We're playing games where we're slaying dragons, riding sparklie pegusus-like mounts through the sky, and conjuring mana bisuits out of thin air and you guys are thinkiing dual wielding crossbows is....oh so silly??

    Excuse me while I ....

    ROFLMAO.

Fantasy does all sorts of stuff that is completely unbelievable, but good fantasy has a grounding in reality to make the unbelievable parts acceptable to the audience.

For example Sir Gawain and the Green Knight: no one would believe that some guy was turned into a Green Man using fairy magic, but the poem uses realistic descriptions of weapons and hunting to help the audience accept the fantastical parts and to groud the the poem in reality.

Diablo III has a demon hunter class that uses essentially magical crossbows that can be dual wielded. There is no grounding in reality there. Crossbows are a mechanical construct meant to be deadlier and better than a bow, so why strip that away from it and make it into something not at all close to reality?

It's a freaken GAME! Get over it! Holy crap since when has the gaming community been sooooo conscious about how things seem impractical. If it is fun and makes me enjoy the game I could care less! DANG!

    You'd probably complain about it.

To a lot of people, this cinematic sucked.  That's a simple fact.  Yelling at people over it isn't going to change that fact and it certainly isn't going to help you understand why it bothered people.

I'd play this class if they had dual pistols, like the kind during the Pirate era(or in the Fable series). I don't like crossbows.

Oh look it is Sylvannas Windrunner with crossbows. I wonder where they came up with that idea. I don't like WoW in my Diablo. Epic fail Blizzard.

I think it is clearly a case of Blizzard playing to their WoW fanbase with the last class choice rather than trying to have something interesting in their game . The Windrunner point is a fair one, the artwork looks adapted and rehashed. The dual wielding of crossbows is an implausible one to many fantasy RPGers, sorry Blizz Demon hunter is just plain silly as is.

wait WAIT! Now we are judging a game by it's cinematic?!  That is even worse! If people judge games by their videos or cinematic then damn people are stupid these days. The only logical explanation for bashing a game is for it's actual in gameplay mechanics. Complaining about a game because it's cinematic suck or cause it has some art ideas from an other game (especially one that is made by the same company)is plain stupid.  NO wonder the mmo industry is screwed up. We got sooo many people like you in it!

Let me give an example... People go for games that have an AWESOME CG cinematic and in the end the game sucks. Mean while the games the produce poor cinematic videos do poorly yet they have an AWESOME game.  This is the problem with this industry people go for whatever catches their eye which is usually just eye candy and not the actual game aka AIon, AOC, FFXIV etc...

We're not judging a game by the cinematic.  Read some of the thread.

We're saying the cinematic sucks on a number of levels and doesn't make us get into the game AT ALL.  In other words, it completely fails at its purpose for us.

Well you are still judging the game by it's cinematic. By saying "doesn't make us get into the game AT ALL" is pretty much saying this game will fail and it is stupid. Can you see how I am reading that?

Mmm...no it doesn't. Saying you don't like a cinematic is not the same as saying you don't like the game. What they're saying is, the cinematic was meant to hype, and it fell short. That has nothing to do with the stupidity or potential failure of the game itself. I'm not sure how your logic decided that, but it is wrong.

On that note, I think the cinematic is quite nice. I'm not sure what the complaint is, unless you guys mean the subject of the cinematic. Then I guess I could understand where the animosity is coming from, but the cinematic itself is very polished if only from a technical standpoint.

I feel the same way, keep the WoW out of Diablo. However, they stole alot of things FROM Diablo and put them in WoW. Skills like Whirlwind(Barbarian) and class names like Paladin. They just put it all in the mix and use it for whatever. Nothing we can do sadly.

Bleh , the real Diablo 3 is coming out with TorchLight 2 , spring 2011. With the original team of D1 and D2. When I heard D3 was created with the same team as WoW it left me with a sour taste in my mouth. I always respected Blizzard East (Back in the day) and will be supporting the TorchLight series rather then D3. If "Diablo 3" had a different name , I would probably try it , but since Blizzard's WoW team seem arrogant enough to replace the work of the original Diablo team and actually doing better doesn't fit to well with me. Good luck to Blizzard though with D3 , it will be a good fight to see unfold between D3 and TL2.  WoW team vs Original D team.

WOW i cant believe we are debating whether are not dual crossbows are realistic enough to put in Diablo 3, OMG your right, we should not have duel crossbows because there is no way you could "reload" them in REAL life fast enough, But lets see. Its ok to have all kinds of Magic spells and bring the dead back to life, because, you know, that's all real stuff we do everyday in the real world.   You people are just plain dumb ass's IT'S A FANTASY BASED GAME!! ITS NOT MEANT TO BE REAL!!  LETS JUST SAY SHE'S USING "MAGIC" TO RELOAD THE BOW'S OK!!!

It's actually the look of the character when dual wielding the crossbows, it just look unwieldy and for want of a better word gawky...I don't think I would play the Demon Hunter Class at launch, it looks too much like a last minute crowd pleaser from Blizz, and very unsatisfactory to serious RPG gamers like myself.

As for the point about fantasy, well, it is a tad more complex than that as any top fantasy author will tell you. If you write something too fantastical it just throws the reader and they lose interest in your book. It has to have some grounding in our expectations. Magic using beings have been in human legend since the dawn of time, and actually there is some consistency in them, they have limits, and the best fantasy writers understand this concept. Similarly, we all know a powerful crossbow requires two hands, to see them dual wielded kills the game immersion for many, and well, just looks plain silly I think.

