FFXIV Misinformation ;P

1. FFXIV just released…all MMO's have the same trouble when they release.

False:  Most games have bug issues, server lag and lack of endgame content.  FFXIV has all of this, but on top of that it needs a complete rework of its prehistoric UI, more content from the beginning of the game…Other than the main story, what content is there?  Guildleves are repeatable quests that other MMO games throw in to fill the content gap that was evident at launch.

2. FFXIV is unique and old school

FALSE for old school, true for unique!  FFXIV went out of its way to reintroduce players to all the things they hated about some of the first MMO (and RPG's for that matter) to come out in the 90's.  I remember having to take notes on locations for Morrowind for crying out loud…I never wanted to do it again.

TRUE!  It is unique in the fact that it's the first P2P MMORPG that's main source of content are repeatable quests and that for at least the first 20 levels (all I wanted to see) you fight the same critters for xp.  Also, the only NPC's you'll see are in the city and a handful in the very tiny settlements where you have to talk to a crystal to start your repeatable quests (not an NPC).

This game is just too hard for you…it doesn't hold your hand

FALSE!!!  This game holds your hand like no other.  You must talk to the crystal to start your quests and then it proceeds to show you exactly where your mobs are.  Pulling up your journal shows you exactly who you need to go see to advance any quest (even though there aren't many).  Each "new" area (not much new about them…all look the same) has one little settlement where you pick up your guildleves and complete them…if that's not hand holding, I don't know what is.  The menu's as crazy and ridiculous as they are, also hold your hand, making sure at least 3 times that you want to perform the task you are currently trying to perform.

SE will fix it and you'll be sorry you said anything bad about it!

FALSE!!!  The money and time it would take to fix this monstrosity would be the same as if they deleted (everything but the graphics engine) and started from scratch.  It needs a complete rework.

There is no better way to work the combat mechanics for a controller.

FALSE!!  This could just be my opinion, but the one thing Champions Online had going for it is that it had the BEST combat mechanics to fit a game controller…you could access anything with a touch of a button.  Combat was fluid and fast and it almost made it feel like you were one with the controller (sounds corny, I know)

They made alot of mistakes and poor content choices. That's all I'll say (quietly unsubs).

    The misinformtion for FF14?

How about...The press statements and releases prior to launch?

About how its 'a casual game'

About how leve-quests are always going to be available when all other forms of quests were exhausted? And how innovative levequests are?

About how you will be doing a lot of exploring while doing levequests and discovering new things.  I think not.

About how players can either team to max level or solo and that there was going to be something for everyone.

Also includes my favorite quote "You can do most of the things alone or call your friends so you can see the story unfold together".  First story mish? "Please leave your party to initiate" lol same with the lvl 10 and lvl 20 one.

Tactical combat? it was either a cake walk or we all get 1 shotted. Heck the lady bug aoed a lot of us down. Granted some enemies had special tricks that you can avoid...it wasnt what i was expecting.  (based on the lancer video on the site)

When you read the prior statements and how FF14 was described by squeenix then play the game...You would think that they were talking about a completely different game

FF14 had a lot of potential. And it sucks how they just flat out messed it up to the core x.x

    Edit:

I was also disappointed with the enemies... Very very disappointed.  I mean omg x.x were fighting things smaller than our weapons o.o That was SOOOOO not like final fantasy. Final Fantasy 5...in the beginning youre fighting bandits...then ravens....then weird ghosts... Final Fantasy 6 youre fighting wolves, birds, giant sandcrawlers in the beginning.  Final Fantasy 8 T-Rex in the training area people o.o and Caterchipillar! Yes I remembered the spelling!

True, they felt like they were playing the worst MMORPG of 2010. How ridiculous of you to say 'a different game'.

I really didn't like this original post.  Just doing a bit of a rundown:

    • 1. FFXIV just released…all MMO's have the same trouble when they release.

I don't think a whole lot of people are saying that all MMORPGs have the same trouble.  That's two overgeneralizations in one, basically a custom-built fallacy.  First, because MMORPGs will have differing levels of trouble at release - some next to zero, others tons.  Second, because the individual troubles themselve can be radically different beasts.

    • False:  Most games have bug issues, server lag and lack of endgame content.  FFXIV has all of this, but on top of that it needs a complete rework of its prehistoric UI, more content from the beginning of the game…Other than the main story, what content is there?  Guildleves are repeatable quests that other MMO games throw in to fill the content gap that was evident at launch.

This isn't really refuting the original point, it's just throwing a bunch of unrelated claims that are supposed to stand on their own.  Most of the post is filled with these.

    • 2. FFXIV is unique and old school

Okay, how are you going to refutre that some people find a game to be unique and old school?  You can't.  So following this with a "False:" (yada yada) is just you expressing your opinion as to why it's not unique or old school to you.

And so on.  You know, you might have some good points here, but putting it in such bold terms as TRUE! or FALSE! undermines them because it makes me look at them in terms of core logic instead of opinion.

This is so sad, because its true. When I first heard about FFXIV at least year's E3 on the live stream, it felt like several Christmas' all at once. The last year or so had been an agonizing wait for an ex-FFXI player like myself...only to be let down so badly.

I'm frankly still in shock how badly this 'game' turned out. Haven't touched an MMO in over a year, and its likely to be that again until I bother with another.

I would have sold all my stock as well...

Invest my money into a Game Company to make my own MMO...

and leave a flaming-bag-o-poo on their doorstep.
