If you have played "Longest Journey" you probably will understand the plot alot better, since it is happening in the same "universe" as that game, allthough in a different part of it.
Some of the things happening in "Longest Journey" is an intricate part of AO history, and the backstory of the SL expansion become alot more understandable after having played "Longest Journey"...
Crook: I may be a fan of AO, but I don't work for FC... I would not want to either, my current work pays too much for FC to be able to afford me...
Crook: And if Gamigo had that few, it just makes the numbers for the last 2 servers run by FC seem even higher, and even more marvelous... When any other game can go for months without downtime, and with that many ppl per server with minimum lag, please let me know cause it will be possibly a better game than AO, but my guess it would be the next game FC is working on that will be that way, not anyone elses... but lets hope I'm wrong... otherwise it will be sad for all of us...
The free version of AO is just AO, no expansions whatsoever, not even Notum Wars... but think of it as a 1 year tryout... Seen like that it is the best tryout in existance... Seen any other game you would have played with a tryout like that ? I usually feel that 7 day tryout is nowhere near enough time to make sure if a MMO is the right one for you...
This kind of says it all. Four years on the market, very little competition, 40,000 or so paying players, and 1.5% of the market share. I would like to say AO rocks, I really would. I have top level characters, had access (could still have) to all the private forums( NOT! the private test forums for newbs, I'm talking CoT/ Professionals/ Bug Hunters forums i.e. 30 or so people have access) , know the game like the back of my hand, been playing it for 3+ years. I really would love to say it is super bad ass and every one should get the free trial so I can have more pawns to subjugate. The truth is the games core concept ( IP use, Items, Mass PVP) are great, but the management of the game has been such a complete joke there is little, if no reason to play it even if it was the only game on the market. I personally dont think Ill be playing a new MMO (unless some one can recommend something really good), they didnt loose me to WoW or EQ2, they lost me simply because they have made the game suck, and I dont pay 14.95 a month for my games to suck and be treated like trash.
i played ao almost 3 years and loved atleast 2 of it ... for a new player ao has really much to offer but when you reach the higher levels and endgame this game is nothing anymore you just grind or grind or maybe grind a bit more ? ^^ free to play and the new attidude from funcom could help ao to survive a bit longer but keep in mind wow isnt out in europe yet and like 70% of the ao community are eu players so we gonna see how ao will perform in 3-4 months from now roughly ... at the same time they bump up the texture quality and if they dont upgrade the engine too (and i doubt it since its to much cost/work for a dead horse with 3 fresh ones in da house that could use the money from ao) the whole game gonna lag even more and will be almost unplayable and thats gonna hurt the endgame again since mass pvp gonna suck even more with more lag
ao is at a point where balancing the classes and fixing older bugs is a to big problem to solve since the code from the game is shitty/messed and changing something add usualy tons of new bugs even if its just a name fix (seems so atleast)
all those reason "could" mean ao is gonna die soon but funcom knows how to fool their fanboys/addicted players easy with just some shit like naming backpacks (players asked for that since launch) instead of making the game fun again and getting rid of the grind & easy to play mode (xp/sk pool) back in the days the missions were a grind too but you could atleast say hey im skilled in this game and made it to 200 now its just a matter of time and not skill to reach 220 since you loose nothing anymore ... and again funcom tried to solve this problem with ai (loosing alien xp is possible) to bad the goals funcom set us to reach arent as tasty as they should be so most peeps dont even try to go for the maximum because its "useless" anyway
Well i would like to point out that ao has been around a lot longer then CoH.
I have gone from eq to ao and back to eq that is going down hill fast right now, never seen people start to require server consolidation before in eq.
I enjoy ao a lot, and i enjoy shadowlands as well, guess it depends on playstyle a bit, if you powerlevel yourself past all content to reach 200+ in a matter of weeks no wonder you get fed up. I have played for a rather long time, picked the game up shortly after launch but then took a year or so of playing eq, i currently have 2 accounts and 1300+ levels total, but still my highest toon is 106, i play for the fun and relaxation not to be able to solo the beast as a doc at lvl 25 Perhaps this makes the game more fun to me, hear comments from people in everquest to that they get bored, no wonder making 65 in a few weeks.
I don't think ao is dying, so far i would say everquest seems more affected by eq2/wow, i have even considered cancelling my eq account.
