I was really hoping they'd move away from the roaring dragon login idea. After two years of roaring Lich King undead frost dragon, I have no interest in hearing roaring Cataclysm fiery netherworld dragon. It's annoying. Wish they'd allow us to choose which login screen is displayed.
Anyone else notice in the video that the login fields don't even show up until after he roars? Does this mean we won't even be able to skip it by typing quickly? Argh!
I agree 100% I was hoping the log in screen would consist of a goblin and worgen female dancing to cheap 80's porn music Damn it blizzard! You just lost my $50 plus $15 a month until you correct this game breaking issue!

That sounds ridiculously close to suggesting there should be some flexibility in the game, which we know took another hit with the 401 patch... being able to choose from multiple screens would simply be too confusing and hard.
On the other hand, the roaring dragon is annoying - being able to select from different login screens might be pretty damn nifty.
Do you play this game and if so why? As much as you are on here bitching about everything Blizzard does I find it hard to believe you have actually played it enough to know what the hell yorur talking about.
Why am I playing right now? Resubbed for a month to see how bad the 401 changes were.
Played Vanilla for 14 months. Crusade for 13 months. Lich King for 6 months (not counting this month since I just started again last Thursday after cancelling again in June).
I only have four 80s - spend a lot of time in BGs as opposed to suffering alt-itis. This weekend I took my Warrior from 47 to 62.
For those 80s:
Warlock - 93 days, 20 hours of /played.
Shaman - 37 days, 22 hours of /played.
Paladin - 27 days, 2 hours of /played.
Death Knight - 11 days, 3 hours of /played.
The Warrior is currently sporting 5 days, 15 hours of /played.
I enjoyed Vanilla. Crusade saw me breaking the level 40 deletion I had been going through previously (lol, still do to an extent - where I normally delete an alt in the 30-40 range) to level the Shammy and Pally from 1-70 after getting the Lock to 70. Lich King saw almost no play because it took no time to get those three characters from 70-80 and then the DK from 55-80. I started the Warrior and then figured nah...not worth it.
So do I complain about the direction that Blizzard has taken with WoW? Yes, I do. Do I do it without actually playing the game? Nope. I've been back for each expansion. I'm there with this major patch.
As to the login screen...yep, the annoying sound was fresh in my mind as somebody posted this... but thanks for trying and showing you care so much.
I just find it odd that you post on every WOW thread about how terrible the game is and yet continue to play. Unless you have come to the conclusion that if you want to play an MMO there is no other choice available at this time. It seems you feel the game has been continually dumbed down since vanilla (some of your points I do agree with) however here you are, resubbing. I left WOW for right at a year, played some other P2P MMO's and my finding was that they are a good diversion during the cooling off time before coming back to WOW. Believe me I understand if your burnt out on the game as like I said ive been there myself but taking a break helped me rediscover just how well Blizzzard delivers compared to the alternatives. As for the OP, yes its just a log in screen and yet look at all the WOW haters (not you Dancer) making sure everyone knows it sucks. Its amazing how much power this game has over even those who do not play.
WOW isnt great because it has 12 million players. WOW has 12 million players because its great.
If I had a dime for every time I had to say what I'm about to say....I'd have a nice little nest egg.
This login screen "situation" is yet ANOTHER thing that Blizzard could learn from SoE and EQ2. For all the shit SoE has done, one thing they're DEFINITELY not short on in EQ2....is giving players OPTIONS. I have never felt I lacked options with EQ2. Options with the native UI...being able to move it all around and resize it and do pretty much anything WITHOUT having to use a mod, options with sound, options with pretty much EVERYTHING. EQ2 actually has an OPTION....I shit you not....of turning the sound OFF on the login screen. And I always had mine turned off. Personally, I don't particularly care for a bunch of fanfare just because I'm logging into a game.
I just want to login. I don't need a fuckin' celebration with bells and whistles and dragon roars, thank you very much. Now....how HARD would it really BE to give players more OPTIONS with this?
Options are the thing that WoW lacks THE most, in my opinion. And rather than giving the players MORE options....they seem to give them less and less the more the game progresses.
My "homemade fix" for Blizzard login screens (since WotLK) has been to turn the in game volume completely down before I log out.....then just turn it back up when I log in. SHOULD one have to DO this to avoid screechy login screens? No. However, it appears that adding a "slient login" option to the game options....may just be making things too difficult.
Note: I am one of the "I'm not playing Cataclysm" players. But I did pay for a one month renewal of my sub to go back and respec all of my characters, because I have OCD, and I cannot STAND the thought of them just sitting there all screwed up and with no talents. I know...I know....that SOUNDS insane (it probably is) and that's why I'm on medication, I guess. LOL But I still count myself among the number of "I'm not playing Cataclysm" people, because I am waiting for a couple of other games that will make playing anything but THEM....unaffordable in both time and money. So unless Blizzard pulls a free to play on us (unlikely).....I'm only visiting for the month.
Mind you, I have REPEATEDLY said here on the forums that I would "never" return to WoW, and yet....I find myself having been compelled to go FIX my characters as though they were little living breathing extensions of myself, sitting feeling naked without talents. I couldn't deal with that image in my mind, so....fixed they are.
I think WoW fucks with the minds of the mentally ill....but I won't go into that, since it's "off topic." LMAO
Yes options are great, when they are good options. I hear EQ2 did so well with theirs that they now have a F2P option as well. Strange how those who hate WOW feel the need to bitch about the login screen that they never have to see......or do they?
I see it every day...and I'm sick of it; specifically the noise. I shouldn't have to mute my system in order to login

WoW is one of the three P2P games in my rotation (WoW, CoX, and EVE). I would not have a rotation if any of the games met all my needs. Heck, it is my sig - if CCP had done WoW or Blizzard included some concepts from EVE...for the most part, that would be the game I would play. Add in some of the customization from CoX (making it more meaningful than it is in CoX, because that is one of my gripes about it in CoX), and you would probably have the game I would play until I die.
I come back to WoW the month before each expansion if I have been away, trying not to look like a total feeb when the expansion does come out. Hoping for something more. I really did not feel the negativity I did toward WoW until Lich King.
When they first talked about the features of Cataclysm, I was actually hyped. But we are getting Cataclysm Lite, and I'm not hyped.
Azeroth will become busy again outside of the cities as players take in the redone lands with another alt. Guess what though, at that 58-60 range - they are going to be heading to...Outlands. My Warrior is 65 now, and if I want to see another player - I have to queue for a RD - because there's nobody out there, bah. On one hand, it sure does make it faster to level since there is no competition nor wait for any of the quest requirements. But there will be little doubt that at 68 everybody will be heading for Northrend as quick as possible...the early content there is easier than same level content in Outlands, meaning you will level faster (same as leaving Azeroth at 58, 58-60 is faster in the Outlands than on Azeroth).
I know this is beyond the scope of a login screen, but is the login screen not part of the scope of the game's direction?
I miss the MMORPG genre. Will a developer ever make one again?
It is a login screen..... How can this even.... Really it is just a login screen? Is there something important I'm unable to grasp her or is this a news article about a login screen...

Apparently, but the sad part is... even a discussion about a log in screen being un-news worthy has turned into........ "Pssh your just a WoW hater" and other such drivel lol.

Lol seriously, even if the topic was on a new LOTRO log in screen I would think it odd and un-news worthy.
