, I'm not saying that this game is bad, or that you shouldn't play it but you are so super defensive of it that it's a bit scary. You act as if this is your child people are complaining about rather than a video game that most of us had to pay money to play and dislike. I've seen this in every new release's forums for the first few weeks, but never with such stubborn denial as in these forums as of late.
At least, so far, no one has used the "if you dislike the game why are you in the forums for it?" defense in this thread. That one is ridiculous beyond comparison. I am here, like most anyone else good or bad, because I see these threads pop up in my little newest threads box on the main page. I happen to have an opinion about this game so I am voicing it.
The sleeper awakes...and rides his dirtbike to the mall.
I really appreciated those reviews ( but I don't like IGN reviews, their reviews just like advertising for thier customers). I have great interface problem even with FFXI,anyway I am glad to see the review because it is the problem of the game.
Yay more exaggerations! I'm not going to consider people who simply saw some reviews and never played as someone who doesn't like the game. Reason I don't care about gamespot and gametrailers is they review poorly more often than not. Gametrailers is just nice since they include video gameplay of their review.
Also LMFAO I just looked and gamespot gave vanguard release a 7.5. Seven. point. Five. Seriously I liked that game but no way I would have given it anywhere near a 7.5 for release. They just lost what little credibility they had with me.
There are legitimate complaints I have mostly agreed with (UI, market system), then there are posts by people hating on it just because it's Final Fantasy and didn't decimate every other MMO by casting as wide a net as possible to have all the appeal of a popular facebook game. Its not the best thing ever? Well people said it would be! (no they didn't) Screw it even if it is a 6 or 7 i'm gonna give it a 4 for not fulfilling hype they had nothing to do with.
People seem to be judging the game against hype, the (false) idea of Final Fantasy is supposed to be the best RPG series ever, or the fact it came from *queue choir* Square Enix *end choir* opposed to just reviewing it on its own. My point is If some two bit unknown dev studio released this same game under a different name it wouldn't be catching nearly as much crap, and that just shouldn't be so with regard to supposedly 'objective reviews'

Aye, but if that were the case, you would see a lot of people who are all 'i love this game' singing a tune of 'omg this game sucks - not release ready - reviews are spot on - that gamespot guy was right....'
If it were some unknown dev team that released this game under a different name, suddenly the people crying foul about these reviews would be agreeing with the 'supposedly objective reviews'.
Many of the people sticking up for SE and the current state of FFXIV have in the past complained about other companies and games releasing in the same state.

There's no accounting for reviews that are off the mark in the mmo world, but as for catching crap, you are dead wrong. EVERY 2 bit mmo release is treated with the same contempt. The only reason it's in greater volumes here is because the number of people who bought the game is higher and thus more people to complain.
A lot of folks are going to buy the game bacause it has the name FF on it. That's what SE is counting on and that's the main attraction to the game. If this were a game with the name "Riding birds online" or any other game with an unrecognizable name, people would be wanting to see what is going on with it before they lay down the cash for the box+sub. So basically we won't see how it really shakes loose for a couple months when word spreads how bad the game actually is. I still think there will be a sharp decline in playerbase after the free month is up though.

First of all I agree FFXIV has serious flaws and in most of the game aspect you could think that they learned noting from FFXI. Still I enjoy the game. Now that this is out of the way. I usually like Gametrailer reviews but this one is ridicolous in more than one way.
Most of the points they raise are valid but how they get them across is wether professional nor from an objective standpoint. Overlaying music in the background which doesn't even belong to shown sceneries and complaining about the sound of footsteps while running over abridge? To mock the combat speed they show the render intros fast paced combat scene? Combat is always more stylish faster in CG cutscenes in every game at least for myself I have never seen a game which came close the stuff shown in the cg intro.
Like I said I agree with their points for the most part but there are other ways to get them across.
Game Trailers review is spot on. I beta tested this and all the SE apologists were saying 'it's only a beta, it will be different in release!' Now that release has come and people are paying 50-60 dollars for exactly the same game as we had in beta, they've changed their mantra to 'well it just came out, it will CHANNNGGGGGEEEE'. Sorry, but if it's ready enough for SE to take people's money, it's ready to be reviewed, and the review was dead on the mark.
Also, stop calling anyone that doesn't like the game a 'WoW fanboy' or someone that doesnt like innovation or different things. I LOVE innovative MMOs, and I HATE WoW, and FFXIV is terrible. Heck, one of my favorite mmos in terms of innovation is Atlantica Online, the only MMO that I know of with true turn-based traditional old school combat where you control multiple characters (up to 9) at a time. That game was MUCH more complicated than FFXIV, and yet they managed to present it in an intuative way that was easy to learn and understand. FFXIV does everything wrong that it possibly could. Everything. Cut and paste landscape, faux old school combat which is great in theory but ends up slow, boring and monotonous, terrible controls, worse lag than any launch MMO I've ever played, no auction house, limiting what you can do, forcing grinding even at early levels, single character slot, hideous interface...

It says 5.9 for me....
EDIT: wait I found it, says 8.4