Everything you say is true but the idea that people are hating on this class because the magic isn't congruent with fable or legend, at least in this case, seems silly.

It's Diablo 3. It's a game. It has gaming conventions and is practically an arcade game.

As a matter of fact I think of the diablo series as an Arcade game. Loads of fun but not anything where a scrutinizing eye for for that type of detail is even required.

If their intention is to attract the WoW fans then using that model is key I suppose then I think their Diablo III sales will sky rocket even more than if only the former fans of Diablo II buy it. I'd say that is exactly what Blizzard wants. So the advertisement does exactly what they want.

    Pretty good observation.

D3 will be a welcome addition for the average Wow player (more so than SC2 PvP click fest gaming).

By the time D3 will have launched, numurous new MMORPG's will have passed the review and Wow fans will just continue play WOW and a simpler hack' n slash game from the Blizzard stable is a welcome addition to the room.

    Some facts:

    - At BlizzCon, Blizzard promised to hand out 5% Beta keys for BlizzCon visitors; meaning the game is on schedule to be released in 2011. Probably late summer, as it isn't an mmorpg, so not launching against winter time mmorpg cata players.

    - The Demon Hunter cinematic was made ... with the SC2 engine... Some engine ... Yep: confirmed.

    -  Diablo 3 will have a hard mode option ... you die : "the end". Someone asked if that would be true for PvP too. After 6 seconds of waiting, the lead designer smiled and said: yes.

    - Pve and Pvp is striclty seperated though. No pvp if you don't want it.

The only reservation I have is about the false 2D/3D setting. I think it could hurt its success, but as it doesn't depend on paid subscriptions, perhaps it succeeds as a simple hack/slash game with a challenge to add levels and power.

Clearly a neglected market in the MMO range.

1 World of DiabloCraft III is not mmorpg game. I wonder for just what reasons mmorpg.com is so intent on promoting it, hmmm...?

    2. the character designs in trailer....ughhh, where's my dark fantasy seetting? did I somehow watch the wrong trailer and instead saw something from wow:cataclysm? I'm sorry buf this is not diablo i knew(not surprising considering there's none from original diablo authors working on this, since most of them have been fired).

     3. This is direct rip off of Torchlight's vanquisher Class

    4.  This only increases my anticipation for Torchlight II and Torchlight MMORPG.

I think you are missing the point, I don't hate the game and will play it probably. I just will not bother with one of the classes because I don't like where Blizz have gone with it, and in fact think it is just a crowd pleaser for the WoW crowd on Battle net.

Should also point out to you that a crossbow fires quarrels or bolts and not arrows, I guess you have to sigh at the educational system of today judging by what people post here.

Anyway, next year there is the excellent looking Dungeon Siege 3  coming, and I guess Torchlight 2, so I guess if Diablo 3 isn't anything special there will be other choices in this genre for 2011.

See that part that says "ala Amazon?" That means he was referring to the Amazon class from Diablo 2. The Amazon class in Diablo 2 used ARROWS.

Anyway, next year there is the excellent looking Dungeon Siege 3  coming, and I guess Torchlight 2, so I guess if Diablo 3 isn't anything special there will be other choices in this genre for 2011.

Careful now, fanboys hate when they figure out you actually have your own thoughts and a brain. Then you become a troll or a hater.

And if it wasn't fun and didn't make you enjoy the game?

    You'd probably complain about it.

To a lot of people, this cinematic sucked.  That's a simple fact.  Yelling at people over it isn't going to change that fact and it certainly isn't going to help you understand why it bothered people.

From a technical standpoint I thought the cimematic wasn't very good at all. It looks blurry, cell shaded like a cartoon, and had none of the realism the Diablo II cinematics had.

Actually, I think the Diablo II cinematics look way better than this one. Seems like Blizz put all their effort into the new WolW cinematic and skimped on this one.

I mean how do you explain turning a single arrow into a wide spread multi shot, ala Amazon character from D2 or carrying an endless supply of traps on your person, Assassin, also from D2...

See that part that says "ala Amazon?" That means he was referring to the Amazon class from Diablo 2. The Amazon class in Diablo 2 used ARROWS.

I think I was just objecting to the comparison between arrows and quarrels, completely different projectiles fired from completely different weapons, being used to justify the Demon Hunter class, it is a weak one in my opinion. It is just flakey logic, like comparing an axe wielding player character with a sword wielding player character.

I guess I would also like to know if Blizz have a hamburger university onsite? Anyone help me out here???

And then we have games where bows ranged weaponry have unlimited ammo.

Realistic? No, not really, but cool as all get out.  I watched the trailer and was surprised. I thought that was a mace in her pocket.  And then she pulled those babies out and I was like, holy %#$!

If D3 ends up being as fun and addictive as D2 or D1 - why get panties tied in a bunch over "realism" or "suspension of disbelief"?

Believe it or not, arrows and quarrels are both types of ammo that do not exist in unlimited supply in real life. His comparison is completely valid and in no way shows his lack of education. It is not ridiculous or stupid in any way to compare the two ideas.

Adding a person's inability to admit when they are wrong to a lack of reading comprehension really makes me wonder about more than just a persons education, it makes me wonder about their character as well.
