If not Bioware, who?

I happen to love Bioware and I'm a Star Wars fanatic...from the moment I 1st heard the rumor about Bioware developing a Star Wars MMO (within weeks of the NGE), I've been excited about what they could develop. Every day there seem to be more complaints about Bioware and the fact that they are developing this game. While I understand concern and player passions about what "they" would love to see in the game (I have my own list too), I am also shocked by all the hate I see directed towards Bioware.

So let me ask - Who would you rather see developing the next Star Wars MMO?

Blizzard? CCP? SoE? Cryptic? NCSoft? Of that list, I'm still THRILLED we have Bioware designing this game. It won't be everything everyone wants it to be (no game is), but of all the companies out there, Bioware is hands down my favorite.

CCP and Blizzard combine forces and form Voltron Studios to create the best Star Wars game ever.

I'm with you on this one.  BioWare has a proven trackrecord of making great games, and specifically making great Star Wars titles.  When I think of Kotor, I always remember how much freedom it made me feel I had in the game... while in reality, it was completely on rails, with very tight story driven paths to go down.  But it FELT like my choices mattered.  That's quite an accomplishment for a single player game.

Now i'm just imagining what they can do in an open, persistant universe... Damn.

    CCP.

I get the feeling they could pull off making a very convincing, in depth, and enjoyable Star Wars universe. In addition, they already have the whole space engine from Eve to draw off of. A combination of Eve's space gameplay with a star wars flavor, tied in with a decent ground game would be exactly what the SWG vets have been pining for.

    Bioware... definitely.

Although I am skeptical about anything with EA's involvement.

I wouldn't trust any other company with a SWTOR game.  In fact,  I'd much rather have had BioWare also at the helm of a NWN game.  TOR became popular by their hand,  and utilizing their engine lived on in the second iteration -- also of which became widely popular.  If we are talking about a SWTOR game,  I say, theres no one who could do it better then BioWare.

I don't think there is an MMO - only company out right now I'd consider that would make a good star wars game.  Its like deciding who you're going to promote in a company to take on the next big project when all of your employees have mediocre performance ratings.  Sure each of them could do it,  maybe even bring something new to the table, or make something different,  but more than likely,  I'd bring in Mr. Outside Hire.

Sorry, the CCP koolaid has an odd smell...

Eve sucks.  Sorry, but that's the way it is.  It caters to a tiny number of people.  BioWare's game will bring in millions of players.

350 thousand is a tiny amount of people? this isnt including the thousands of people constantly running trials and the millions of people that were subbed at one point and just arent in the game right now (probably waiting for Incarna lol)...

I would never consider a game that that freaking many people enjoyed bad.

Even if i disliked the game myself.

Addition: OP, Bioware will be fine with TOR... they're making a themepark mmo after all. which is basically just a single player rpg anyway. Its going to be epic no worries.

    No one.

None have the same experience with the setting, another company making it would mean it was probably set in a different era of SW, dropping my interest by several notches immediately.

And Star Wars is not meant to be an economic simulation game or whatnot, it is about exactly what BW is doing here: the hero's journey.

Feel free to use my referral link for SW:TOR if you want to test out the game. You'll get some special unlocks!

I am not a fan of EvE. I found the game to be pretty boring. The game felt too much like work. I understand that EvE has its fans with their religious devotion to the game thou.

On the other hand, I have really enjoyed the vast majority of Bioware games ( Baldur's Gate, Mass effect 1/2, Dragon Age, and Knights of the Old Republic).  I am hoping that Bioware continues its multi platinum selling approach. The only that I would put in the same catagory as Bioware would be Blizzard. However, Blizzard is busy with their own set of MMOs.

I'm saying NOBODY knows how good it is. Until they do, I'll reserve my judgement of it. STO had ground combat too...it sucked.

Yes! I can see it now! CCP would totally revolutionize ground combat in an MMO! Instead of using pesky actionbars, we would get right-click menus and spreadsheets for everything! Just imagine it... an epic battle between a sith and jedi auto-rotating around each other while selecting different attacks that occur several seconds afterwards. That sounds AMAZING!!!

And the space game would be even more incredible!! It would take at least two hours to get where you need to go and it could double as a space screensaver!! I'm totally in.

    </sarcasm>

Seriously though, Bioware is the only company I would trust with this project...

Truth is Old Republic is BioWare's baby, so it only seems right that they do it, no one else could do it right, look what happened in the past.  Whether it will be an epic successes/failure, is still yet to be seen.

Star Wars as an IP has been around most of my life.  There have been hundreds if not thousands of books written, comics, dozens of video games by everyone from the biggies like EA to little nobody companies.  Out of all that very very very little ever is accepted by George Lucas as being worthy of becoming part of the official story line.

You know who has created content that Lucas thought was so bad ass he made it "canon"?  BioWare.

There is no one but BioWare who can pull this off.  Whether or not they can overcome the curse of the Star Wars IP is a completely seperate matter.

You are a good poster, but lets face facts. EVE is known for everyone running multiple accounts. It also allows game credits to be exchanged for playing time, which allows accounts to stay open.

The sub numbers of EVE do NOT reflect the actual popularity of game. It is highly successful, but there is no doubt it caters to a very select niche. That niche is no where cloe to 350k.

If you think Eve and CCP is such hot sh** then why the fu** are you in another game's forums?  I know that I don't go mucking around in games forums that I have zero interest in.  When I am happy in a game I can care less what other ones are coming out.  So, based solely on personal experience, I can only assume that Eve really isn't all that great because of how many of you troll EVERY SINGLE OTHER GAME.  Go back to being a little worker ant, I am sure there is an asteroid out there calling your name.

    1. Someone actually has to pay 35 bucks to get two plex into the game as an item so someone could actually buy it.

    2. No one knows the percentage of Alt accounts in game...

    3. I wouldn't call 350k niche when the game has more subscribers than eq2, lotro, war, sto, CO, CoH,  AoC.... fuck probably more than aion in NA/euro also and all those games arent considered "niche".

    4. Your discounting the many, many people that try the game, like it, respect it but decide ultimately to play something else and the people that are unsubbed atm waiting for the next xpac (like myself). All those people are EvEs target playerbase (which is quite a few mofos lol).
