i logged on MO todoy just to so how things are shaping up since my sub ends in a few days.
i can only shake my head. from horrible desync, to ll sort of buggs old and new just had me log off within half an hour. i'v played this game casually for months now and i'v never seen this much desync post release. sure the new sun rays and moving trees are nice but so many buggs keep coming out every time they do a patch it's discouraging. i really don't know if they have what it takes ot make a decent game.
on top of that absolutely any thread on the official forums that refers to any sort of bug or even just detrimenta to their new Epic patch is instantly deleted by the moderators. i made a few posts trying to see if i was the only one getting such a crazy desync and every single post was deleted with in minutes. trying to post in MO official forums has become almost pointless since any sort of negative remark or mention of any bug new or old is promptly deleted. it truly feels like forum gestapo.
as i sed, i can only shake my head. i really hope they manage to last long enogh for this game to be at least playable and enjoyable but i wont be paying their way to get there. i still belive this game a huge potential but SV just doesnt seem to know how to tell it's head from it's ass when it comes to making a video game.
i will definately check back on this game but my hope has been quickly dispersing after this less then impressive Epic patch.
Comments
Some of us have been saying this for months... about the game.. but also about the company. They have overtly censored negative comments since release, but everytime someone suggested they were doing so, other people would jump in to defend the company by linking the random negative post that slipped through. Most of those people have themselves stopped playing.
All time classic MY NEW FAVORITE POST! (Keep laying those bricks)

It's merely a symptom of a larger disease thats eating SV's efforts from the inside. Beta players will remember "guild favoritism" where a certain fanboy guild was handed out Keep and house deeds like they were cookies; what most Beta players won't remember and is something thats immediately removed from the forums is WHY.
At the time when I joined the program, out of 8 Support members 5 of them was from that guild. When they lost their keep spot on release, it was very entertaining watching them logging in one by one and saying that they're "here to speak for X guild". Naturally, after a lot of explaining and crayon-painting to the then-Lead GM why this was bad and completely unprofessional, they were removed.
It was extremely interesting to read the texts from the Community Manager how Henrik was brought into the game to have a conference meeting with the leader of said guild, and to "inspect the circumstances" of the Keep construction. Can you imagine the professional level of a CEO who shows up in-game with 2 GM's in tow immediately telling ~200 people out of the blue that their keep might be "rolled back" and how they'll be refunded? Without even checking what's going on?
After the support spies were removed, the political situation in-game rapidly changed. Peace treaties were begged for and signed; mainly because said-guild was non existent in game, their officer forums open to me for reading and entertainment since they were so nice to take in a batch of pro-PvP and "VERY disgruntled" players from my guild on release. Once they served their purpose, that particular intel operation was closed and their "completely neutral" guild was disbanded.
But I digress; since I left I've noticed three things - first, a known Moderator from said-guild is now the Lead Moderator. Second, they're on the "war path" which fits their previous behavior when they had the Support team well infiltrated. Third, 13's keep chest was illegally pilfered while said guild was sieging them and nobody was banned. This indirectly caused SV loss of the biggest "factor" guild in the game since 13 disbanded since then.
Once I asked the current Lead GM to explain to me why we couldn't ban a certain individual on who we had hours of Fraps of speedhacking and suspicious flying/warping. The answer was "you know what guild he's in". When I asked what does it matter who's in what guild, we should be banning them all; he told me it's a waste of time because you don't ban people from the guild Henrik's in.
I drew my own conclusions from that, so should everybody else. The censorship doesn't stop at the forums, and what I roughly explained is merely the tip of the iceberg in MO.
Well I suppose if people are making pointless threads about bugs and glitches in say the General Discussion forum it's bound to be deleted.
If they don't have a Bug / Glitch sub forum, it really shouldn't be talked about anywhere on the forums.
Oh they do have a bug forum. But then the only people who would see their whining would be the support team and they just can't have that, can they?
