Judgments of value in matters of arts and entertainment remain ever-subjective.  Clamoring for the universal dislike of Final Fantasy XIV is about as likely to happen as establishing a universal dislike for modern art.

The game trundles onward awkwardly like a wagon on square wheels, the yoke attached firmly to players such as myself who really like the game, and the banditos determined to see the wagon train burn for its perceived impracticality are as much tyrants as any.

Though I have to say that I've been rather reminded as of late that MMORPGs are a massive time sink for very little return investment in terms of gameplay novelty.  I may well be severely docking the time I invest to FFXIV or any other MMORPG as a consequence.

Count this as the game losing its greatest supporter and you'd be fooling yourself.  This isn't the second time I've burned out from the whole rigamarole that is the paid subscription large scale multi-user dungeon, I think the count is somewhere in the mid double-digits at this point.  You don't play games for 26+ years without becoming remarkably fickle.  My hard drive is littered with games that have a 80/100 or greater critic aggregate rating that I just spontaniously lost interest in.

Final Fantasy XIV fares a bit better than most.  I'm still planning on keeping my subscription running, which is remarkable in and of itself: as far as any MMORPG is concerned, it will remain my poison of choice until some game establishes itself as better at what it does for me.

I will be staying in FFXIV for a very long time, provided that it develops just like FFXI did.

FFXI had more stuff to do end game and mid game (expansions) then most other games on the market.  My biggest fear is SE giving up on FFXIV due to lack of  a subscriber base or if it starts bleeding money.  But if they remain dedicated to making FFXIV better and better, than I will remain dedicated and keep playing.

HOWEVER, if the changes are very slow to come, and they are not substantive, I wouldn't have any reservations of going to GW2 or SWTOR.

Unlike most, I'm more than willing to give them at least 6 months to make the changes they are planning to make.  PS3 release is going to be a really good indicator of the current state of the game.

IF the PC release is averaging 48% in terms of scores, and the PS3 gets 70-80% ratings, you'll see a lot of people comming back, because it will represent the tremendous strides the game has made.

As of now, I love the game and will continue to play until my opinion changes.

Sooo... you're not playing anymore, 3 weeks after launch, because it feels like a timesink for very little return on investment. The biggest fan of this game ever in the history of MMORPGs has stopped playing after 3 weeks because... MMORPGs are a timesink. Ok...........

The people that don't like this game are not tyrants. People want to see the game burn if for no other reason than they feel like they got burned when they bought it.

I have to agree, I'm liking the game. Feels a bit old school to me and I'm enjoying discovering things. Not sure if it will be my main game really but I'm in for a bit.

BWAHAHA.  I'm so happy to see that Geldon's sycophantic support of this game has finally switched.  Can you finally see what everyone was trying to politely explain to you two weeks ago?  God.  This pleases me immensely.

PS: I like the way Geldon has to awkwardly back out of his earlier position, like he can't just admit to himself that the game isn't very good.  "Oh, it's not FF14 in particular, this could happen with ANY MMO! You know how it is, right?  I mean, MMO's.. pssh.. Right?"  It has nothing to do with the fact that this one sucks.  It's like he's trying to break up with his girlfriend.

That's an interesting viewpoint. Do you want all FFXIV fans on these forums to admit that the game isn't very good, or just Geldon? Like Sovrath for example a few posts back, he says he likes the game, that doesn't sound like he thinks the game sucks.

I'm not asking the question in general, but specifically directed towards you because of your 2 last posts here.

The question is not that big of a deal, I'm just curious image

The ACTUAL size of MMORPG worlds: a comparison list between MMO's

The ease with which predictions are made on these forums:
Fratman: "I'm saying Spring 2012 at the earliest [for TOR release]. Anyone still clinging to 2011 is deluding themself at this point."

Uhm I often broke up with MMORPGs  just because of the reason that I had not the time to play them? Does it make this games bad? Than I guess that World of Warcraft totally sucks since I stopped to play it becase of the MMORPG timesink that actually exists. :P

But personally I guess this let us say schadenfreude is just a deep down human desire like to say 'Ha I was right and you not' thing or something like that.  I mean Geldon even would not have to need to say this reason in the forum after all.

Aside of that I still like the game :)

Quite frankly, the game is not very good and needs a lot of work. The UI needs to be completely redone, more content needs to be added. Crafting has to be redone completely because not only the whole crafting process slow and confusing, the sheer amount of mats the game has is enough to drive someone up the wall. The game world needs work as well--it feels empty. Sure there are mobs wondering aimlessly about but the world feels lifeless.

The game seems to appeal to old school gamers, myself included, but that still doesn't make it a good game. Rather it seems to appeal to those players who don't mind games that are difficult to use.

After playing the beta I thought Id wait with buying the game.

Now today I was finally bored enough to buy it so I did, and guess what?

I played for 20 minutes and I had FUN, but what happens after the 20 minutes? I crash. Every 20 minutes the game will crash. :(

I`m sure many posting are i nthe same situation and can take that experience and apply it too what we see and expect.

So running up your post count means something?  lmao

I've played a ton of mmo's.  I think ppl with high post counts are too busy posting and have no time to play...lol.

FFXIV is a great game.  SE is a great company.  They made the game according to what they thought we wanted....but alas they musta been listening to the ppl with high post counts...hehe ^^

Now it's time for them to listen to the real gamers...the true FF fan base...and they're doing just that.  Takes time to undo what they thought we all wanted.

    This.

The fact the FF14 is competing against the worst MMO's out there is not a good sign. Face it, FF14 is the worst AAA MMO to be released potentially in history. Other games had much worse launches in terms of servers and whatnot, but this game was just boring right out of the box.

I swear people have to have the mindset of a Chinese gold farmer inorder to enjoy this game.  Good luck to you all if you do, but I...just...can't...do...it.

there's a rating system here?  Oh yeah...I see it now...there's stars next to my name ^^  hmmm...

I express my ever changing views here...I have no desire defuse my views to try and get good ratings or bad. I couldn't care less about those star thingies.

I too hated this game in the beginning, not because I thought it was a bad game, but because I wanted a ffxi sequel.  So I posted those feelings. Then the more I played the better I liked it, so I posted those feelings....so yeah, I changed my views about the game.  I would never compromise my feeling just to get ratings...so go ahead and rate me up or down it that makes you feel better.

I'm only here to waste time while I'm away from home and can't play...then when I'm home I play to waste time in a different way.  I just wish there was an AH so I could waste time a lil easier :)

I agree with you 100%, and I too only post here when I'm away from home and can't be playing.

Have you tried www.ffxivpro.com yet for AH purposes? I know its not in game, but it does help a lot.
