Well, not colors per say. But there are ways to make the same item in different colors. My girlfriend has been trying very hard to craft one of the doublets in the color that she wants, but it keeps comming up with "You can't make anything with those materials," even if she's using the correct materials but just a different color than listed.
Now, I KNOW there is a way to do this, as I've seen it. I'm not necessarily asking for the specific recipe for the color, but is there a general rule to doing this?
I've tried googling, but I only managed to get vague information that didn't help too much. Or I may just suck at googling. And addng anything "color" just got me tons of results on the orb colors when crafting >< The only thing we've thought is that if you want to craft a shirt of a specific color, the leather straps and the cloth must match in color. But we know that doesn't always work, as the cotton doublets always want black dodo leather straps, despite the color you're going for.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated ^^

[Edit: Oh wait, I completely misunderstood what you were writing :P Here, lets try that again.]
As far as I can tell, you craft recipes of different colored stuff. It's all pre-made and built into the recipe, so you just need to match the recipe exactly.
For example, if you want a Cotton Doublet (Red), you need to follow this recipe, with those exact colors of all the components.
You can't mix and match them for true customization, alas.
As it is, right now, you can only dye a certain item. You have cloth dye and leather dye. Mail and iron armor inherite color from the cloth or leather based components of those armors.
You can check lodstone for the receipe.
Yeah, you did :P A for effort though!
EDIT: @Thachsanh and Geldon: I see now. So it's not as dynamic as we thought it was. That makes us very, very sad pandas =( Ah well, thanks for the info. And yeah Geldon, get to bed :P
I edited in the info you wanted.. I think. Methinks it's time I hit the sack, no? :P
Here are the Weaver recipes for example: http://ffxiv.yg.com/recipes?c=34
This is recipe for base Bronze Cuirass http://ffxiv.yg.com/item/bronze-cuirass?id=8030101
This is Blue version of Cuirass http://ffxiv.yg.com/item/bronze-cuirass-blue?id=8030105
Seems the main difference is the Undyed Canvas versus the Woad-Blue Canvas http://ffxiv.yg.com/item/woad-blue-canvas?id=10005014
So one component designates the final product's color. Looks like Canvas for Cloth and Plate items.
Not necessarily the case though On the weaver site, if you look all the way to the bottom, you'll see the undyed Canvas Cowl wants a brown Outer Cowl and a brown Hood, but an undyed Inner Cowl.
Similar, if you go to the lodestone, the undyed Hempen Breeches want Slate-grey Sheep Leather and grey Sheep Leather Straps, but the GREY Hempen Breeches want UNDYED version of those >< Trying to formulate a general pattern, but it's showing to be somewhat inconsistant ><
Similarly, she's trying to create a grey Sheepskin Skirt, and she's attempted to just use a grey Sheep Leather, as the default color's base is listed as "Uncolored Sheep Leather," but again, cannot make anything with those materials. I know she's tried other combinations, but I can't remember them all at the moment.
I guess if anyone knows the Sheepskin Skirt colored recipes...
That's what I was saying: you can't just replace components with different colored ones and expect to get a component colored like that. You need to use the components that match the exact components of a pre-existing recipe to create something like that. It may very well be that, as of this version, there is no such thing as a grey sheepskin skirt, and so you simply can't create one.
Yeah, I know. What I meant in the last one was that I was looking for a general pattern to make guessing these variant recipes easier, but it's quite inconsistent. One would think something as getting a different color would just have an easy pattern, but blargh.
Anyways, I haven't been able to find any recipes for the Skirt variants as these others, so I guess it's just guess and check until something works. Though maybe I just haven't been looking in the right sites.
Thanks for all the info guys, appreciate it.
