If at the very least NC will pressure them to keep bring in more money especially if it's going to do as well as everyone thinks it will.

    Guild Wars 1 has been out for 5 years and have managed not to be "game breaking", I don't really see why NCSoft would risk ruining that by forcing Arena.Net to do such a thing.

    ArenaNet decided this is the kind of business model they would use for GW1 and 2 and the game was designed around that. Money would come from microtransactions and paid full expansion. Introducing items that affect gameplay is such a huge gamble.

    Playing now: Cities: Skyline / Ori and the Blind Forest / Banished

    NC soft is just the publisher, not the owner of ANET so they can actually just say no if NC soft gets any weird ideas. Companies like Mythic who got bought up (by EA) and have a pretty bad contract are in a very different situation.

    If NC soft would mess things up ANET sould just get another publisher, I am sure companies like Eidos would love to publish them.

    This happened to Black isle when they were to publish Neverwinter nights for Bioware but stupidly messed with Bioware a few months before release (by using an engine Bioware owned without license for it), they lost the publishing rights to the entire game.

    So I am not worried about NC soft. Besides if they wanted to make a mess they would have done it as soon as GW 1 launched.

    The question to me is always about how much I think the game is worth investing in, the more I enjoy the more I'm likely to spend, create any frustrating experience to get me to the cash shop and it marrs my enjoyment, it has the opposite of the intended effect. I'm sure I'm not uncommon with that and I'm sure it's the sort of thing Anet think about, frustration = bad emotion, treating yourself to fluff because your enjoying the game and getting good value is more like a real treat, you do it for you and because you think what your playing is worth it.

    I agree => return business.

    Don't know what the big deal is with the cash shop. It won't stop you from exploring or getting everything in the game, it won't give an edge in anything to any player, and its not like this article says: Pay to Win.

    The words "Cash shop" alone are enough to spark ire in some people. As for why? Its because it's very easy to go from a "good" shop to horribly unbalanced, and in some cases can even ruin a game.

    It's always healthy to be a little sceptical around the idea of a cash shop, but any real judgement should be saved until you actually see what is in it, and the prices of the items.

    I have to say I was looking forward in buying this game for sure until I have read about the item shop. Will be on hold for me now. Let's wait and see. I am not keen on playing a game where someone has ANY advantage (when they pay more) over me even if it's only the looks of the character. I just can't stand in-game shops. I do however agree they have to find a way to somehow make money. Just hope it's not like that. Wish them well..

    You may as well give up MMOs now because cash shops are here to stay.  If you write off even those that only carry cosmetic items, I hope you enjoy cutting off your nose to spite your face.  You'll be doing that a lot in the future.

    Have some faith in ArenaNet.  IMO, even with only the GW series in their resume, I rank this development house as one of the best.  Nothing that they've said about GW2 changes my opinion.  They honestly think about the gamers and they KNOW that a 'pay to win' cash shop would tank their reputation and their player base would be infuriated.

    If anyone can do a cash shop right, it's ArenaNet.
