Not a bad game at all...worth a try

I've been playing MMO's for quite some time now...SWG, EQ2, WoW, CoX, EVE, Warhammer, Age of Conan, Guild Wars, Aion, Lineage...and dabbled in a few others. I have to say this game is'nt bad at all..considering it's free, it offers something fresh and has a sandboxy feel to it.
Positives:
Open feel to the class system....you can be adventurer(discovery), merchant(trading), maritime(pirating,ship warfare) or become a mix of all 3 types with many different skills to learn from all 3.
Stable server and lag free for the most part.
Friendly community
It's free!(and better than many games that I have payed hard earned money for each month)
Large world(plenty of new places to discover/explore)
decent crafting from what I've seen so far
Negatives:
Graphics are not that great to be honest... they are outdated by todays standards(it's tolerable)
-graphics are very eastern looking in my opinion...I would prefer a different look to be honest(more rugged, less "fruity")
-longgggg tutorial(once you suffer through it...the game seems better, although it does a great job of orientation)
-music is horrible in my opinion(just turn it off)
*UWO is not the perfect game...but a really nice surprise considering I tried it on a whim and out of sheer boredom from other MMO's
*Similar to Sid Meirs Pirates...but with a Korean twist I suppose.
Give it a try you my be surprised...

Just wanted to clarify a couple of points you made.
The graphics are "Eastern" because this was a game primarily made for the "Eastern" market. We are merely playing a copy of the Japanese version that has been translated.
The tutorial is as long or as short as you want it. You do not have to complete it before playing, or ever complete it for that matter. I'm over level 20 currently, and I never graduated from the tutorial.
The music is a throwback to the NES and SNES games from 20 years ago, I don't mind the music at all, but it's definitely not something I would listen to on a CD in my car, and like you said, you can just turn the music off and use Winamp or something.
The tutorial is several hours too long. Saying you don't have to complete the tutorial doesn't change the fact that the tutorial is too long.
I don't mind the music at all although it is important to note that the game is now "new" and therefore doesn't have a new feeling to it in terms of graphics or music and the UI. The UI isn't bad, but you can tell this is a few generations behind the newer stuff (well except FFXIV which managed to bork their UI to a major degree).

It's not Korean. Netmarble is a Korean company, but Koei, or rather now, Tecmo-Koei, is not. Netmarble is only the publisher of the English language version, and presumably also the Korean language version.
I mean, did anyone play Tecmo Super Bowl or Liberty or Death and think, whoa, this game feels Korean? I realize that there are a zillion MMORPGs that are Korean, but this isn't one of them.
By the time you get to the end of the "tutorial" it's no longer a tutorial, and is just a quest chain. They aren't teaching you anything new, and you're getting amazing exp and money for it.
I just finished the merchant final exam, and I made 100k on the leadup and gained a full level by turning in the final.
When you start doing normal quests from the quest givers, you're going to wish you were still getting the kind of money and exp you got from the "tutorial" quests.
I am past the tutorial, and I am not a merchant. I am guessing from your response, your experience is with the merchant class which is not the only class. Renaming the tutorial into something else doesn't change the fact it is too long. I am going to say it again, and agree with the others the tutorial is too long. I don't care if you rename it, ignore, make claims you like it so much because it made you rich; it's TOO LONG. Also, don't assume people talking to you haven't been playing the game. I am past the tutorial... have been past the turotial and I have no desire to return to it.

netmarble's little thing they make you download keeps freezing my browser. and I tried 3 browsers and it still freezes.
If you don't know by now, there is no fixing the situation.

I've heard the marble station doesn't work for people with windows 7. Just download the game normally, there's a link to download it on their website.
I've heard the same thing, so maybe my computer is an exception, but I've ran UWO on my laptop which has Windows 7 Ultimate 32b. Also, as far as I know I never installed any kind of browser application. I probably downloaded the game with Opera, so maybe that's why.

Works fine for me too, and I have the 64-bit version even.
