Okay, so I am a long time WoW player who was recently told by a friend to try City of Heroes. I am currently downloading the client and have signed up for the trial. So here is what im asking. In WoW you buy Classic and then you can play with the monthly fee, and then when you buy expansions, it modifies it instead of making a new game to play. And every player has the same world to play in and there are not seperate campaigns. Is this the case in CoH? also where do I buy gametime? I have been looking over the shop and there is CoH, CoH Good Versus Evil, Going Rogue expansion, and then the bundle. I want to just buy the basic game, to I buy CoH or CoH Good Versus Evil? Thank You

City of Villains was the first expansion, it added new areas & new 'classes' - the Good vs Evil pack includes City of Heroes and City Of Villains for the same price as the CoH-only pack, so out of the two, get that one. You'll still have a big patching job to do though as that's getting on a bit.
In WoW terms, you can roughly think of Heroes and Villains as being to two main continents of Azeroth; same world with content for each faction, some shared content.
The newest version 'Going Rogue: Complete Collection' will have little to patch and as well as the old Hero & Villain zones has whole new 1-20 starting areas, plus the ability to turn Villains into Heroes and vice versa.
Personally I'd go for that one - if only to save patching - but it does cost more.
I highly recommend buying Going Rogue Complete Collection. By far the best value, and you get the whole game. Can be had on Amazon for as little as $24.
While City of Villains was the first expansion, it is now considered part of the base game. So just buying an old CoH box will also give you CoV content. Many of the different boxes you could buy all have the same basic game content, but attached to the specific CD-key are various extras. For instance, I think it is the Architect Edition that gives you a choice of the Magic or Cyborg bonus packs: extra costume options, emotes, and a bonus power.
Good vs Evil Edition.
If you like the trial, go that route and comfort yourself in the knowledge that you will likely buy at least a few of the add-ons and Going Rogue at some point.
I hope you have fun as it's an awesome game and tends to have a really good community.
It's one of the few games,I can think of, that can boast that every character is truly the individual players creation.
Buy going rogue complete edition , and then start as heros side , go visit atlas park , for the trade chat channels .
IF you think its boring then switch to going rogue preatorie , and those story arcs will get you involved .
Its more all to your play style , you are not limited to do quest ,if you like to grind then grind .
Anyway going rogue complete edition gives you 30 day game time , the rest of the game time are subscription based , or you can buy CoX games really cheap nowadays in stores dumbbin .
So for 1 euro and 50 cent i could have gotten a complete good versus evil and 30 days free .
For anyone else who finds this thread, let's make it simple:
There's no reason to get anything other than Going Rogue edition.
Not only does it include everything that came before, Going Rogue was designed to be a new introduction experience. So it's the sort of thing you want from day 1, not a bonus pack to add later.

I want to amend Amarsir's statement as such:
"There's no reason to START with anything other than Going Rogue Edition."
I say start because Going Rogue gives you access to all of the content. BUT, the older game package codes still work. So, after getting Going Rogue, you can pick up the following all on the cheap (19.99 or less):
Good vs Evil edition -- 1 month subtime (14.99 value) plus 2 handy powers and costumes
The Mac Edition -- 1 month subtime (14.99 value) plus 1 handy power and valkyrie costume
The Architect edition -- 1 month subtime (14.99 value) plus code to choose for free either the cyborg pack or the magic pack (9.99 value)
COH collector's edition -- 1 month subtime (14.99 value) plus power and cape (I've found this for 5.99 in odd lots)
COV Collector's edition -- 1 month subtime plus 2 costume parts.
The pre-orders are also out there, but you get those perks as veteran rewards too.
So, to summarize, if you're going to get a version, the best is likely to be Going Rogue and, if you like it, snag the others to add on game time and goodies, likely at a better deal than just buying straight subtime ( ' :
You're right. My implication was for a first purchase but your observation is entirely correct.
