So let me get this straight, this game looks amazing I guess everyone gets it by now. The dynamic content, the armor customization the versatile roles of the classes, the above average graphics, the "being guild wars but better, which is a reason on its own". But I can't help but notice the title of the game (yep I'm that observant). Now, I understand that this game is obviously going to have GvG battles and if I recall Guild Wars had this on a max of 8v8 scale. Which was not bad, definitely not for a game dating back to 2005, plus it was one of the few games (and still is) that actually have competitive pvp, along with WoW, but will that be enough for GW2?
Which leads me to my next point. WvWvW. At first, I was very thrilled to hear about this, but then I started getting shot to the ground slowly...It is a shame (for me) that they plan to add such an amazing pvp feature and yet make it casual. I can't say I was very pleased about the sidekicking system either (yeah I know, beat me to it), but I guess it all caters to it being casual. I wish it was a bit more rewarding and not that much of a secondary;at the very least I hope it would be equal to GvG in importance.
So is everyone here about GvG and the dynamic pve system? Would it be bad if I put my hopes up on the pvp side of the game other than GvG? Maybe I'm just an ex-daoc player desperate to find a new place to call home? I'm probably going to pre-order anyway but I'm sad to say I'd expected more on the pvp side of the game. But then again, there is very limited info given for pvp from ANet. I hope they deliver more than a GvG instanced battleground for the pvp junkies.

I think you will be satisfied with what Anet has to offer. While I am certainly hypothesizing because haven't seen WvWvW in action yet if it is anything like PvP in GW1 then it will be great. Also, it appears you will see PvP in more than just battlegrounds, but it does not appear they have plans for a PvP server or for open world pvp. Granted the WvWvW could actually take place in areas of the map that are non-instanced, but your pvp and pve areas will not be mixing together. In addition, GvG in GW1 was doable even by casual players. The level cap was only 20 and after that you farm some cash or the gear you want and you are G2G. You could also enter all other forms of pvp casually by making a pvp only character that started at max level with all the gear, skills, and upgrades you had unlocked available to it. Expanding my point a bit broader GW1 had amazing pvp that was easily accessible to casuals, therefore we will most likely see this in GW2 as well.

They are still mum on how guild interaction will work. I think it is premature to be disappointed about how PvP will work until they actually release their complete plans for PvP and guilds. They have only scratched the surface so far, don't give up hope yet.
Archlinux ftw
As you know the PvP in Guild Wars 2 will be split into two types. WvWvW and Structured PvP. While WvWvW is the more casual type guilds will still have a role to play. As the Guild Wars 2 wiki says: "Guilds will be able to take and hold keeps".
Structured PvP will be a much smaller scale indeed (and even smaller than GvG in GW1) but this is a good thing imo. Makes it feel more like an FPS with small organized teams theoretically on equal footing where only skill matters. This also makes it much easier to balance.

Really will have to wait until they put out the pvp information before any judgements can be made.
I'm fairly sure WvWvW isn't sidekicked . Or is that not what you were saying?
Considering we've been given very little information about PvP so far, beyond just the skeleton, isn't it a bit premature to be concerned?