What is especially disgusting is when you have players like this Pager guy (http://www.mortalonline.com/forums/members/pager.html) who just bought the game (judging by the forum date) posting their discontent with the game with a non-trolling post; and getting banned. He posted a big topic called Epic Fail, here's just a short excerpt:
Since you don't believe I purchased the game fanboys I will post in the members only section so you don't get distracted from the issue. Now that you know I played it let me give you a newcomers experience, so you get a understanding of how other newcomers will feel if this game doesnt stop the hype on a unfinished game. Go back to Beta or risk losing any potential new players:
He goes on to describe the multitude of problems a newcomer will face coming to MO. As a tester since Block B, his review is well balanced. He posted it at 21:05, by 21:57 he was already banned. Is that how Starvault deals with constructive criticism now a days?
Another example, the guy who originally leaked and posted the post from my guild's forum - Ratigan - who is also an ex-guildie, got his account from the game permabanned supposedly by the "anti-cheat system". No logs of this "anti-cheat system" exist though, so the poor sod was basically forced to pay another account or stop playing and go away.
There's countless more examples (me being another one, I never got a reason for being permabanned from the forums when I got kicked from the GM team), but ultimately it boils down to the fact that SV obviously has no faith in their own game anymore. Censorship is at it's peak since the NDA in Closed Beta and surpassing it easily, posts that are anything but "this game is awesome!" are deleted or modded, with people being banned left and right.
The good ship Starvault seems to be sinking, rapidly.
Dont we come to MMORPG.com to openly discuss games? If a game's riddled with bugs Id like to find out before buying. Would you prefer people remain silent and just brush it under the rug?
What "support team" are you referring to?
I win!!! LOL@U
I have said, and maintain until now, that there is no anti cheat system in MO, at all. All the cheat technologies work on a similar method, and while I don't have the expertise to defeat them, I do have enough knowledge to use a process tracker and debugger to watch memory access points. MO doesn't try to detect any third party 'hacks', and it was simply shown by injecting a harmless DLL into MO as it ran.
If players are being led to believe that there is *any* anti hack or cheat technology, they are being 100% lied to. While SV will maintain it to be the truth, I can prove it isn't there, and the only answer they have in return is "we can't tell you our cheat detection methods". Now for a company who still can't make AI mobs run away from you, or write their own launcher/patcher and had to get it done from a 'fan', do you honestly believe they can make anti-cheat technology on their own? It's not a trolling question, it's a simple and logical one.
Actually Hercules you are incorrect, when I was a GM there was an "anti-cheat system" of sorts which was an in-game hack flag list, that flagged people for gravity hacks, speed hacks, lag hacks, stat hacks, etc.
Unfortunately as everything SV does it was extremely buggy, and we were told to basically ignore everything that wasn't a gravity hack because every other detection was inaccurate. People were getting flagged for speed hacks while they were chopping wood, lag hacks while riding on a horse, I even found my own character's name on the list for speed hacking when I was riding to pick up weapons from Meduli.
What they could detect server-side I wouldn't know, but I imagine it wasn't really functioning considering its SV's modus operanti and the events from late-Beta (big pot dupes) to Release (30 keep deeds, countless gold, 640k rubars, Steel, etc) and after Release (molva & bullhorse tickets).
Currently everyone seems happy that they're removing duped tickets, but there's no sign of any punishment for the dupers; not even a slap on the wrist. Another SV modus operanti, keep all subs at all cost.
they are not moving threads to the "buggs and glitches" section, they are deleteing it all.
even threads that mention low population, any detrimental comment about the Epic patch not delivering, any sort of complaint is pretty much instantly deleted. so basicly you are supposed to pay for a broken game and not dare complain about it.
i'v seen at least 10 threads deleted in the last 2 days.
If this is something done server side, there's no way to detect it from my point of view. However, when you "flag" a player, it was something you entered in, correct?
I'm talking about client-side detection of which there is none. They can't "detect" hacks on the client, but if there's something on the server side that says "hey, your Z value shouldn't be 500!" then that's something quite different. Henrik has made it clear that they have anti-cheat methods in place, and if you're telling me that all they have is a flagging system that GMs have to input the flag, basically I'm still right
No, the hack flag list was the client-side detection. I'm just saying it was (and from what I hear) so broken and unreliable that you would just flick through pages and pages of speedhacks and laghack flags and ignore them all because they were "unreliable".
Well, it certainly didn't work from my POV, perhaps something on the server caused a trigger but there was nothing that 'spyed' into other processes, which is how a lot of anti-cheats work. Punkbuster and gameguard do.
